  • good lord! how much did you get at harvest, and how long did it take you to pick them?

  • Man you are lucky to have a crop like that!! Wow! I know so many people that didn't get anything like that and they had cultivated plots with all of the trimmings! What is the variety?

  • Wow! So you can grow hops horizontaly?

  • thats really awesome! how do i start growing hops?

  • What a beautiful "crop" of hops. Well done indeed!

  • You are my hero. I think I saw a picture of you chilling with the hops on the real beer forum about growing indoors

  • Ah, I don't think it was me....never grew hops indoors before:)

    Nothing better than fresh hops....

  • can I grow hops in florida?

  • hell yeah!

  • how tall did you get those its hard for me to see how you trained them. im thinking of growing this year

  • The "bines" get a little over 20ft long. I run the twine where I want the hops to grow and everyday I may have to wrap the bine around the wine. If you grow them vertical, you won't have to touch them-they follow the sun, so train them clockwise up the twine(looking down on the plant). Definately grow them, I have so much fun with it. I have 15 hills right now and will grow to about 24 this spring with more varieties. When its hot, KEEP THE SOIL DAMP.

  • The hops that ate St Paul!

I'd love to hear what variety these are. I will be planting some in a zone 4 area in New England, and am worried about getting 120 frost-free days.

  • Is the zone area implying the irrigation usage? Frost will push the plant back but I know some guys who planted them on the east coast and had a good turnout toward the end of the season. The variety shown was a mix of Willamette, Cascade, Chinook, and Chelan. I plan on adding Galenas plus others to the cluster this spring. You can never have enough hops, especially now with the shortage. I definately cuts down on the cost of homebrewing.

  • The USDA zone relates to hardiness. Zone 4 means that temperatures get as low as 20 degrees f. below zero.

Since hops die back to the ground, I guess it is a matter of mulching heavily and hoping for the best.

  • Our winters get into the negatives for about a week long then it's the single digits/low 20's for the remainder of the winter-hops take alot and keep on growing. One thing to remember that might help, hops are a weed and very hard to get rid of. Hope this helps.

  • Nice plant.

  • Jealous...that's awsome!

  • NICE! You've got quite a bit there. We're just starting ours.

  • You'll have a blast with them. I call them a hobby but my girlfriend calls it my "addiction".
