I saw this when I was in school. Each and every of my friends had one. I never did. And now I must be the only one who still collects Transformer toys. Damn... I really would like one now!!!!
The real story (Since I wrote this) What you know today as Transformers were introduced as Diachron in a TV ad almost identical to this a year earlier. That commercial aired for 3 weeks and emptied stores. Hasbro then licensed the toys for $30,000,000 and reintroduced the brand as Transformers. Because Diachron aired only 3 weeks, I sold client the idea of re-doing it for Kronoform. It worked. The only table top ads ever done for toys..twice. Low budget. Big results. Wow I use to have this watch, it was a red one though. This is a funny commercial, he puts it on its head, lays it flat, or whatever and all the sudden its suppose to be something else but a robot.
This is awesome. I don't remember the commercial but my brother and I had these when we were kids. His was silver and mine gold. I still have mine in a drawer somewhere. It had a little post coming out of its back and you pinched together buttons on the watchband to make it detach. It was very bulky on the wrist and probably the only thing geekier than the infamous calculator watch. The problem was after many hours of playing with it the joints became so loose that it was no longer poseable.
heh, heh, it's a real stretch in this ad to show more versatility than 'just the robot' this is friggin awesome, god bless you youtube and the poster for presenting this classic ad!!

Kronoform is the only watch that can keep you from getting caught up in the Crossfire.

@aavallone Huh? So it's all good to put recycled junk on the market for kids to play with that couldn't afford actual Transformers? Shut em down!

This is how Takara's marketing approach in the USA.
Why can't they do the similar ads as they do in Japan? but making them american-style ad
