I love it better when the romanians use romanian folk music in their routines, I know they do it to captivate the american audience, but that kind of music in my opinion, is not the best for floor x. Cristina was a great tumbler but she was undescored many times.

You can't help but like Bart. I'm sure one of the reasons Nadia married him was that he wasn't a pig like most American men, particularly athletes. He and Kathy are a great commentating team.

Agreed. I miss them. They were and are so knowledgeable about the sport and not so biased towards the Americans. They truly appreciate great gymnastics wherever it happens, and they teach their spectators how to watch the sport. I love the intro to the broadcast. I hope to follow in their footsteps someday. Bring some integrity back to gymnastics commentary.

the soviet union broke up after worlds I think - they competed together at Barcelona as the "unified team" then after that (1993 onwards) as separate countries

yea the belin wall is in germany and it came down in 89 uniting east and west germany..... and the soviet girls competed for the last time at the 92 olympics as "the unified team"

I think the Berlin wall is in Germay duh! I just thought it significantly meant that the Soviet Union was dismantled from that moment, but obviously not. I took some years to seperate the Union into nations

Bontas' music was "Journey Through America (Star Spangled Banner, Oh Susannah, Yankee Doodle)" according to Gymnstands website.

This comp also first got me addicted to gymnastics, I was 11 and my sister and I knew all the UK commentary words by heart since we watched it so often!!!! (on kim zmeskal's 2nd? tumble - "what a combination and the audience appreciate it..." LOL very funny to remember. Thanks for posting!

She was training a double front back then but never got it ready. She later used an underswing-front somersault with a half twist.

I totally agree. She was a good gymnast but it was ridiculous how high she scored in comparison with other gymnasts, specially the soviets.

This was the first gymnastics meet that I watched that made me HOOKED. I fell in love with Zmeskal and that was the end of that. This competition was one of the highlights of gymnastics of ALL TIMES. LOVE IT ;)

those were the heyday of gymnastics... the gymnasts now seem so generic... plus the scoring system is so difficult to understand now...

I just would really like to say that you have provided all of us with some really top notch gymnastics videos. The 91 worlds was actually the very FIRST gymnastics competition that I watched. I had heard of names such as Silivas, Shoushounova and Dobre but I was too young to watch them so your 87 worlds/88 olympics coverage really helped. I lost my 91 worlds tape so thank you so much for posting this.
