  • This stuff seems real consistent. But I have to bet its expensive..

  • Sorry but you have it backwards. A lighter round tends to penetrate farther than a heavier round does. They travel faster, up to a few hundred feet per second. Heavier carries more energy, but still doesn't penetrate as deeply. Obviously this is based on the same rounds, same type of loads.

  • What´s your opinion about .40 First Defense Ammo? I carry this ammunition in my Glock 22. Thanks from Argentina

  • @2ufernando2u We tested a few calibers of First Defense solid copper rounds. Some did ok, others did not open properly.

  • I can see the bottle cap a 0:48

  • From your experience, would you carry the 165gr HST or the 180 HST?

  • @jpap967 Either one would work great. The 180 Gr. version will penetrate more in general. The HST design is excellent in either case.

  • which one is better...135 gr, 155 gr, 165 gr, or 180 gr...somebody help thanks.

  • @stangGTKKK187 In general, heavier rounds penetrate deeper than lighter rounds. All four weights in HST will likely get the job done, but the consensus is to go heavy for penetration to reach vitals.

  • Thanks so much for your feedback...yes both boxes are exactly the same (all

numbers match) so maybe its like you said!!!

  • Could you PLEASE help with this....I recently purchased 2 boxes of Federal

.45 230 gr fmj rn from Walmart. When I got home, I noticed that the primers on

one of the boxes were much smaller in diameter than the other box...excuse my

being naive on this but I was wondering if this is NORMAL....thanx so much for

    your assistance.

  • @idfsense I did a little research and apparently most .45 ACP should be 'large' pistol primers but there is some loaded with 'small' pistol primers to comply with some EPA regulation (win NT clean ammo maybe?). If you reload the large ones seem to be the ones you want to keep as many reloaders tend to throw out brass with the small pockets. You may have just happened to get a box that was older and a newer one and the manufacturer swapped sizes. Are they the same brand?

  • those are the three bullets shot into the water shown at the end correct?

  • @Stimo3 Yes.

  • actualy a very pretty round but looks like the petals went back so far that it wusnt that wide of an expansion

  • @bobwatters- expansion tests rarely show widest expansion because usually the bullet continues to change shape as it moves through the media. rest assured that bullet was a lot wider at one point before the petals started to lay down. final expansion diameter means alomost nothing other than indicating that it expanded uniformly and completely (or didn't).

  • Great round, is what I load, but in a M&P. Another good media for using as a test is plumbers putty. ( kind of a pain to dig out, but somewhat easier to come by and cheaper than ballistic gel.

  • Dang after watching your videos of other calibers you can really notice how much more snap the .40 has.

  • @Letsmakeasamich Yes the .40 S&W round does have some snap to it compared to 9mm and .45 ACP.

  • N A S T Y !

    just bought 2 boxes........

  • Nice Reviews on all tests. I have both Gold Dots and HSTs in 155 gr. Anyone else notice that all things same (caliber and grain), that the HSTs have more explosive energy?

  • any noticeable difference between the 165 and 155 gr? I can get the 155 for $5.00 less at the gun shows i go to.

  • @acort10 Not enough to worry about. The classic looking box (155 Gr. HST) I tested came from a friend of mine that works for the INS. He says that is their issue ammo.

  • First time I've seen you use a Glock

  • @Infiniti350gt Yeah I don't care for the grip angle on them. This one is owned by a shooting buddy of mine.

  • Comment removed

  • Where can i find them in a nickle case instead of brass, only hst around here are in brass which is aggravating, care to share where u scored them in nickle? also would u say the 180's performed a tad better than the 165's?

  • @MrSigma211 I have never seen them loaded in brass. You might try ammunitiontogo or tds-us. I think either the 180's or the 165's would do just fine. The 180's would likely penetrate more, but both of them are excellent rounds.

  • that is one round not to be hit by.

  • the 155 grains hit like a freight train

  • I bought some of these today. Mine are in brass cases instead of nickel cases. They are factory loads from federal. Mine also came in a fairly plain white box too.

  • Yes at the end of the video, that is the recovered round after hitting water. The point of the test it to demonstrate the ammo's expansion after hitting a hydrostatic medium. While its not exactly comparable to flesh, it gives you some idea of how the round will perform.

  • i shot the g22 and it is supurb

  • I tested some of the 165 gr and 180's, but the 180's shot to POA in my G22 and expanded and penetrated more than the 165's. HST is in my opinion one of the greatest bullet's ever made into a round of ammunition. I have finally found a steady supplier for them, so that helps alot as well...

  • Steady suplier...? Care to share? Of course once you do it may not be a steady supplier any more.

  • Streichers usualy has them in stock for a fair price, but 9mm and .45 are hit and miss...

  • I carry the same ammo in my .40 Sig p229 for self defense. I trust my life with it.

  • that is excellent bullet performance thanks for you videos!!

  • damn i love hydrashocks...oh i so gotta get some Hydras for my baby(my Glock 23)....good vid

  • These are HST rounds, they are different than the older design of the hydra-shok. We tested both. The HST is a better design in my opinion.

  • Well I take that back, in .40 we only tested HST, in 9mm and .45 we tested both. :)

  • u got me there LOL :P....i noticed that cuz these dont have the plug inside the point.....but still extremely effective.....ill probably end up going with both

  • Yeah the box looks almost exactly the same as the hydra-shoks. I have been told it is cheaper to make the HST than the Hydra-Shok. Too bad they are so hard to find.

  • still like my 9's

  • aww man theres nothing wrong with a 9mil man fuck the haters

  • awsome! keep the 40. coming, good choice of gun,big glock fan. thanks for the vids.

  • great vid
