Don't think so. Syd found "IT". You may only find his way of raised consciousness in this way. Pot won't get you there, most likely, but it might do you well to write down all the lyrics of Shine on you crazy diamond and find your every definition to make certain of your views. Who knows what I am referring to as "IT"? My own definition of what I learned in this way.
SYD yes clever!he was a trippy guy wasn't he?I think drugs may have sent him crazy...I think he could have been influential in P F earlier (formative) 'Granchester Meadows' days-didnt he live in Cambridge??It was when R W said they decided to leave him behind and not pick him up in the van (for the Gig) cos he had been an embarrassment!Careful with that axe Eugene
I laugh at mainly stoner who say the Floyd were "BIG STONERS" Well Roger Waters never tried L.S.D., either has Nick Mason. Richard Wright didn't like the effects, and David Gilmour "tried it a couple of times but got bored with it real quick". They did smoke marajuana up until the mid 1970's, but NEVER before a gig. Rick did once before a Paris gig, "just a puff, it made me paranoid. I thought i was holding my finger on one note for 10 minutes....it didn't agree with me"
This video never offically confirmed that it is Syd's first trip, it was confirmed as "one of his earliest drug taking experiences". I am assuming it's L.S.D he's on. All members of Pink Floyd (Mason, Gilmour, Waters and Wright) have confirmed in interviews that they were not taking L.S.D. or any drugs aside from alcohol and the occassional joint, Sorry Stoners.....
By the way...The Pink Floyd Experience got its name from "The Band from Big Pink" which later became "The Band".....or from two albums in Syds collection, one by Pink Anderson and the other by Floyd Council. They dropp ed the Experience when supporting Hendrix....Syd was experiencing Bipolar Disorder BEFORE he took acid which promoted a pre-exisitng schizophrenic condition
Wow Man! If you take every 5th letter you get SOYA!!!! And Syd was a VEGAN when he didnt eat meat!!!!! Far out!!!!....... Lucy was a girl who went to school with Julian Lennon and DIDNT take acid...but hey, she died of rickets in the SAME YEAR as SYD!!!!!!!! Faaaaaarrrrr Ouuutttttaaaaa Space music man!
and anyone can loose their mind. i like to remember syd as a very intelligent man, and the influence he had on so man people and music. not as a drug victim.
@Pops1800 then another one a year later after the astronomy domine one where he was no longer in the band and wallowing in the background sadly while david gilmour played astronomy domine instead. i agree the acid had definetly influenced his mental condition, but not just that. syd barrett was a perfectionist, and very open minded, and analyitical of himself, combine his personality with the unmoderative use of such a strong mind alterating substance and the pressure of hike up the hill of fame
@Pops1800 haha im sorry bro. i was drunk when i made those comments and when i drink i can really take things out of proportion and take little comments too seriously, but who doesn't. anyways, i just respect the this video because its extremely hard to find footage of syd barrett. ive seen maybe two interviews of him, one of him performing astronomy domine i believe it was, then an interview of him after he was kicked out of the band
It amazes me how many druggies comment on Pink Floyd videos, I think honestly you don't have to be high on pot or acid to understand how amazing Pink is, the drugs weren't all that made Syd the crazy diamond.
call me prejudice, but i know good music when i hear it, i don't sit and criticize video footage of a founder of one of the greatest musical talants that will have ever existed in this universe.
@Pops1800 i could have a gay chimpanzee masturbating himself with a bananna in this video and still enjoy it because im more focused on the masterpiece that is this music. nothing even REMOTELY close to this song has been released lately that can even be COMPARED. it'd be a mockery.
@Pops1800 you're being irrevelant and thinking inside the box my friend, show a little respect to the soul purpose of this video. pink floyd isn't god but it's pretty close in musical perspective.
this song brings back so many memmories this song basicly saved my life i was so depresed in high school and i had every floyd album and when i listened to this song and hit a bowl of kind ganja all my probloms would go away. felt like i was looking back at myself like it was my song always reminded me to be positive even though so much bad shit was happening. i can say we ALL can relate to this song to this day it fills my heart mind and soul

i have a 4 cd set i bought off ebay like 10 years ago, its called "The Syd Barrett Archives" its all the early stuff from when it was The Pink Floyd. has a lot from ther bbc and UFO club along with interviews and never heard footage. Syd will live in our hearts FOREVER
Yep, Acid was a great thing! Helped! Sure makes you look like a normal productive member of an uptight real world. I think I could enjoy staring at a log for 13 hours. Wonderful clips here. And set to a somber masterpiece in honor of a tragedy we all benefited from and perhaps Syd did too. Of course to those who somehow can't understand it and think of it as a loss. Hmmmm. I am sorry for those immediate family members that had to watch Syd but I somehow believe things inside Syd were just fine
Love Pink Floyd. Love Syd's early stuff. But this video was a contrived, staged "TRIP" video. Sorry to burst all your bubbles folks. Yet this song will remain as a favorite to me and among all Floyd fans. A great piece of work. Peace.
This clip looks like Syd's view, that he is watching everything from "outside". too many bright colors, too many strange actions. Many sad things occured with Pink Floyd... Nevertheless, Pink Floyd lives.... Great music never dies...
I don't think that I would want to take another acid trip. That stuff can cause a person to go absolutley out of ones own mind. mind you all the trips Im had were good ones. mighty strange stuff.
@sputnik1 You are so right, this occurred to me today as I learned some truth of our birth and reincarnation cycles, they are playing us like the movie clash of the titans, except the stars are the titans, and we all play the parts on this earth for them, they made us as souls, and sent us to earth to play drama experience in the body, then we go back to them and integrate our memories so they can experience our life without having to incarnate themselves, well some do still incarnate themselves

i've got this thing on dvd, and there's two parts to it. the first part is the trip, and the second is of pink floyd outside emi offices in london when they're gonna sign the record deal. so it's probably at least an early trip :P
I feel a bit like him, only that I just smoked weed, but still. Such a beatiful song, they don't make them that way no more :( Really want to live in the sixties.
It is ashame about Syd but some people are more sensitive to things than others ie more sensitive to mental health problems. he just wanted to be left completely alone after a while . Thats geniuses for you
Yes - it's ironic however (perhaps even sarcastic since I'm pretty much walking all over his grave by saying so) that Pink Floyd "sucked" before Gilmour joined
Why should I care if your just some prick with absolutely no life with nothing better to do than to insult people who have actually done something with their life. So, what's it like knowing that your complete existence is a failure and you know you will never achieve anything in your sad, pathetic life?
OldSkoolSoldier: sos un pelotudo no sabes de musica criticas pink floyd y escuchyas motley crue indio yankee tenias q ser para no saber nada BOLUDAZO!!
nothing, it speaks of syd barrett, i guess you could say it speaks to the world dont do too much acid in a short period of time but john lennon took lsd every day for like a year and he was cool
Yeah, real damn shame... all these great guys, Syd and John and all the others whom I can't recollect, all of them dying way too early or going crazy way to soon. The music that they make laps endlessly like waves in an ocean, kissing their feet as they sunbathe on the Plutonioan Shore... The ocean is leviathan, No?
Miss you, Syd :_

This is the featured item for January the 6th in The Song For Today, written by Jimmie Oliver.

Written by Jimmie Oliver? How dare you try and take credit away from Pink Floyd. Damn you to hell!
PackLeader1990 3 years ago 3
acid really messed him up but i respect him.

Sadly Sid left us around the time of all the other greats. He simply remained on the Earth physically.
His biggest contribution was to set in motion a band that made really great music after he left.

Yes - it's ironic however (perhaps even sarcastic since I'm pretty much walking all over his grave by saying so) that Pink Floyd "sucked" before Gilmour joined
Carlibengarli 3 years ago
Pink Floyd sucked before Gilmour joined? You've got to be kidding me. You don't like Piper at the Gates of Dawn or A Saucerful of Secrets!?
PackLeader1990 3 years ago 3
I can't say I'm very familiar with the earlier work, but from what I've heard of it, no sorry - I don't.

He made a home video clip yes.
PearlJammer07 3 years ago
so is it true that he was a schizo before the acid, the acid only amplified it out of his control? He was a genius, but it's sad what became of him.

Why should I care if your just some prick with absolutely no life with nothing better to do than to insult people who have actually done something with their life. So, what's it like knowing that your complete existence is a failure and you know you will never achieve anything in your sad, pathetic life?

A vague question...
What does this say about the world?
musicman809 3 years ago
nothing, it speaks of syd barrett, i guess you could say it speaks to the world dont do too much acid in a short period of time but john lennon took lsd every day for like a year and he was cool
CaptainFantasy76 3 years ago
Yeah, real damn shame... all these great guys, Syd and John and all the others whom I can't recollect, all of them dying way too early or going crazy way to soon. The music that they make laps endlessly like waves in an ocean, kissing their feet as they sunbathe on the Plutonioan Shore... The ocean is leviathan, No?
musicman809 3 years ago
you on acid 2?

Nah, just high on life. You should try it, it's great.
