I watched this movie a while ago and I'm now reading Pride & Prejudice. I can't help but compare these two lovers to Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth! They seem very much alike.
@Lexightonportia So have I. :) It must be the reasons why Pride & Prejudice seems much more popular because it seems kind of related to the love story of Jane Austen and Tom Lefroy.
I really felt bad for the two of them because of their circumstances. If it was true, though, that Tom was indeed the inspiration for Darcy and Elizabeth was fashioned out of Jane herself, then I'd like to think that they got their happy ending somehow.
The chemistry between James McAvoy and Anne Hathaway is phenomenal, I hope they make another movie again.
i recently discovered jane austen's books and though they were amazing! what troubled me was how on earth she made such great stories. I NEEDED to understand how she was such a great author in her time when there were so little female writers, and every biography i tried to get about her has been sold out or unavalable at stores. this movie will do me nothing but good and there can be no better jane than anne hatheway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just got done watching this movie, and well since I dont want to spoil it for anyone, lets just say I was very pissed and sad at the same time at the end of this movie. And James Mcavoy...YUM! <3 :D
@XxDreamWriterxX I LOVE THAT SONG TOO! i did some research a while ago and apparently this song was specially made for the trailer... i don't know if anything has changed since then and i don't know if they decided to release the song or something, but that's what i know!
Why on earth I haven't watched this movie? Those who label her novels as romantic, haven't really read them... A bit of romantic, but realistic at the same time... I daresay one of my favorite writers and maybe the greatest female writer in the English Literature!!
@180missymoo she didnt nearly ellope with tom ,the furthest she got with him was like 5 dances or somthing, later in the real tom's life he said his love with jane was a 'boyish love'
Love this movie and love the trailer but can anybody help me?? haha ive been looking for the song on the trailer and is nowhere to be found i used to at leat be able to listen to it on the movies website but its gone, if anybody knows i would owe them so much please!! thank you :D
I thought this movie was amazing and I think Anne Hathaway was excellent as Jane Austen, I couldn't picture anyone doing it better. Maybe her accent wasn't perfection, but her acting and execution of the emotions and personality of Austen were beyond brilliant. I'm sure Austen wouldn't have cared that an American was playing the part, as long as it was done with respect, admiration and feeling.
Just a tip: Don't have too high hopes for this movie and you'll be satisfied.
I so looked forward to this but it only turned out alright. I just think that they should have picked a British actress in the first place, Anne Hathaway is a really good actress and all but she just wasn't ideal to play Jane Austen.
I remember I had too high hopes about Romeo and Juliet when that came out, once I got see it I was feeling more disappointed about it than satisfied watching it.
Same with Pan's Labyrinth, I truly thought it had to be a super great movie, turned out more "Okay" than "Great" to me.
So sad she could write such amazing love stories and not have one herself. But then again these stories did stem from her real life. She's an amazing writer. I loved her books. I wish she had the happiness her characters achieved.
it actually is a true story but it was never really proven that they had a deep romantic relationship, though it was proven that Tom LeFroy was in love with her :)
I reckon I better have a tissue in my hand when I watch this? sniffles, I can be very sensitive to romantic movies such as this one. > The New World is another such movie that does this to me.
I love to write. so I suppose that this movie will feel close to home when I watch it.
I am ordering it from my public library. So I should see it real soon.
I,too fell for James McAvoy after seeing this movie, and have been watching every thing with him in it since...This is a truly bittersweet movie, and he is not only sexy, but innocent, you know. Young love,it only happens once:)
I cried my eyes out because of this movie...It is one of my favorites but I stop the movie right after they run away together. It's too painful to watch after that...the chemistry between Anne and James is amazing! The love story is one of the best! I fell in love with James McAvoy after this movie
My goodness! You are all scaring me here. I know that I too will cry when I watch this movie. The trailer is great and I and can tell that James McAvoy will be good in this movie. Although I still laugh at the thought that the actor who played the faun in Narnia is so attractive to many women! However, listening to your description of him as an actor, I guess that I too will actually start to watch his movies.
I am a big fan of Anne Hathaway's movies. And I know this one will be sublime!
god, i love the part in the movie where she's dancing with that rich guy she doesn't like, then suddenly she spins around and James McAvoy's there. i think my heart stopped for a second when i saw that the first time! <3
Does anyone know both of the pieces played in this trailer? I know they're not from Little Women or Sense and Sensibility, those are played on the other trailer.
i absolutely LOVE Jane Austen and her books and this movie made me like and respect her so much more. and i LOVED James McAvoy in this movie! they have such good chemistry! i also fell in love with Pride&Prejudice with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfayden! check it out if you havent already, its an awesome movie!
Am I the only one who thinks Joe Anderson(Henry Austen) stole the show? Don't get me wrong, beautiful film, great acting done by all...but he was my favorite.
if anyone knows the music to this trailer, please let me know because i have been looking and looking, and just haven't found it. some have said that it is music from little women and sense and sensibility, but i don't know. :(
Maggie Smith is in it! She is one of my fancied actresses (as an actress, of course). It does look interesting (and real, which might make it better than Pride & Prejudice). Was it originally a book? 'Cause the trailer doesn't specify.
