That is one of my favorite moments in season 1, Olivia was stunned by what he said but didn't know what to say, but Walter knew, I don't even Peter realized what he was saying, he just said what he was feeling, you can tell he loves her by the way he looks at her, but he doesn't realize it himself yet, he thinks of it as love of a friend, but its much more, and Walter knows it, which is why he said what he said, he didn't mean the slug, he meant Olivia, oh and I like how selfless Olivia is too.
