i love this song......it reminds of a girl i used to date 27 years ago....my first love.....this song is ALMOST as beautiful as she was....but not quite!!......memories....happy daze!!!
The intro was filmed in Munich but not the actual live clip. This may be from Toronto. The clips from Munich's Circus Krone on the video/DVD have Roland try to speak German.
Songs From The Big Chair, The Hurting, Brothers in Arms, The Unforgetable Fire, The Joshua Three, The Dream of Blue Turtles, Nothing Like The Sun, Boys and Girls, Bête Noire, 90125, World Machine, Running in The Familly, Hunting High and Low, The Seven Ragged Tiger, Rio, Notorius, Low Life (New Order) and The Hatfull of a Hollow are albuns whose explain what were the 80's!!! It's a crowd of inspiration and art!!! And today? Nothing!!!
Quelle voix! How is it that some poeple are blessed with such a wonderful voice from the day they are born and that others can't sing a single word in tone? Can't imagine what it is kike to have a husband like Roland! Are his wife and children fans or not? I wonder....
i think on william's gregory sax solo and the brilliant job he is doing on goldfrapp....maybe songs from the big chair is the record that defines exactly the paranoia of the 80's....and working hour one of the mos t beautiful songs ever...
TFF did a performance live via satellite around 1985 New Years Eve on Dick Clark's rockin' show. they sung Shout if i remember correctly. they wore all black. does anyone have that performance on video? if yes please post it....tnx
Look at manny on drums. He's loving it. This is his song. He came up with the drums one day n Roland added the words and it's history. This is manny's jam. He's loving it. Rock it manny. TFF rules. Outstanding group and jam. 80s rule.

@PsyckBtu Yeah really. I love the look on Roland's face when the photographer said that. It was almost as if Roland was saying..... "Who the heck are Tears for Fees? Do your research buddy."
Best TFF song ever! What makes this particular version so great is the gorgeous guitar riffs in the instrumental break, before RO comes back in with "Find out..." the 2nd time. As an added bonus, the vocals are SPOT ON! I love the dialogue clips in this vid, but not after the 10th time when all I want is the song. Does anyone know if this version of the Working Hour, with the cool guitar riffs, exists elsewhere?
I think you all have listened to a lot of music. But admit, this is one of the most incredible of all the songs written in the past 30 years. Don´t you think that the lyrics are more than relevant today. The saxophone part in combination with the drums still makes me weep once in a while.
A few weeks back I found an old album by TFF. The old orange record works. It still sounds good. Brings me back to my first concert in 1983 in Groningen, the Martinihal. For me it was really incredible to see them instead of on TV. I remember Curt in his red sweater and what Roland told the people in the gallery: "In England they would be bored if they were sitting on their chairs." Everyone sang and danced. The live music was incredible. Still is.
Who cares if he looks like a nerd? Ya want all of the sax players to look like George Clooney ? Did ya ever notice a lot of WWF wrestlers dont play musical instruments?
The guy looks like a total nerd, but my God can he play the sax!!!! Love this song! Songs From The Big Chair. THE best album of the 80's??? I think so!
@4578a I grew up in the 60's and these guys were the most amazing sound to ever come out 2 decades later, saw them twice, moved me to tears.(no pun intended)
I remember singing this song in the girls bathroom while i was cutting class and my friend started to sing along and i was amazed that she actually knew the song we sang it all that day. Im african american and this was real msic when i was growing up in the 80's. They dont make em like this anymore. My friend passed away and whenever i think of her i think of this song they are both beautiful. RIP Theresa
@tinapbutler Hey,you're not the only one.I too am African American!! That is one the reasons why I Iiked Tears For Fears.Their music transcends race. They had a sound that was unique.Everyone could relate to them! I can't believe after all these years...I still remember the lyrics lol!! Thanks 4 sharing ur story about ur friend:-)
@TheMonolith75 Thanx 4 your comment!!!! Coming up in those days music was real, innocent, and had meaning. Its just not the same 4 me today. Don't get me wrong there are some good artist out there but the music just doesn't touch my heart like it used 2. I'll say it again they just don't make em like this anymore. Thanx again :-)
@tinapbutler Ur welcome!! Yes,for me-and now at the age of 35,the best music was in the 70's,80's and 90's(early)! It's songs like this that really touch my heart. It had meaning and depth...Which we're not getting these days. You can hear the passion and dedication in the vocals and music...Very powerful! The music is out there, just not in the top 40...LOL!! MYSPACE has alot of good artist who r not heard....But anyway, thanks for ur reply...WOW...That was quick...LOL!!
This is what a REAL band sound like, people! Tears for Fears might just be the most underated band ever. Roland Orzibal can sing his face off. I had a gi-normous 1980s sized crush on Curt Smith.
@RaulPinoR Manny was great, he definitely added to the sound on the Big Chair album. He reminds me of Joe English when he was with Paul McCartney&Wings.... a creative drummer is so important.
this is my all time favourite song since it came out - I can still listen to it over and over and each time it make me chills - the sax part, the wonderfull arrangements and Rolands strong voice - such an incredible track this is - Love it love it love it - thanks tears for fears!!!!
this is my all time favourite song since it came out - I can still listen to it over and over and each time it make me chill - the sax part, the wonderfull arrangements and Rolands strong voice - such an incredible track this is - Love it love it love it - thanks tears for fears!!!!
Roland is the better singer, for sure. But after much listening the biggest thing that comes through to me, Curt is an AMAZING bassist. Doesn't get much credit. But man, he is good, and on the albums he didn't do, the bass is just average. His work on Head over heels is just crazy.
@hyadude07 Actually it's Will Gregory. The great Mel Collins played on the album, as Will did, but for some reason the latter played all the solos (eg. "I believe"), which is a non-sense because Mel is virtually the best sax player out there.
However, Will Gregory really plays as if he was Collins' clone...
is great to listen to a band that offers a variety of sounds not only beetween albums, between tracks also, and the thing that makes this band also one of the best is the fact that the guys are HUMBLE, even they are great singers musicians composers like roland
@Jordi1962able bang on....class song....so good live also.....takes a big dump on todays pop music from a GREAT HEIGHT!!! young people who can write and perform such deep music...will we ever see that again?? unfortunatley the way music is going...i fear not
@bunzl72 : I am over 40, a TFF fan for 26 years and I agree with you so much. The Biebers and Gagas and Perrys need to listen to one TFF song and they will hide in shame. This was when pop/rock lyrics still had meaning and the singer had soul And I fear it's gone forever.... well almost.....
wow!!!!!!!!!! one of the greatest tracks of all time!!!!!! i remember when i first heard this i was mezmerized!!!! i am an african american who grew up in the 80's and tears for fears is one of my favorite bands!!!!! music has no color!!!! if your good your good and tears for fears are GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saw them twice.Best concerts ever. They are coming to Casino Rama(Ont .Canada) in July.I'm a little concerned about a casino show though. Anybody got any thoughts?
Saw them,, last night,, Tears for Fears live in Singapore..sadly,,they didnt cover this song and advice for the young at heart. aside from that,,, it was nostalgic,,classic,, superb
They could sing this in Australia Steve Norman from Spandau is a saxophonist....stand out tune never get sick of hearing it and time hasn't altered that
The best band to come out of the 80's .Good writing ,great voices and everybody could actually play an instrument.I've been going to concerts since 1970 and TFF'S were the best I have ever seen.
i think the cocteau twins were the best to come from the 80s, but youre right, TFF were so flawless. They had deserved success but still seem completely underrated when you consider how perfect they actually were.
There isn't an artist out there like Orzabal or Smith that can sing useful/meaningful lyrics with such intensity/emotion and with such great instrumentals to bring everything together. In a weird but strange way they remind me a bit of the Cure, though two completely different bands, they both sing about the discovery of the self. Both great bands and music.
I dont think someone can beat this guys...geez...arent they great, hm??? I mean...how can one even create all this strange scales that actually go together...
You're right. TFF's music has a tendency to go over the average music listener's head. Alot of the music from the 80's was just 3-chord gimmickery. You can't just "hear" TFF. You have to listen. And most people don't want to be bothered.
@Gtarist62 Being much younger when these songs came out...I never paid any attention to the lyrics...I mean really listened to them...but when you get older its as if the lyrics seem to stand out more. Same goes with hearing more than just the drums in a song...you actually hear all the instruments. Anyway thats just my take on it:)
It's amazing how TFF's songs were so well-constructed. Almost like symphonies, each instrument contributing a small, but vital part of the song. These guys were SO underrated.
I've posted it before but its worth repeating. That's the best intro to any song in history. Will Gregory's sax is AMAZING. Thanks Dermotoblong for Will's name, excited to look up his other work.
I agree with the guy who said Roland was the most underrated vocalist of the 80s. Guy had an amazing voice and could produce some great music such as this.
I'm so glad I have this DVD. Cos about every YT vid cuts off right when Roland starts to talk at the end of the song and I could never get to hear what he was going to say...grrrrr. Nice song. Great vid and band. they ROCKED this summer, can't wait to see them next summer if they make def plans to tour - dates pending. Curt Smith is keeping the fans up to date on their concerts. Just go to his website for more info. But I must admit It would be great if Roland had his site up too.
Way back in 1985, we used to refer to this song as the Pop Orgasm.

Had to come back to this one again! I was reading the inside cover of SFTBC & Roland said in 1985 that TFF would be forgotten in 20 years time!
Thankfully they haven't been... I am seeing them LIVE in 5 weeks time :-)

The best band to come out of the 80's .Good writing ,great voices and everybody could actually play an instrument.I've been going to concerts since 1970 and TFF'S were the best I have ever seen.

@Heckle100
i think the cocteau twins were the best to come from the 80s, but youre right, TFF were so flawless. They had deserved success but still seem completely underrated when you consider how perfect they actually were.
VadBibes 1 year ago
@Heckle100 one of the best yes. i'd put depeche mode and duran duran above these guys, though. i admit these guys and wham uk can sing great 'live'.

@IIIIdepechemodeIIII Duran Duran over TFF? Really? Duran Duran music is so simple. I loved the Arcadia album "So Red the Rose" though.

Both great bands and music.
hucster20 1 year ago 3
Never thought about what you wrote but I agree. Yes they are kind of out of the same shell of music and definately two great bands. Great comment!
melfan1968 1 year ago
I dont think someone can beat this guys...geez...arent they great, hm??? I mean...how can one even create all this strange scales that actually go together...
kykulienka 1 year ago 6
i guess they're underrated because people like crap. My mistake, most people, sorry about that.
hucster20 2 years ago 5

ALIKHANWEB 2 years ago
Not just the 80's, of all time. His voice is big and its dynamic but most importantly he is EXACTLY the same live as he is on vinyl.
