Lincoln wanted to kill the South because they had all of the ports and what Lincoln proposed was to buy there products, then tax them to hell. The South was being Oppressed and under the original Constitution, the South had every right to succeed from the union. He definately seemed smarter here than during his presidency, no doubt about that. I also think that the stupidity of Bush was blown out of proportions. But he still showed why he would eventually be a catastrophically bad President: way too aggressive. He didn't really hide that he would have sent soldiers off to Yemen, he had no problems at all with killing people (i.e. capital punishment) etc.
