As an avid outdoorsman and hunter, this kind of stuff infuriates me. A few bad seeds giving us all a bad image, and doing it under the heading of "Hunting". But this does not accurately represent the hunting community as a whole. Most hunters are active environmentalists who try and protect wildlife, while still obeying the laws of nature like the food chain. Population control is a necessity. The numbers don't lie. Not a fan of these guys anymore. Hunting for food is one thing. Hunting for the thrill of a kill is scarey to say the least. Only a sick person kills for the thrill of it, and I am sure there are many more of these types of hunters.
Anyone that hunts public land for wild animals knows the challenge involved. Read the success rates for deer and elk in your state. Most area around 6-10% for hunters who are doing it legally. There is nothing wrong with hunting as long as all laws are obeyed. Sticking an arrow in an animal is not inhumane. Native and indiginous people have done it for centuries. Todays societies have forgotten where we come from. if you dont like hunting....dont do it. Dont lobby to ban it for others.
While there are those that get boners watching Ted Nugent shoot animals inside fenced enclosures, most of us who would sooner kick Gentry's ass than hunt a tame animal. Hunters contribute more to the preservation of nature than all animal rights groups combined. Keep up the good work exposing the farce of canned hunting. If you toned down the anti-hunting rhetoric, I think you'd find that most hunters agree with you and would support your efforts to eradicate something we both despise.

They are graceful animals but I used they're meat, and also treat them with respect. And if we ever came to a point in our world where we would have to hunt and fish for a living, Country Folk would be just fine, while others would be begging us for food. Its not abuse, its living off the land.

yes thank a hunter for preserving the wildlife and land we have. go look at the money put into preserving land that is supplied by hunters (fed and state duck stamps, upland stamps, etc, donations to duck unlimited, could go on and on). Hunters leaving trash and mud ruts are the few that give the sport a bad name, obviously i dont condone that. killing an animal and eating it is as organic as it gets.

I hate the thought of hunting. In my opinion "sport" is not a valid reason.

Again.....I like to hunt. My Dad and I used to go pheasant hunting every fall in S. Dakota. Thats REAL bird hunting. We shot our limit, cleaned everything, and actually ate or gave the birds away to family that ate them.

Within the 'hunting' realm that includes slob hunters who wound animals and leave them to suffer a lingering death, and canned hunters, such as Gentry and pigeon shooters who have an animal put right in front of them to thrill kill or shoot and leave wounded. As an avid outdoorsman and hunter, this kind of stuff infuriates me. A few bad seeds giving us all a bad image, and doing it under the heading of "Hunting". But this does not accurately represent the hunting community as a whole. Most hunters are active environmentalists who try and protect wildlife, while still obeying the laws of nature like the food chain. Population control is a necessity. The numbers don't lie. There is nothing wrong with REAL hunters or REAL hunting.

Anyone that hunts public land for wild animals knows the challenge involved. Read the success rates for deer and elk in your state. Most area around 6-10% for hunters who are doing it legally. There is nothing wrong with hunting as long as all laws are obeyed. Sticking an arrow in an animal is not inhumane. Native and indiginous people have done it for centuries. Todays societies have forgotten where we come from. if you dont like hunting....dont do it. Dont lobby to ban it for others.

While there are those that get boners watching Ted Nugent shoot animals inside fenced enclosures, most of us who would sooner kick Gentry's ass than hunt a tame animal. Hunters contribute more to the preservation of nature than all animal rights groups combined. Keep up the good work exposing the farce of canned hunting. I still cant believe this! People are so sick! I am not a vegetarian or vegan. I do eat meat. I dont condone how industries treat animals. They are cruel beyond belief. I try to eat only free range, organic meat, where they are humanely killed(as humanely as is possible). I am outraged that they claimed this was a humane way to kill this poor bear! Why are people saying hunting isn't cruel. It is, it is horribal! Why should animal's be killed for some ignirent people's entertainment. It is disgusting! These people have no hearts for nature and creation. I would like to see the same thing happen to them. Killing animal's does not make you a man, it makes you an asshole. Killing animals we are ment to look after insted of killing them to get rid of our problems. This is unacceptable. Black Bears are becoming more rare. Why do this?

everyone should post this on thier myspace and facebook so that this cowardly sissy cant act like hes a brave hunter anymore. Lets get him where it hurts in his pocket book. Call your local stations and ask them to ban his music. Dont buy any of his CDs and never attend his concerts. I post this daily on my facebook and so do many of my friends. This is BS troy. You have brought shame on the great state you call home and on your family.

I am a " Hunter "...I go out and scout for sign...set up a hide or blind and take my chances that I may or may not see anything. I never have and never will have any problems with hunting, but anyone that would set up a kill, on a tame animal in a fenced enclosure is no hunter, they are a killer, plain and simple. It is people like Gentry that give a bad name to real hunters. He got off with basically a slap on the wrist instead of the jail time he should have gotten.

I kill animals and like it too. What's wrong with that? I don't support how Gentry set up the fake hunt but aside from that he did nothing wrong. As a farmer and a long time hunter. I know first hand that a properly placed broadhead, as Gentry demonstrated, is a humane way to kill an animal. If Cubby needed to be put down what was done wrong as far as kindness to the animal? If you want to care for animals you should be happy he was put down. He didn't tag it? Big deal...

@Spiffy303 Cubby didn't need to be put down. He needed dental work, and the money he earned throughout his life for Greenly could have paid for it; Gentry could have paid for it.
There was nothing kind about how the two of them ended the bear's life.

@SHARKonlineorg Dental work? Really? It's a bear. Like it or not he was livestock. When an aniamal is no longer productive on a farm it has to be sold or put down by the owner. I'm sure "Cubby" was getting old and it wasn't financially viable to do so. I wasn't right to set up a fake hunt but it was far from animal cruelty.

I didn't give two shit's about anything of any kind of civility when I was 22, but I would never have taken part in such a moronic ass idea to kill a helpless domesticated animal, and lie about it just to have a rug to brag, and lie about the rest of my life.
BTW- how many domesticated animals have you "HUNTED", a dog or 2, maybe some cats, or kittens, or anything else you might be able to find in the newspaper, or at the pet store?
