thanks Dr. Leonard. This might be helpful to me. I thought by tighten my lips, this will help me to reach the note easily. Now, I am struggling to change my lips. T-T
Oh my gosh, you are such an amazing piccolo player! I barely started playing piccolo, and all I get is a bad, airy tone, and it is extremely difficult for me to maintain intonation with it. I have a plastic and metal piccolo, and it's not really good-quality at all. If you can, can you give me any advice on how to produce a more resonant, yet full sound with a bad piccolo? :/
it's really up to the individual player to use thumb Bb or not....each instrument is different and a thumb Bb might not sound better on one instrument than other
On the flute, there is no acoustical difference between the three B-flat fingerings: "one-and-one," lever, and thumb B-flat. But on the piccolo, the tube is so short that when the right-hand first finger is down, it blocks some air escaping and therefore lowers the pitch and reduces the resonance. This is an acoustic fact.
