T-Mobile is the only other GSM network in the US, so they are your only option for a Jailbroken AND unlocked iPhone

The iPhone is physically incapable of reading/finding/connecting to a Verizon/Sprint network, regardless of what's done in the phone's software and settings.

Even if verizon doesn't pick up the iphone, they will most likely be uprgading their carrier service from cdma to something they are supposedly developing right now, called LTE which can use both CDMA and GSM signals, meaning that you could pick up an iphone, unlock it, then verizon will be more than happy to let you use it because they have an "open carrier" policy or something like that. But I'm holding out hope that they'll get the iphone...I love verizon but hate all their phones.

This is true. AT&T and Tmobile both use a GSM network. Verizon and Sprint use CDMA. You CANNOT unlock iphone for CDMA, it doesn't have the proper electronics inside the phone. I can even get my sprint phone to say "welcome to verizon wireless" by dialing *2 if I set it to "Roam Only" and I'm roaming on Verizon's network.
