@0oDarkLordRevano0 To my knowledge you can open it and run it at the same time as your win 7 operating system, the XP mode opens up as a new virtual page, remember only win 7 Pro and win 7 Ultimate can do this application.
@WillHayFan Oh, sorry. I thought your original comment said "You can play games in XP mode." I know you can install some games, but I'm not sure about playing them. Some people say you can right click on the start menu, go to "explore all users", and in that folder you can create shortcuts to your games. To play them, click on the Windows 7 start button, all programs, Windows Virtual PC, and you should find the shortcut you made in the "windows xp mode apps" folder. Its just a theory though...
@0oDarkLordRevano0 You can install and play games to my knowledge in the XP Mode and not Win7, it will run as a XP configuration, that's my understanding.
wait, when i download the XP mode from Microsoft's Website, it's like a regular XP Installation? or after i install both XP Mode and Virtual PC it will work?
and another question, when i activate the windows xp mode, how do i load a game or application from the real computer?
@ethai1 Download Virtual PC. Now download XP, this is a copy meant to run on Virtual PC. From there, it starts up another computer inside your current computer. You do everything you want to do in XP from there just like it were it's own computer.
the best online version of windows xp mode sucks. it is barley functional, you cant go on most of the programs and it sucks. but the version you download is really fully functional. its like if you set the xp mode to full screen, your siblings will think you actually downgraded from 7 to xp.
I think windows xp mode is great, I can use an old hp scanner that would not run under vista or 7 now. I have the Intel Corei7 and 8 gig of ram so the windows xp mode does not take quite as long to open. I will give credit where credit is due Microsoft made a great OS with Win 7 and I hope they do the same with Windows 8.
@SavageArms357 because thats boring and it get's old and stupid just continuously upgrading the same version of windows. They want to try something new and better and faster to test their skills instead of just updating, updating, updating, updating etc.

Why on my computrer in Windows xp mode, older games don't want to work?
For exemple Re-Volt??? I have also read in help section, that in XP mode graphic processing was disabled due to consumer's rights, but this would be stupid and unreasonable! Can anyone help me to make this game run?
I'm watching this via xp mode now and it is really a great feature. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit and it is just a cool feature to have, and for myself, it is a lot of fun to go back to my old OS and play around and use some outdated applications and games.
most if not all windows xp programes work in vista so this realy aint needed to be or is there some programes what run slower or dont work on windows 7, i havnt come across any yet
hello... i want to use xp mode for windows 7 ultimate... i went to download page but there are 2 options (xp mode) and( Virtual Pc)....which one should i need to select .... plz help ....plz help ....
@UmonPour Either you cpu doesn't support it or you just need to enable it in your bios. Please note though sometimes even if you cpu supports it the bios doesn't allow you to enable. If that's the case you may find a bios upgrade is available, sometimes you can find a user modded bios to enable it (like I had to do on my Acer 8930G laptop). If non of these are available then sadly you have to get your wallet out :D
@UmonPour Depending on your bios it maybe different. But you need to look through an many times its simply called "Virtualisation Technoligy" or "Hardware Virtualisation". Sometimes you see it called Intel/AMD VT. Just have a look through all your settings for either the words "VT or Virtulisation".
Thanks for the video. Hypothetical situation, while using Windows XP Mode you get a virus within Window XP Mode can that virus migrate to Windows 7 and infect Windows 7???
@jamesrschultz Because xp mode by default maps your hosts physical drives as network ones it is possible that certain viruses could infect host files (though I would have thought the default is read only on the host?)
It's a great virtual machine but it's not ultimate. It would have been if it had 3D features and stuff so that you could play old games in it. Neat, never the less.
@brickan2 Keep an eye on Citrix VMs they have been working on a decent virtual graphics card much more capable of running more intensive graphical applications. I've seen to dos game tomb raider running in VM and others like watching videos in WM and youtube and all worked fine.
XP mode in Windows 7 Pro would be useful for some legacy programs but you could just dual boot a Windows 7 Home Premium with XP (any version) and save yourself even more money :)

does installing of programs like 10 will it make pc slower when NOT runing?
applications make pc slower when running right?
zhir96 1 year ago
@zhir96 Several at a time make it slower, but installing 10 has no affect aside from using disk space.

ultimate is better than enterprise right?

@zhir96 I think Enterprise is just Ultimate geared for the business world since it has different activation.

Make sure that Virtual PC has your adapters in order. (It's in settings- just make sure they're enabled and your host computer system is connected)

No, just Windows 7

And rav743, you probably wouldnt need a virtual machine for Vista since Windows 7 is basically an improved Vista OS
imo 7 is what Vista should have been....
