The hymn is by Robert Wadsworth Lowry, (1826-1899), an American Baptist minister. The origin of the words is uncertain. There are articles on both Lowry and the hymn itself on Wiki. Does anyone know who did this gorgeous arrangement?
@LilyMackness This version is arranged by Mack Wilberg. He's the music director with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I heard this version almost 20 years ago when he arranged it for the Brigham Young University "Hymns of Thanksgiving" Fall concert. It has been my favorite song ever since then. His arrangements truly are ethereal. There a great profile on Wiki.

I sang this arrangement with the Victor Valley College Singers. It's a beautiful arrangement and you guys did a beautiful job on it. Thanks for posting it!
I have to sing this song in choir, too, but I don't have to sound so, um...opra-y??? Yeah, well, I am going to keep lookin, but ya, this is the one I'm singing =]
it's funny, everytime the director gives us a new song @ the Cathedral Choir I am in, I come to youtube and check out some performances. LOL xD check my videos!! :D blessings!!!!
First of all this is a Quaker Song/ Puritan? lol.. and its beautiful... the choir did o.k pretty well you guys memorized everything and got good harmony. But the soloists in this group please get your voices out of the back of your throat, i understand your trying to sound mature, thats not the way to go. Your choking your voice. This is not opera, its a hymn it should be soft and light not forced and Dark as night. The men did the best. The entrance should be an entrance not a jump or shove.
Even though this interpretation of Staheli's work is slow, the choir has certainly mastered every note and despite some of the other comments posted here, I think the soloists and the choir did a fantastic job. This is probably my favorite arrangement of this song. Great job!
I love this song i am singing this song in my spring chorus concert at my school. I do not want to be mean or anything they r good, but my school sounds a little better, no ofense intended sry the soloist is ok.
im singing this in an extra curricular choir thing called choirfest in my middle school. We also sing man of la mancha, but this is my second favorite.
This is not Wilberg. It's a Ronald Staheli arrangement.

seriously, what's the point of saying that? its gonna hurt the people's feelings anyway so you might as well just shut up.

It's a rude thing to say that someone did really well at singing a song???
I never said it was *their* song either.
