I remember when I was 14. My mother and I were returning home from a halloween party at a family friend's house. On the way, a deer ran across the road and we smacked into it. The front part of the car was smashed. Luckily, my mom and I weren't hurt. But let me tell you, sometimes that evening scares me shitless.

It's great that they managed to get some of the mother's milk into the fawn. It would have probably died if it didn't get that colostrum and the antibodies in it to fight off disease and get an immune system.

I think that was awsome. To often people don't want to "Get Involved." I know how these people felt. Early this past summer (2008) we released 3 squirrels we had raised from aprox. 2 weeks old. We got them after the tree their home was in had been cut down. Their eyes weren't even open yet. It was an awsome thing to experiance. And since we live in the country we still get to enjoy them because we released them in our back yard. They were still coming back for hand outs until it snowed.

people kept recognizing him after the show aired, always mistaking him for the guy who saved the deer. It made him so sad every time when he had to correct them, saying, "no, i was the one who shot the mother..." My dad is an animal person, he treats them like people. My dog and cat were more like a brother and sister than pets. Freeway the Fawn ended up dying, but i can't remember how.

animals most of the time get put down cause they do not have as good survival rate as humans

we're fairly big compared with most animal so most animals would bleed to death sooner or not have enough body tissue to repair the damage so they are just put down

This is a very touching story. With the mother dying and the child surviving, it sort of coincides with the analogy of the death and rebirth of the mythological phoenix. Also, it reminds me of this quote from the movie "Bambi 2": "Everything in the forest has its season. Where one thing falls, another grows." :)

I love stories like this. Freeway looks so cute. I love those little squeaks it made just after 6:00. Freeway is a funny name, considering the circumstances. Way to go, guys. You saved Freeway's life. This just goes to show that even good and miraculous things can come from tragedies.

Just a week ago my parents hit a deer when me and my girlfriend were in the backseat. Not so much damage but just the sideview mirror fell off the rearview mirror fell of the window and the windshield had a few cracks. After we hit it she takes off running.

There were several recorded footage rescues from Rescue 911 that were shown on Max X. The helicopter chasing an armed robbery suspect in Denver, the New Zealand tanker fire, the raccoon with its head stuck in a tree, and the wing walker who dangled beneath his plane were also on there. I think one where a man in a car pulled down a plane's landing gear may have also been on there.

I am not sure if I realy enjoyed this segment as much as any other one because my father is a deer hunter. I am not sure if my father would be eating Venasin after the deer dies, or try to save it. Either way, the deer may have died, but we got the Fawn. This is one segment my father needs to watch.
