this kit isn't that bad of a kit except that it shouldn't be as expensive. for as much as it is, it should carry a small knife and perhaps water purification tablets. I not too long ago bought one of these and added a small knife along with a tool logic credit card style survival kit, and added some strike anywhere matches. so now i have 3 ways to start a fire, a way to clean my fish if i catch any, and additional way of signaling etc.
You have to realise, this is the more basic version of the AMK's Pocket Survival Pak and is just a signaling kit - (build 3 fires in triangle with lots of smoke, whistle, signaling mirror) with heatsheets blanket for shelter while you wait, compass to help you get found easier, duct tape to repair heatsheets blanket and fishing kit to use for shelter making or kit repair and is only intended for a few hours until rescue arrives.
This is the scout version for when you get separated from your g
it is a decent kit but like rooftopeagle said. there is no knife n no way to get clean water except maybe the bag it self. i would personally add my own specifics to it n remove some things. i am intending to by this though
yes but id still suit it to myself. id use it as my kit not just a signaling kit. i have some signaling stuff incase i have to use it in an accident etc but for the most part mines a ditch kit so i wouldnt want to be found.
Water? Knife? I think this kit was poorly prioritized. It's missing some essentials, clean water and tools. I guess you could add a Spyderco Delica or ladybug, a 3mi trash bag, zip lock freezer bag and water purification tablets to round out the kit but I think the priorities were off kilter with this.
An example would be if you caught fish with the fishing kit (unlikely but possible) how would you gutt the fish? Furthermore the fire option could have been improved with a firesteel/flint
@rooftopeagle water dude? really? ever heard of boiling your water. never once been sick after boiling my water. also if your going out somewhere that you need a survival kit with you then you damnwell better already be carrying a knife. NO excuse for going out without a knife ever i dont care who you are. you go hiking without a knife or some sort of tool say an axe or machete then your a damn fool. I dont mean you:D just saying a little brain power can solve most issues with common sense.
Adventure medical kits makes freaking awesome stuff... Their medical kits are the greatest thing I've found. Their gear repair kits are amazing too. This thing is a great product. Adventure medical kits is the only brand I go to for my needs.
@GearBuyersGuide Yup, I'm gonna go with that was the point. It catches your eye or makes you wonder, but they reworded it to keep things a little more "family friendly" or "politically correct". =)

So if you think of this as just a basic signalling kit, you won't be disappointed so much.

The signal mirror being the most compact I've seen yet. The rest of that stuff is not bad, definitely needs a few additions though.

I have this and it's a lot nicer than it looks. It also has quite a bit of extra room and I easily added a small knife.

We don't all live near fish / water / lakes, etc

@rooftopeagle It has a little extra room, so you'd be able to stick a Tool Logic card knife in there.
