Some of the "play areas" outside the flats would not be buit nowdays..do you remember the concrete rectangle things for stepping on (playing jumps on) outside 131 Allen Street …CRACK!
What about the tree log that was always set on fire, or inside the concrete tubes where you had to watch out for random jobbies.. !
Was this one Maxwell Court? I cant remember… anyhow bring on the Commonwealth Games !
I don’t want to sound like I am reminiscing too much about Dalmarnock, but I grew up in this flat in the 70’s, and I think they had better consideration for young families than most of the new private estates that we are all mortgaged up in now-days.
All 4 flats had a proper play areas for the kids, the school was right there,& there was loads of open space for football or ball games, not like spam valleys that have been created with no areas for kids to play cos it’s a potential £200K house
The city in the 1960's built 282 high rise blocks (know this from school). Now there are about 190 remaining and in 10 years only about 60 will be left.
try living in africa where there are small huts to maybe a family of 7 or 8 people. fair enough i agree that we need more housing but to tear down buildings that you could put homeless people into i dont agree with
maybe, but are we putting homeless people in them? we maybe should but we're not, and i think glasgow has so much going for it, and we should be building FOR the future i dont see tower blocks as the future
What do you see as the future? row after row of red brick rabbit hutch houses and semi detaches that are appearing everywhere .. i like Glasgows tower blocks, fair enough if they are in bad condition but the majority of them could be refurbished, repaired and kept.
I agree. They are gutting out Stirlingfauld Court just now in Laurieston for a demolition. With the new houses in the Gorbals surely someone with a bit of business sense, could have bought them off the council and did them up to sell on for a a profit. Housing walking distance from the city centre, a real money making chance being passed up there imo.
13eex you like tower blocks? you are a tit!they pulled down many beautiful tennements that could have been refurbished to build this filth, good riddance to all this shit.
