This melody is based on a the romanian myth of the craftsman Manole(mesterul manole), in witch a great craftsman of churches had a problem with his greatest creation (a church). It had it's foundation sinking in the ground. He then found out that to resolve this problem he must build his pregnant wife in the foundation, witch he does(the metaphor here is that all great creation comes with sacrifices)
Rammstein found out about this legend when they where filming Rosenrot video in transilvania
I was playing Terraria while listening to music. When this track kicked in, I trapped the spawning point with dungeon bricks and spikes, and surrounded it with stone and stone walls until the spawning point became pitch black.
Anyone that entered the map got trapped in a dark stone room.
Imagine what I did with the next song: Disco Inferno.

@KRAZE87GMODDER Hahaha! It sounds a lot like rape, when you read the lyrics. I love this song, because it's actually their interpretation on Edgar Allen Poe's "A cast of Amontillado". It's really a wonderful story, regardless of how dark. I love EAP
I take it as getting involved with a relationship with someone, and "stone by stone" they wall you in until you've lost your freedom. I've been in relationships like that, where a woman tries to competely control every aspect of your life while she does what she wants, including seeing other men, behind your back. I've seen it happen to friends, too.
@LizzieSwereldje In his interview till said that they dont really think about the lyrics when they write them :D :D... so yea they find iit easy to write psychotic Songs :D
So Ramm means ram as in ramming into something. And Stein means stone. we're listening to ramstone. And yet that name is still a million times batter than all the other shite names for groups

@HeartOfInsanity they are both love hate songs both sad both controversial.. controversial the meaning of rammstein the best German band in the world!
Everyone knows Rammstein has lots of great songs, and even people who aren't into music have heard Du Hast. Hell, Rammstein has just become one of those band synonymous with music... Like Metallica or the Beatles. But this is the beast song they ever wrote.
@kyletheenigma I really liked the music from this Album but my favorite is probably Fuhre Mich or Hallelujah. I love Rammstein I'm glad there's so many other people out there that love them too.
Mmh, Walling up the side that is hate? I tried it, but the widely accepted embrace of apathy in this damned world bewilders me, every moment, a thought of another sin in this place, a step closer, another string broke edging me closer towards insanity, every day.
@Carrotlocks well the song here i think is about someone is walling in the part of himself he hates... that what i imagine , so to me this song is myself removing the part of myself i hate so i can find happiness...lol not to upset but i dont cut myself and would advise against it.
@luckywhale I just took this one as a creepy story how he walled her wife in for a reason not known but it set the tone that he promised to build her, big house house someday and took a twisted curve. Besides you hear her scream at one point when he hammers the nail in so yeah

Rammstein's genius is in double meanings which would only be found in interpretations rather than translations. Mostly, native speakers catch on to the often hidden meaning. "Einmauern does mean to wall in, yet is also used as a way of saying, building a wall around oneself, as in keeping your distance. In the middle age as punishment people would be 'walled in alive" with brick walls. They wrote the song after the read about the Austrian horror story 2 years ago. Enjoy - stop fighting!

@masterwow have to disappoint you with Google translator. They're fun, dark, historical and amazingly narrative. Absolut überspitze!
@evawilhelm I share the opinion. I'm talking about the English bits. The translation isn't very good. I've translated a few lines into English and made them even rhyme. :)
Yes they make use of their synonyms and that is good.
For me, the lyrics themselves don't seem very deep in themselves, whatever it is people call deep thought. What appeals to me, is that they are about what each one of us thinks without ever talking about it. To top it off they use plain, good 'ol simple German language.

They came to New Zealand in January and played at the Big Day Out.
Till was pretty pissed off because it became clear after a few songs that most of the crowd didn't understand a word of what they were singing... it became apparent when they played Ich Wil and there was probably only about 6 of us who put our hands up when he sang Ich will eure hände sehen. he was not happy... still, it was a damn good show and i thoroughly enjoyed it.

This song is creepy, Yet I find the lyrics beautiful and poetic, Rammstein you never fail to amaze me, This song live is perfection, tills vocals and richards guitars are perfect, I love rammstein ♥

Till Lindemann can kill 2 stones with one bird.
Till Lindemann sold out a concert in heaven, even though he's atheist.
