I really like the idea of a portable solar trailer - especially to charge your EV or PHEV. Why not power your Volt or battery-electric car with the sun and put all the EV naysayers that claim an EV is "coal-powered" to shame? What would the investment be in a total trailer system that would effectively charge an electric car? It seems we would need a lot more panels than shown on the above trailer. The portability and versatility are intrigueing. One interesting capability is vehicle to home.
Not to be a stickler, but this video does include some misinformation. he Volt's gas generator DOES at times, have a direct mechanical linkage to the drive wheels. It's a planetary gearset wherein GM engineers realized you could get better efficiency in certain conditions by the direct connection. Mainly this condition is over 70mph when the battery pack is depleted and you're traveling in charge-sustaining mode. Big flap over this as "GM lies" was horse dung as 50 miles pure EV is unprecidented
