@Steve564ify you'll need a piezo pickup that goes under the bridge. i'd suggest a K&k brand piezo for an archtop. I have one in my 1940 Epiphone Emperor, and it's fantastic
next time, make sure that the "live" sound of the acoustic guitar isn't just as loud as the sound that's coming out of the amp. that adulterates the result quite a bit.
and plugging an acoustic into an amp for an electric isn't too good an idea either: these speakers have literally no response above 5 to 6 kHz; that's where the sparkle of an a-guitar hasn't even started. in combination with such a magnetic pickup you will get a sound that's closer to the clean sound of an electric.
@van1980 It's probably mostly about convenience. You don't have to keep switching the pick up in and out every time you want to switch between acoustic and electric. You also get a much tidier cable at the bottom instead of at the sound hole and the EQ/volume controls mentioned. Maybe a better pickup too. It costs more but for someone playing a lot it would probably be worth it.
you ever wondered why they lable bass mids and high on an acoustic.. but on an electric all it says is volume and tone.... why cant they put the full eq on most electrics? btw these pickups are a life saver... i found a bedell guitar that i want but its just acoustic.. wich means i would have to carry a mic everywhere i take the bedell if i was performing with it.... with these just throw it into the guitar case and go.
@christainguitarguy most electric Guitars come with passive pickups unlike that of Acoustics. If you get a guitar with Active pickups that come with an internal preamp, examplae ESP's. You get the chance to EQ your mids , lows and trembles. Of course the guitar will cost more.
I've played the APX-500, FX-310 and FG700S and dislike all of them. The FX-310 had ultra high action too. But maybe I'm just unlucky because I've heard great things about them.
Yamaha doesn' t make bade guitars. Plain and simple. I have a $150 Yamaha that is loud, and has excellent intonation. Seriously, the thing tunes like a dream.
Yamaha is well known for their "cheaper" acoustic's that just seem to be amazing. I have a FG700S, and it's amazing. I've played other more expensive guitars (not by much, maybe $300) and it doesn't have the boom that my guitar has. But of course, it's all personal preference. Really dig Taylors.
I'm having this idea of putting this pickup on a already acoustic/electric guitar. I will use the acoustic output on a separate channel and have the pickup connected to an effects channel.
@bunsenhoneydew111 LOL I WOULN'T DRILL A HOLE ANYWHERE IN A GUITAR.... anyways... yeah it's cool... if you can't afford an electric acoustic guitar... though that cable will get in your way when playing.... if ur recording, i suggest you get a good condenser mic to record it.. they sound awesome.... if U'll play live, buy a pick up, they are not expensive.. like 70 bucks or so... anyways... later guys
those things are shit, since they are either singlecoil or humbuckers the acoustic guitar just sounds like a clean e-guitar...need to go piezo at least
blewss god for u i was almost about to go the the store and pick up supplies and get the drills and glue guns and other stuff and do everything manually thank god we are in the 21st century
ive seen guitars with a pickup on the bridge. I could probably use this since i have a 3/4 sized guitar and a pickup like that wouldnt fit. is this only on the built in acoustic electric guitars or can you buy it seperately?
Electric and accoutic guitar strings are designed differently and made from different materials typically. While you can put accoustic guitar strings on an electric guitar is usually a bad idea. Accoustic guitar strings are typically a much heavier gage and most electric necks are not designed to take the stress of heavy gage strings for prolonged periods.
nice vid man...im a begginer at guitar and i was wondering if it would work also on a nylon string guitar...since i have nylon and bronze strings it would be nice to have the pickup for both..
No, you'd need a different pickup for nylon strings. These soundhole pickups are similar to electric guitar pickups in that they are magnets that pick up electrical vibrations from steel strings. So they don't work on nylon strings, since nylon does not conduct electricity... But there are pickups designed for nylon strings, just that I'm not sure what they're called or where to find them.
Great video man. It really helped. I want to start playing out with my martin D-28 and i wanted an inexpensive pickup to put in it that would involve no drilling or taking the strings out. Thanks a lot.
bada bing bata boom?? tu no parle italiano jeeze lol but you did answer the question i was going to ask can i get a pick that fits into the sound whole
ive got this idea here .....got an old acoustic with f holes ,wanna make it into a hollow body electric,so if i put in two humbuckers and a couple of knobs and a switch .....would that work ??
I have the Promag Gold version of that pickup, and no matter how high I adjust the pickup to the low end, the 6th string doesn't get heard like I need it. Anybody use these regularly know how to fix that?
By the way, may I ask... Because I'm using an electric guitar solid state amplifier, and when I plug in my Woody, I don't hear anything until I raise the gain on the amp (the tone doesn't dirty up, it becomes louder but remains clean as I raise the gain). Is this normal, or is there something wrong with my Woody? Thanks!
Talking about soundhole pickups.. I have a Seymour Duncan Woody (singlecoil version) and it's nice, but thing is the pickup is quite large so it doesn't fit some acoustics. It is nice, though. Fits my Yamaha perfectly and it sounds great.

I want to say I was not trying to offend him, and who is better is not the matter, I was saying I don't like his mtv-style of talking or the sound of acoustic guitar plugged into electric guitar amps.
Bro, you are to cool as Axl Rose is to dick. I hope that when I go to recruit a band that I can find players with attitudes just like yours. Really good stuff, I'm learning a lot watching yer vids. Keep on rockin'!
if you run it though an electric amp then they do sound kinda electric. moreso with distortion, but you get too much feedback...so..not really a good idea
i have a question. i once saw a guy with one of these acoustic pickups on his acoustic guitar, only it was a humbucker. and it sounded really nice, like one of those gibson es 335 guitars. where do i get them from? i've been searching on google but i can't find them. is it possible that the guy made the pickup himself? damn i want it so bad
can we make an acoustic into an electric, where we install a pickup into the guitar and can plug a lead into the acoustic just like a normal electric acoustic? i know this involves drilling a hole into the guitar.
oh i'm sure you could...but iddunno if it'd sound the greatest...there must be certain ones for it to get that nylon soundin' better...so yah i'm just assuming that's how it goes though...check at a music store...
u can use your line6 with no prob. probably you'll get some feedback if you crank it up too loud, but you can place a cover on the soundhole to prevent that
Where can i buy one of this pickups online?

Bro, you are to cool as Axl Rose is to dick. I hope that when I go to recruit a band that I can find players with attitudes just like yours. Really good stuff, I'm learning a lot watching yer vids. Keep on rockin'!

What amplifier did you use?

Can it do the electric sound?

if you run it though an electric amp then they do sound kinda electric. moreso with distortion, but you get too much feedback...so..not really a good idea

i have a question. i once saw a guy with one of these acoustic pickups on his acoustic guitar, only it was a humbucker. and it sounded really nice, like one of those gibson es 335 guitars. where do i get them from? i've been searching on google but i can't find them. is it possible that the guy made the pickup himself? damn i want it so bad

can we make an acoustic into an electric, where we install a pickup into the guitar and can plug a lead into the acoustic just like a normal electric acoustic? i know this involves drilling a hole into the guitar.

can you use that pickup to a classical guitar? does the guitar have to be a steel string only?
RFawakhiri92 3 years ago
oh i'm sure you could...but iddunno if it'd sound the greatest...there must be certain ones for it to get that nylon soundin' better...so yah i'm just assuming that's how it goes though...check at a music store...

It would not work with a nylon because the metal string creates a voltage as it passes the magnets in the pickup.

u can use your line6 with no prob. probably you'll get some feedback if you crank it up too loud, but you can place a cover on the soundhole to prevent that

how do u remove the pickup?

I like this guy and the guitar lessons, but the part where he is waiting for the guy to zoom it in is priceless! haha
