@phillydisco ya thats where i seen it first, travolta makes it look good but when i do it, it looks foolish. i saw a video of the guy who taught travolta that move(deney terrio) and he just calls it the walking step.
@phillydisco It might have come from the locking style of dancing. If you check out the youtube video 'Pimp Walk' you can see elements in the leg work that are similar to what Travolta did. That might have been the origin, and then it got modified by different people.
@phillydisco Also check out the tribute video to Jimmy Scooby Doo Foster that someone uploaded on youtube. He was a soul train dancer that some credit as inventing a variation of that walk. The footage showing him doing it is probably from '73 or so.
@plasmaarmelund - there are very few movies made of this era that actually portray reality in the Disco's. Take Soul Train's tv show, darken the lights and put the lighted dance floor...Just spectacular...I know, I was there!
This makes me smile!!!!

@2009axlrose I don't know the name of it, but John Travolta does it during his famous solo dance in Saturday Night Fever.

This choreography is natural and transparent and what it's supposed to look like. Nobody was chasing their marks.

One of my favorite scenes of the movie! Great stuff. Music is "Machine Gun" by the Commodores.
