  • I hope that i'm still doing kata at 86.

  • Look at Youtube..........kyokushin kata Bassai Dai 大 極真カタ

  • Some of those techniques were wrong. There's a difference between "bad" and "wrong".

  • Oss!!!!

  • esta bailando robot

  • OSS!

  • 0.17- even has time to have a shit

  • Good on him, live live life to its fullest and never grow old. We can learn something from the old man. technique and skill is irrelevent so long as you are healthy, clear of mind and happy.

  • BRILL AT THAT AGE NOT MANY 86 YR OLDS CAN DO THAT.

  • I think the audience applause was more relief that he made it out of the Bassai Dai forest alive than anything else. But good on him for having a go. A true example of 'don't die wondering'.

  • Quisiera llegar a esa edad en esas condiciones, mis respetos ,OSS

  • oss...

  • I am 43, I've been practicing Karate since 11. I will be competing in 2 days. I intend to perform this kata. I will be thinking of him while trying to win at my best. He is truly an inspiration. I will show this to the kids at my Dojo.

  • I send my profound respects to this karate master for his courage and dedication so far. This is the true spirit of karate the practice, dedication and honor no matter the age.

I acknowledge him very deeply for the best feelings he has sent to my heart and soul through his dedication and performance. That is the spirit of the truly warrior. Domo arigato.

  • japanese!!

  • This is fantastic and should be encouraged, I know MUCH younger people who struggle to memorise the movements, it can only be good for the health to keep it up!!

  • omg awesome, i can only hope i'm still living at that age...

  • Excelso, grandioso, hegemónico! me emocioné de verlo! vitalidad!

    ---

High, great, hegemonic! I was excited to see it! vitality!

  • Godbless him! I hope I can still train when I'm his age. AWESOME!!!

  • I dont care what anyone saids about this man. He's awesome. I have a Dojo myself and when I see people especially of that age doing this it makes my day. :)

  • why would anyone say this isn't good.. .and u would quit at 86? holy shizzle this is dam great for an 86 year old...to even move this much at 86...is a big achievement

  • Biggest respect and an example for all of us. Hopefully we can perform like this when we are 86. With a deep bow Ossu

  • Wicked keep it up young man

  • osh..

  • ous!!!!!!

  • Oss!

  • ossu! a big respect for him. traning at that kind of age. and he is still very strong for his age. ossu!!!! God bless you sir.

  • To start training at that age takes some serious spirit. I could care less that he cant do a kick hes just proving that karate is for all ages and keeps you out of the nursing home. I think this guy is awesome

  • Brilliant , he is doing something that many people 60 years younger than him, can not do. Truly inspirational, it's what karate is all about, karate is a personal journey, it's not about how well you fight, or how good you look, karatedo is about how you live.

    Ossu

The ultimate aim of the art of Karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the characters of its participants. Master Gichin Funakoshi

  • OSU!!!! excellent Ok there were a few things but If I was still as active as him when I'm 86 I'd be happy

    OSU!!!

  • RESPECT THE OLD CHAP! This is one of the reasons why Martial Arts is sacred. Not like boxing or any other sports. He's a true martial artists.

  • MrDally, I understand your willingness to give up. Most guys would give up way before this guy. Compare him to all other men in the world over 85 and he is in the elite 1/100 of 1 percent. He may be a bit slower than the younger 80 to 84 year old division but he did NOT give up. At that age everything hurts, walking, breathing, standing up. It takes sheer will power to make your body do anything. He is a inspiration and hero to me.

  • I think I'm getting old hitting 30 :)

  • wat degree is he

  • @sdr4418

    He is 1st Dan.

  • Bravo!

  • Bravo!

  • Ossu.

  • Great job, you are my hero

    You beat youngsters any day

  • Unless of course you do not consider Kata to be exercise...

In which case, I humbly suggest... you are doing it wrong.

    ;)

  • @Leonid3s

He is 86 with ailing bones and body tissue.Give the guy some credit and respeect.

He is hunbly worth the respect.

  • @jason41760 What did I say that made you think I am disrespecting him?

  • @Leonid3s I didnt..I agreed with you but added he is humbly worthy of respect.

Alot of people are giving him bad feedback when I agree he should be given much much encouragement,And I hope his training assists him to live a longer fuller life.

Hes an inspiration and great to see pensioners so active.Amazing.

  • @jason41760 Indeed, he is worthy of respect. I thought I made that plain in my post. However, if I did not do so, allow me to do so now.

What he has accomplished at his age is a great personal victory. I hope he is an inspiration to others that it is never too late to pursue a dream.

  • @Leonid3s

You took the very words I wanted to say lol...Your so right it is never to late.

And a personal victory is also correct. What a man.

  • The elderly need exercise as much as the young. It has highly beneficial impact on their quality of life and helps to keep them mentally sharp.

As long as he can continue without harming his health, he should continue.

Or as the younger generation says...

    Mad Props DOOD!

    :)

  • Encourage his participation, admire his dedication, emulate his spirit. Osu.

  • Respect! Oss from germany.

  • PUGAY!!! Respect!

  • oss!!! respect!!!!

  • Yah!! Great Spirit!! Next: UNSU!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

  • oss!Total respect!A very difficult kata!

  • Respekt!!!

  • i am a red belt in karate and my sensai is showing me this sort of kata

  • Nice Bassai Dai I do the Kata very close to this. I have seen young men do this kata and not even close to your Form.

    Osu!!

  • Cmon, thats just a teenager with dyed grey hair!...nah, well done

    Oss!

  • I hope I'm still moving like that and doing forms when I reach that age!

  • MAGNIFIQUE

  • Boo yaaa grandpa, you rock!

  • Kuddos to him!!!

  • wouldnt you say karate is more about forming your charakter than reaching dan gradeSß

  • That's just like asking why would anyone go for their GED at 60 or 80? But that's what several people have done. Why do anything at any age, really? For some people the journey to success is longer. In my karate class there's 5 or 6 beginners over 40 or 50, one just got his 1st dan this spring at 56. If you have a desire to excel at something, and you are able, age should not matter. Who knows, you may reach old age and have some goal that seems crazy to everyone else but you!

  • amazing strong spirit! cool!

  • Inspiring! Inspiring! Inspiring! I hope I can Rock it still at 86 and beyond. You inspire me.

  • OSSU!!!!!!!!!!

  • RESPECT! OSSU!

  • well done sir

  • RESPECT. UTTER RESPECT

  • he does bassai dai bette than me!

  • Everyone's 100% is different. That is his 100%, and he should be proud. He is certainly an inspiration to me, and him doing bassai dai at 86, and looking pretty fit should be an inspiration to all young karateka. Karate is more than technique. Character is most important, and he has it.

  • karate is also education.... respect for old people... for our parents and grandparents!

  • a true karate-ka. OSS!

  • fantastic ,you put the younger nation to shame well done.

  • cmon younger nation lets up our skills wooo!!!

  • his stances are like that because his already 86!!! but i respect him!! ossu

  • Yes, big props on being able to do this at 86. I think it's a good instruction for younger learners: He's 86, whats your excuse for not having deep stances, not making full range of motion on blocks and strikes, poor posture. It also speaks for softer arts such as aikido, which seem to work better at old age.

  • i know he's 86, but i really don't get how he got his 1st dan black belt if his kata's are like this. i would like to see maybe his kumite and basics if you have a video of this to see if he's any different doing that. Respect to the guy though he's done well (Y)

  • Maybe he got his shodan 50 or 60 years ago while stationed in Japan during the occupation. I train with a guy who is 78 and has a lot of trouble moving. But he trains every day, gets in there and does his best. I make sure he lines up in a senior position to mine every class.

  • Some as wrote that he should give because his technic looks like that. Damn... karate is not about what you look like! It is about being. The look is for competition point but after that there is something else! That old men is 86 years old!!! A lot of master died at 60 or 70. Him ,86! Who has won !!

  • Maybe you should study Shotokan History further before leaving uneducated comments. The Founder of Shotokan, Gichin Funakoshi stated that "Karate was for the young and the old" At 86 years old this man is doing the very best he can do - no one can ask more than that. Karate training is for life. Oss

  • You are absolutly right!! Karate is for everybody.

  • @Sundome1 Here! here! I couldn't agree with you more!! Oss!!

  • @Sundome1

I think the guy is worthy of respect. Gichin Funakoshi stated Karate is for developing the mind and body. This guy here has certainly done just that.I hope Im still very active at that age.Well done. You are an inspiration.

  • @Sundome1 Oss...I agree

  • @Sundome1 I agree. It's a no-brainer that this isn't a top level execution, and it's obvious that the guy is not some old master who has been doing Bassai Dai all his life.Nevertheless, I admire his willpower and enthusiasm. If it helps him to get his daily dose of exercize, it's good enough. I started with shotokan at the age of 12, and today, at 51, I am gratefull for every second of my life spent on tatami.

  • @Sundome1 well said...its not about how good you are,but how much effort you put in..you put youre all into kata and you will get great respect from all...oss

  • i also shwo respect, that was admirable, i wont stop this art either

  • My respect towards him...

  • con toda mi admiracion y todo mi respeto.

    OOOOOSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

  • aí está um exemplo e um modelo de karateca, pela coragem e garra parabéns oss !

  • fairplay to the old chap, big respect to him, but if my karate looks like that when im his age I think I will give up, dont think he has been training for very long.

  • I think he only started 4 or 5 years ago, thats a pretty big effort for someone whos 81 but i get your point

  • yeah right, it is a big effort and I like I said, big respect to him, but surely he couldnt pass his first dan grading if his kata was like that, but maybe his basics and kumite are really crisp and strong! would like to see that video!

  • @getupusook in 5 years black belt??? where do you live?

  • @getupusook

    1st dan in 5 years ? For real ?

None of the black belts in 'my' dojo could do that in 5 years. And they're (relatively) young, fit, and practice at least 4 hours a week.

Not that I doubt his skill as a 1st dan karateka......but 4-5 years seems pretty fast to me.

  • @DarkcowboyDK

    Karate started by 1st dan.

    Jochen 40 years Karate practice!

  • @getupusook Agree. I am 60 years old and started at 38....leave the practiced but again I am trying to recapture some memories!

  • You are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrDalley well, if you will live up to 86...

  • @MrDalley

Let it sink in... he is 86! If you do any kind of karate, or any kind of physical exercise at that age, you should congratulate yourself.

  • @MrDalley This place( You Tube) in its origin was a site to share experienced memories and events. When someone exposes his/hers activities, their main purpose with rare exceptions, is to share any aspect of their life, to celebrated, to commemorate. I have almost 35 years in the Martial Arts( European,Japan, Asian) and during that time I 've learned to recognize that any step or achievement counts. If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything.

  • @aeortiz2004 I did have something good to say! I said big respect to him! where I come from, giving someone respect is seen as a good thing, I just said in my opinion he didnt look like he had been training for many years, the person who posted the video informed me that he had only been training for 5 years and actually said he got my point (see below) if my karate looked like that I would give up, personal choice, but it wont because I didnt start training in my 80s, freedom of youtube speech!
