I hate how the media portrays Iran as insane and evil for wanting nuclear weapons. It's thoroughly dishonest. I don't like the Iranian government but if I were Iranian I would want nuclear weapons for my country. The USA has demonstrated itself to be a significant threat by attacking and invading two of Iran's neighbors (Iraq and Afghanistan). Having nukes would almost certainly guarantee Iran's future safety.

Frednoname, my point is that what Iran is doing is perfectly rational. If Iran were fully democratic and secular they would be taking the same actions to defend themselves (including lying about refining uranium). The way the media has portrayed this is deliberately misleading. It stinks of the drumbeat to war that I've already witnessed in my country (the USA) several times already.

I live in the USA. The media has been against any attack on Iran for years. I have heard from the left that we will attack this year, every year since 2003. Point is if Iran gets a nuke, Israel will attack because they can not allow the people who arm hezbolah and hamas to have a nuke.

Isn't it rational for Iran to pursue nuclear weapons given recent history and if we don't want Iran to have nuclear weapons shouldn't we be dealing with the legitimate concerns that the Iranian government has? Put the shoe on the other foot. Why should they trust us?

I spent years talking to my grandfather (you'd have dismissed him as a "Typical leftist idiot") about his experiences as a soldier during World War 2 and I learned a lot. He made it real to me.
