  • poor table

  • Bioware cracks me up. Their writing is so great, so deep, until you get to the romance options, at which point they reveal themselves to be autistic neckbeards. I was having a deep conversation with Thane about the death of his wife and son, and then suddenly my own reply option was "I want you." ...Wat? The female voice actress suddenly goes from strong and confident to weird confused slut, like she's trying to do lusty without having a clue how (no direction?) It's weird shit.

  • @FeralSheWolf to be fair you don't have to be a slut. That's just the way you portrayed your char.

  • @FeralSheWolf I don't think the choices are necessarily "bad writing" so much as Bioware is making the romance option extremely obvious vs the neutral one so the player doesn't get pinned into a romance unknowingly. Not that the wording is that great, but still. Much like when recruiting Thane, and he talks about how 'you were a valuable distraction,' you can go straight to telling him you're recruiting or choose "Bastard", calling him out on using you...which just seemed overly rude to me.

  • Thane had a hard life.

  • Shepard says Boom shankar

  • koyalot:Dad Whos this.

    Thane: your baby Brother

  • This is sad but nice, he shouldn't feel ashamed, killing is always bad but the universe is usually better off without some people and he took alot of those kind of people out.

Same thing with real assassins these days, Thane reminds me of Sam fisher or Agent 47 a bit.

  • @Johny40Se7en

I'm pretty sure it's not so much the killing he's referring to being ashamed of. He's ashamed because now that he has something (or rather someone) to live for, he's afraid to die. As he can tell Shepard in one of their conversations, "One advantage to my training is that I've always considered myself, to some extent, dead." I'm more than happy to comfort him though. :P

  • @Tygrasong Oh ok, I only played through it with male Shepard so didn't hear that, he says something else close to that though.

He says something like "from a young age I taught myself to keep others distant so that we don't get attached, another reason is that, if I made an enemy and they couldn't get to me they would involve the ones I care for, if I have no friends I have no weaknesses, but it gets very lonely having no one in my life to talk to in a personal manner".

    Quite unfair and sad =/

  • @Johny40Se7en Indeed...very sad especially since he's been alone, even from his son, after his wife was murdered by his enemies. I've played as both a male and female Shepard. If you talk to him enough, he can tell a Shepard of either gender, depending on your conversation choices, that, "You are the only friend I've made in ten years." It's amazing the amount of depth Bioware gave his character.

  • @Tygrasong I try to speak with all the crew as much as I can, I think I heard it all from them except for Miranda, I broke up the fight between her and Jack and chose sides with Jack a bit so she wouldn't talk alot after that =/

Jack's story is very sad aswell, cruel what she's been through, nice girl and I had the special scene with her, romance thing, it's cool =)

  • @Johny40Se7en My husband did the same thing, but I was able to save enough Paragon points to mediate between Jack and Miranda,,,if only to keep all my team alive. All the romances are very well done, but I do agree that Thane and Jack's are probably the saddest.

  • @Tygrasong What do you mean if only to keep all the team alive? I've seen videos of some people getting killed like at the end but I don't know how they did this, I didn't have any die with me, thankfully.

  • @Johny40Se7en Non-Loyal Team Members can get killed in the suicide mission. Miranda is a bit weird and can only die if she's non-loyal and left behind on the "Hold the Line" segment without enough heavy hitters with her. If your specialist isn't loyal, either they or another team mate will die. If you can't completely mitigate Jack/Miranda or Tali/Legion's fights, you will lose the loyalty of the one who's side you don't take, and you can't get it back without a VERY high intimidation check.

  • @Johny40Se7en Also, if you pick someone for the specialist role who isn't suited for it, they'll die. There are guides out there, and I made darn sure I got EVERYTHING done...as well as the mandatory ship upgrades.

  • @Tygrasong People might be a bit p****ed off with us filling the comments like this haha =P

I chose Jack to protect us from the swarms, Samara was the other choice because of their biotics and chose carefully for other things like Garrus to take the others to the ship.

I was wrong to say none died, none of the ones you choose to go with you died, Kelly and engineering crew died when you have to control Joker, I upgraded the ship as much as I could though.

Kelly died in those pods at the end.

  • @Johny40Se7en The more missions you do after acquiring the Reaper IFF, the more people (and I don't mean recruited squad members, I mean random Joe Schmoe's running the ship) die when you are on the suicide run. Personally I do all missions available, then do the Reaper IFF quest, then Legion's loyalty quest, then right onto the suicide mission. Nobody dies that way.

  • @spiraloutward Thanks, I'll do that if I go through it again, I did the reaper IFF thing quite early because I was in that cluster or galaxy at the time, I did another quest in a near place.

  • I would bang thanes lights out. Lizard dick and all

  • I was so upset when Thane was killed in my ending.

  • Out of all the supposed "romances" you can have in ME, I honestly feel for Thane, Garrus, and Jack. Hell, worse yet, poor Tali! Thane simply because of what is going to come to pass in his near future. Garrus, it's hard to say, it's just there. Jack? She's so screwed up in the head already. She doesn't need THAT drama too. And Tali, well we all know what becomes of her if it does come to pass

  • @LadyVedder what are you talking about nothing bad happened to her when i romanced tali?

  • i'd do sick things to have that green ass in my bed.

  • LIZARD DICK

  • Is it just me or are the alien characters more attractive than the humans?

  • @optimusprime2008 it's because we know what our race can do, but no idea what others can. most likely why a lot of people go for elves too (like fenris *drool*)

  • Lol, Thane rage

  • I'ts like having sex with kameleon..

  • Thane: "Kolyat, let me introduce you to your new mother."

Kolyat: "But, she is ... human?"

    Thane: "Your point is?"

    Kolyat: ...

    Shep: ^.^

  • Hope she took into account Mordin's pamphlets

  • the kissing looks so bad lol wow

  • Damn. How does Bioware write such good game scripts? I played ME1, now, because of this scene, I'm picking up ME2 next chance I get.

  • @kingkoal777 YOU NEVER PICKED UP ME2? You sir need to get on that game.

  • can you give me your shepard's identity code? she looks very pretty

  • Thane for the win! Siha out.

  • Thane reminds me of Carth to an extent. Am I the only one?

  • Ugh as a man i found really hard to get my FemShepard to like him,. He's kind of a sniper-emo with an eidetic memory. Garrus romance is way better!

  • @Citan1981 Liara is better then both.

  • @Leylaashley

    Liara sucks

  • @becky45328 Liara does not suck. She saved Shep's butt when no obne else even tried. Withpout Liara there would be no ME2

  • Oh dear Jesus that drell's voice, you don't need to have sex with Thane, just listen to his voice and BAM instant orgasam

  • Thane's voice is EPIC!!!

  • Listening to Thane's voice through earbuds does things to my spine I'd rather not say here...LMAO

  • AWESOME SCRIPTWRITERS :D

  • love Thane's voice :)

  • Thane:Seeya

    Shepard:what?

    Thane:*walks through door*

  • not as good as garrus cut-scenes freaking hilarious!

  • What does Shiha mean?

  • @warriorfire8103 A Siha is one of the guardian/warrior angels of Arashu.

  • This is pretty cool. I've always liked Thane just for being awsome. Seeing this for the first time, I think I like Thane even more. Definitely not a 1 deminsional character.

  • why dose every one but shep cry? she goes threw the worst stuff :/

  • wow. i guess she'll have some mild hallucinations after that...

  • Thane= pure awsomeness

  • lol... It's ashame Thane is dying.. I think him and Shepard should be together.. Poor Thane!!! :(:(

  • 0:08 sounds like thane says sieg hiel...

  • he better be cured in ME3,or else bioware will have me on their door the next day i know he doesn't have one!

  • @TheGomesTuga I've heard word through the grapevine that Thane reconsiders having a lung transplant. No idea if that's true though. But here's hoping!

  • The morning after:

Shepard: Wow... what a weird dream... I kissed a fish and then it went down on me...

    Thane: ... Siha?

  • @GabSte1989 lmao XD

  • Comment removed

  • @GabSte1989 oh, it was highly intelligent and exceptionally witty. i said: "lmao XD". lol =/

  • @GabSte1989 Mmmm don't tease me lol

  • @GabSte1989

    Shepard:Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • He better be in mass effect 3 >:(

  • @solisgirl117 all the characters from ME2 are comfirmed to be in ME3 provided they survived the Suicide Mission.

  • In my opinion, Garrus>Thane>Kaidan>Jacob for romancing

  • i killed thane on accident... i didnt know man... i cried when he died, he was my favorite assassin ): fuck me man whats the point of this fucking life....

  • FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUu

  • thane is one of the many characters i find in games who i really just want to hug, even though i would likely find a knife in my back later. i really like characters with the dangerous jobs and really crappy pasts. i really like his character and would romance him in a second IF MY FEM SHEP WASNT SAVING HERSELF FOR KAIDEN IN ME3! T_T aww damn. i know that sounds stupid, seeing as kaiden is such a genaric character, but i gotta know what happens.

still, THANE FTW, Garrus a close second though

  • @FMAxROX same here lol. thane is awesome and if my femshep weren't such a paragon with a conscience then I would've romanced the hell out of him. but sadly I cannot bring myself to make my femshep cheat on kaidan :( yeah i agree, kaidan is kinda generic, but for some reason he just seems like the perfect LI for (my) femshep. idek it just feels so right ;_;

  • @pacmanincargopants damn having a conscience! lol but i know what you mean. being a paragon just makes femshep waaay to nice to cheat on the so sincere Kaiden. and i agree that kaiden seems like the better option for paragon femshep. he's just so opened minded about everything thats going on, even if it boarders the "i'm a good subordinate" kind of tone. after my first playthrough with maleshep, i felt so bad leaving him behind on virmire. both him and ash may be generic, but i like him better.

  • Don't fish lay eggs?

  • @Thehuntingwolf He's a reptile...

  • Shepard sure is one horny bastard, huh?

  • @Notalking74

She sure is. Shags with half her crew, skank.

  • I don't care that's he's a frog and that he's gonna die, he's SO my ME3 gay romance.

  • Barging into the Commander's quarters in an angsty stupor...

    Heavy risk, but the criiies...

  • Thane is like James Bond with Cancer

  • Whenever I think of Thane I always think of Boone from New Vegas.

    Thane is better.

  • That female Shepperd had Myke Lips (from Warehouse 13) What a luck alien

  • Basically with femshep it comes down to...

A giant cockroach (as flippin awesome as he may be...)

    A giant frog

the most boring character Bioware has ever farted out

the second most boring character Bioware has ever farted out.

    Blue lesbian.

  • @IbanezEqualsWin who's the cockroach and the two boring farts? xD

  • @BearMaster9013 I can't be the only one that thinks Garrus looks like a big roach!

Have you seen them without armor, dude!?

I let Kaiden live my first playthrough and was disgusted with my decision so I wasted no time putting the most boring fart down. I'll let Jacob live but, that's it.

  • @IbanezEqualsWin Can't argue with that logic

  • @FoxForever90 Tali's romance was

  • I always wondered why couldn't the female romance encounter isn't as emotional as these ones. Both Garrus and Thane's almost bring a tear to my eye. I just wonder why the developers couldn't make it emotional for the other side.

  • @FoxForever90

I don't know about that. Jack's romance was pretty deep. Probably the deepest and most emotional romance for ManShep.

  • This is probably my favorite romance, except maybe Shepard and Liara.

  • EDI: Shepard? I've noticed a drop in your EKG vitals is everything alright?

FemShepard: I LICK THANE TO MAKE THE PAIN GO AWAY!

    EDI: ....=.=

  • Looks like another version of Princess and the Frog .

So when's Thane going to turn into that prince.?

  • @xoxoEmilyLoverxoxo he already is

  • Comment removed

  • Wow... just... wow. Bioware did a great job with these scenes. First Garrus, making me feel like FemShepard should just hug him, and now Thane, who... yeah, needs an even bigger hug.

I don't have a clue how they can top this game off.

    Oh, wait! I know!

    Mass Effect 3! :D

  • IMHO, Thane and Jack have the best romance scenes in the game.

  • Is it sad that I have memorized every word of this segment?? yes but idk.

  • "Be alive with me tonight" is honestly almost as bad a line as "the priiize". *facepalm* This one was the best romance though... Except for that. Ugh, that line...

  • @Jyronaut I think that line suits it for the fact that thane is fearing that he will die someday and that before he met femshep he was prepared to accept it

of course its what "I think"

  • @Jyronaut Yeah...the line is really cheesy/corny. I can't think of a better word. It makes me facepalm, but it's still a great romance. Garrus as well, even though all we get is a headbump

  • @Jyronaut At least she got to the point. And it's a little more couth than "shut up and fuck me".

  • Why is it that only the *humans* undress? That's not fair. Not fair at all.

  • @brokenheartx712 Those humans are all racist!

  • It would be awesome if Kolyat came with you in ME3

  • The more human looking the person your romancing the intence the romance scene. What a fucking blow. I wanted to see me kiss Garrus.

  • Imagine if they did it and someone asked what happend and he goes into a flashback

  • @kanilau

"An air of tension around us. Moaning. Thrusting. So fast her eyes can't keep track. Joker's secret video feed beeps. I disregard. Cries of pleasure echo past the walls. The console rings. I cease my assault. She answers. Sounds of calibrations fill the room. The turian requests assistance. "Not now," she exclaims, "I'm doing some calibrations." She hangs up. I resume my attack. She is tenacious. The room spins. "Siha," I speak. A stream of silver in the dark. Spreading. Covering."

  • @merksperk2 Yeah..... Perfect memory makes things like this reeeeeally awkward. :P

  • @merksperk2 Drell can write porn novels like no other species.

  • You see the romance between these 2 felt more natural and felt real. But for some reason the worst romance out of all characters i would have to say it's Jacob. His felt phony and forced and she sounded slutty when talking to him and my female Shepard is not slut. wish she could have hooked up with Miranda that would have been hot.

  • From all the romance choices for female Shepard in ME2, this one was most decent imho. Not sure about the manly tears though, but I guess it's okay as long as he does not say anything about "THE PRIZE".

  • @merksperk2 That, is so epic dude !

  • @merksperk2 if his death doesn't validate him and it doesn't matter to you whether he loves or dies, why and how it is more emotionally filling that he dies at the end? Keep in mind thane does as he does because he thinks he is going to die; just think about the spin it will put on his outlook if he doesn't. I imagine he will wonder if he's worthy of a second chance, and evaluate his relationship with shep, THAT'S GOOD STORYTELLING - no dying to escape his problems, now he has to live and deal.

  • @Teealio

Good point, but who's to say that Thane dying is not good storytelling too? If Thane lives, like you said, he will have a new outlook on life as well as a second chance with Kolyat and Shepard. Whether Thane dies or not, he does not have the mindset of wanting to escape his problems, so you can throw that part out the window. (cont)

  • @Teealio

If he can't be cured, he has to be urgent with strengthening his relationship with his son and Shepard. Near the end, he may succeed in strengthening the bonds between them, but at that point, it'll be an emotional roller-coaster ride between the three of them until Thane dies. I could just imagine Kolyat volunteering to have his lungs be transplanted to Thane so that he may live, with Thane vehemently disagreeing, while Shepard makes the final choice. Tragic doesn't mean poor story.

  • i don't understand that..."i was worried abot you " = slap in tha face ?

  • @merksperk2 predictable unpreventavle death for a sick person = happens every day, predictable, foreseen, yet good storytelling.

No death of getting him surgery that will save his life in a scifi world where we can bring people back from the dead from meat and tubes years after death = bad storytelling?

Somebody is being very selective about their suspension of belief.

  • @Teealio

From a storytelling standpoint, yes. Deaths, especially in romances, are emotional yet tragic events. Call me crazy, but Thane not dying is BioWare's way of not angering the gamers, and also serves as their cop-out from Thane's premise in ME2, where supposedly, he's a dying man, and he must atone for his sins. That in mind, it would be anti-climactic for Thane if writers decided that he should live. Good storytelling will be out of the window, but the fans will be pleased regardless.

  • @merksperk2 So, His death has to validate him as a character/romance? It's a cop-out for him to do anything but die? pfft. I'm not saying that it must be "canon" for him to live, I am saying that there should be an option for people who played the game a particular way. Sure he's dying, but technically everyone in ME2 has the potential to die. You telling me it's ok to bring shep back from the dead, but they can't fix or replace his lungs? that's bad storytelling.

  • @Teealio

Dude, what are you saying? I never said that Thane has to die for his romance to be valid. The whole point of my rant back there is that Thane dying is good storytelling. That's what I said, and that's my whole point. BioWare will undoubtedly put choices in front of you so that you could save Thane, but in my opinion Thane dying is more emotional and is a more fitting piece for his character, because it affects him and Shepard in a more personal and intense way.

  • @Teealio

Since you can't read between the lines, I'll elaborate for you. Dying is NOT Thane's purpose. It does NOT define his character. What defines his character is his religion, his faith, his family, Kolyat in particular, and Shepard. Whether Thane dies or not, I don't care, because it does NOT affect his character. I just commented that Thane dying is undeniably more emotional than Thane taking a cure and living, and it fits well with his story overall. That's it.

  • @merksperk2 Thane does not need to die to validate him as a character. Its a launching pad for his story, but doesn't mean he is a better character just because he dies. For shepard that romanced him, succeeded in his loyalty mission - that shepard deserves a chance to maybe not cure but give him a longer, better quality of life. Are you saying that people with cancer are defined by their disease and deaths? People who love them deserve a chance!

  • @Teealio

Don't compare sicknesses and deaths in games to real-life ones. We can shoot people in the head in many games. I did not say that Thane dying would make for a better character. It's just good storytelling. However, if BioWare can create a story for Thane in which he lives, and that story isn't anti-climactic, then I'll take that any day.

  • @merksperk Thane does not need to due to validate him as a character. Its a launch pad yes, but it doesn't mean that he is a better character for croaking at the end. for a shepard that romanced him, succeeded in his loyalty mission and gives him a new lease on life - that shep deserves a chance to maybe not "cure" him but extend his life. You saying people with cancer etc are defined by death? Those that love him don't deserve the chance for a cure?

  • i had a bug, in that scene since i play the french game version, when she say that she don't need a speach, she say it whit men shepard's voice, so is it possible or not to romance thane with a mal shepard?

  • "Planks dont hit back"

    Bruce Lee

  • That was very angsty. But kinda cool at the same time. Too bad he's probably gonna die in the next game... I like Thane.

  • "You look beautiful...my Siha. I hear...the sea."

Good thing BioWare removed that line from the final ME2 game, because Shepard would have been drunk as fuck by the start of ME3.

  • @Trekkie447

Thanks. I came up with the above conversation when I listened to Thane's alternate dialogue if he dies in the Collector Base. There's just something about Thane 'going back to the sea' that really struck a chord with me.

    youtube (dot) com/watch?v=xVHrdMpKbHI

    It's the very last one.

  • sigh... at least we know we'll see him at least once in ME3, hopefully while he's still alive...

  • Fake, Sheppard Is a man

  • @Felaipes Shepard is who YOU want him/her to be.

  • best line ever "be alive with me tonight"

  • I was reading his dossier and it said when he was diagnosed, he refused to be on the list for lung transplant. Now with this relationship, will he decide to get it so he could be with femShep longer? That should have been an option after the final mission for ME2 or should be one for ME3

  • I read that any romance in ME2 will have an effect in ME3 when Kaidan comes back. I wonder how will it play out? Will Thane be back? Will there be a dramatic scene where you have to choose between them? Do you choose a relationship with Thane, which is deep, profound yet will be short-lived or Kaidan, which was(to me) gentle and sweet, he having that protective nature towards Shepard, thus the safer route? Too many questions to wait until March 2012.

  • I love than's romance because its powerful. Its an emotional roller coaster from.start to finish. In the beginning you are intrigued by his loyalty mission, his family. Then you come to see he was/is a family type of man. Things get deep when you see his affectionate he is. He wants to hold femshep hand everytime they talk, and during his scene, he cries because now he's afraid to die when he has something to live for. Garrus romance in comparison seems shallow, like friends with benefits.

  • Prolonged human to drell skin contact can cause small rash, itching. Oral contact may cause mild hallucinations.

  • wow ur shephard is pretty

do you have the facial code?

  • Shepard used lots of mouth wash later that night. The taste of rotten salamander distracted her so much during the final mission she accidentally got Jacob killed. Luckily nobody gave a fuck about him.

  • @Defendire Bwahaha! This deserves to be a top comment. (Even though I still give a fuck about Jacob.)

  • @Defendire Hey! Jacob was mt best friend in Mass effect 2. Thank good he survived and he will return in Mass effect 3. :)

  • lol frog sex?

  • Thane was my First Romance in ME2. He was so heartfelt and captivating. I felt sorry for him also, like i'd just wanna hold him forever, make him live the rest of his life happily before he passes away.

I take BioWare games so seriously in this respect, they do an amazing job with creating characters you really do CARE about. I just wish the 'Romance scene' was longer than just one kiss. Maybe a long snuggle on the bed etc. Ya'know. XD

  • @LightningProduction Same here. When I met him on my first playthrough I just found him so... somber and distant, yet he's exotic and intriguing as well. Of all the crew members he has the most depth in terms of personality. I'm not saying the others are shallow, but there's something about him that's just... different. Ironically, it pains me to try and romance someone other than him, ie, Jacob, simply because I know he'll die.

  • Wow Shepard just kissed a fish-man

  • @JadenTube thane isnt japanese....

  • not being smarmy or racist, but anyone noticed that Thanes' head reasembles the looks of a watermelon?

  • I say co with kaiden then thane then hopefully back to Kaiden in 3 makes sense to me

  • @merksperk2 that seems so... Real what you said it's sad and it sounds like what thane would say

  • @merksperk2.... Very detailed...sad...... I love it!

  • Kinda sad that Thane will more than likely die in ME3. I imagine it'll be in battle. After slaying countless enemies, Thane, with his sickness finally taking hold of him, shakes and stumbles down, Shepard right by his side in a final, tearful farewell.

"It is time. I longed to stay by your side until the very end of existence, but it seems Kalahira has finally taken hold of me. Siha, take care of the world. Take care of Kolyat."

*Thane's hand falls, a single tear streaming down from his eye*

  • @merksperk2 Wow, beautifully written. If Thane dies on account of his illness in ME3, I hope the dialogue will be something alone these lines.

  • @merksperk2 That's a little unnerving, this fantasy of yours.

  • @merksperk2 That's some depressive stuff bro ;-;

  • @Sonerr9700

It is. IMO Thane not dying in ME3 will be anti-climactic. However, I guess Thane will either take some kind of cure for his sickness or die, depending on your choices. Mordin may be involved with the whole process too.

  • merksperk2

He better die in ME3, it will be a huge letdown if they have this big happy ending where they discover a cure & he survives. Sort of takes away the emotional attachment to the character knowing he is trying to right his wrongs in his final weeks/months of his life

  • @merksperk2 GAY

  • Comment removed

  • @tipttt

No homo. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person here who has played a female Shepard in at least one playthrough. Next time, I suggest you think before you type.

  • @merksperk2 Wow.. Romance novel much?

  • @Exteminus

Not really, considering the fact that the romance scenes in the Mass Effect franchise are but a very small part in it's overall content. I'm not really a fan of novels like 'Twilight' in which there is essentially nothing but romance in every page. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but to me, the less romance there is, the more believable and realistic the story becomes, the characters themselves will value the romance more, and the romance portions will stick out more to the reader.

  • @merksperk2 it's a fine line: you need enough time to flesh out the characters, what it is they like about each other, and to make their romance feel real and believable. less isn't always more. but you're right: it's very, VERY tricky to pull off a story where the romance is the main plot, rather than a sub-plot.

And i didn't know you COULD "not really be a fan of twilight". it's the sort of book that most either love, or hate with a fiery intensity (i'm very much in the "hate" camp >_<)

  • @merksperk2 and than he shits himself and dies

  • @merksperk2

    weird

  • @Palatard

    LOL I agree.

  • @merksperk2 That would be cool IF MY THANE HADN'T BEEN DEVOURED THE FUCK UP BY SEEKER SWARMS.

  • @Slide2671

Thane: "NOT THE BEES! AAAAAAAAAHHHH! OH NO, NOT MY EYES! AAAAAAAAHHHHH! AAAAAAAAARRRRGH!"

  • @merksperk2 Oh god, don't remind me. It was one of the saddest moments of the entire game for me. But in the end, I kind of think it's fitting, and adds more growth to Shepard's character.

  • @merksperk2 I never thought a comment on YouTube, of all the God-forsaken places of the Internet, could make me tear up. ;A;
