  • I went to the hospital today and my right hip will need surgery aswel but not for now but in a couple of years, i really hate it. how do you get over such a thing that makes you handicap its just hard to me. I feel like am lifeless.

  • Awesome! Thnkx for posting all these videos Derek! We appreciate it.

  • Thanks Derek. Muchisimas gracias.

  • Having THR tomorrow on left side....due to OA, I'm only 37 years old and still in pretty good shape, I just can't deal with the pain and stiffness in the hip any more. Not to mention calling into work often. Your posts are very motivational. I know I will never be able to run for long distances again but who wants to anyway. I just want to be strong again ! I feel so feeble lately! Any suggestions will be appreciated......looks like you did great!

  • @beatman62301 Get Hip Resurfacing if you want to stay active. It is like a real once it is healed. THR is for older patients. Go tothe best hip resurfacing dr.

  • You 're not even supposed to run with a THR. THR won't last long if you run. You should have get Hip resurfacing. It has no physical limitation. YOu can run, bike as much as you want once the hip is heal. Look up some of the world triathlons with hip resurfacing. Only go see a GOOD hip resurfacing doctor, if you want hip resurfacing.

  • wow u look happy with ur new hip might i add u look healthy tooo

  • Can you explain the comments about 90 degrees? I am a cyclist, and am contemplating the BHR surgery. I am 41 yo male with severe arthritis. I need to be able to get my thigh right up to my chest, to get low on the bike. I can't do that right now. Will this surgery help with that?

  • The surgery may help with that but talk with your docotor to find out if he recommends a range of motion of that type!!

  • I also had bilateral hip dysplasia and had my first THR when I was 18, I had my 2nd THR this summer at the age of 21. I would advise you to please me be careful when running. My doctor advised me that running would be a no-go ever again.. while i sometimes "cheat" i don't do it on a normal basis! Congrats on progress, i have similar "battle wounds" so it's nice to see :)

  • I cant recall any groin pain!! But my muscles were weak for sure!! Be patient and good things will come out of this!

  • Hello- my name is Paola and I also have documented my progress of my right THR. I was wondering, did you have a little bit of groin pain the first few months of surgery. I am not even 6wks in however I have a slight groin pain that might be because my muscles are really weak. Started therapy Friday. Any advise or thoughts :)

  • you will be.. Remain patient and consistent with rehab and good things will happen!!

  • Derek, fantastic vids man. Well done! Your determination is just inspiring.

  • Great job

  • Hey derek, I loved the video, very uplifting, I had my hip replaced 6 weeks ago at 40, and as you may have experienced too, I cant wait for my 1st romantic night with my husband, you dont mention anything on your videos about romance!!! Any imput??

  • In terms of romance, you should be feeling up to snuff in another 2weeks or so.. Take it slooow and you will be just fine!!

  • Hi derek

I had my right hip replacement done 3 weeks ago, Doctors suggest not to cross your legs, and not to do over 90 degreee to your hip

and not to bear heavy weight? I saw you, you had done every thing excessing that points, can you suggest me any? Thank...

  • Those suggestions are just for your healing period.. When you are ready, you will be able to do mostly anything... I feel better than I have in 10yrs!!

  • These videos have really helped me and im sure others. Had my THR 5 weeks ago and am now able to walk AGAIN "well on crutches". I watched your story both pre and post op, and they helped me get over the fear of what turned out to be a life changing operation. My comment was really just to say thank you for taking the time to share your story, and to let others know that you really do get your life back.

  • thank you for showing this video.my mum as just had her hip done and is in so much pain.any tips on how she can be fit again like she was before? she is worried she won't walk again.

  • Your mom will be able to walk again trust me!!! She needs to take it slow and be patient which I know can be difficult. SHe has to try and walk with her crutches or walker everyday and listen to her physical therapist...

  • What is AVN?

  • Derek, AVN is Avascular Necrosis. It is a disease resulting from the temporary or permanent loss of the blood supply to the bones.

  • Gday amte, its really good to see you do all this. I was diagnosed with AVN about 4 1/2 yrs back I have pretty much all the moment of my leg and used to have pain in the past its been pretty much trouble free 3 1/2 yrs with just occasional slight pain. I just wanted to know how ur symptoms were.

I understand it is a personal thing but I just wanted first hand experience of others. Plz do let me know what ever u can.

  • I'm 42 and waiting for my full hip replacment. Oh boy I would love to be able to do half of what you do. Your a star.

  • You Wil be able to do what I do.. I am doing extremly well due to the surgery!! Best of luck and contact me anytime!!

  • Huge inspiration man! Thank you for posting this. I am not having any dissabilities but i want to exerccise and when i see people like you who had suffered this is the right "click" for me to start! Thank you!

  • your sick derek !!!!!!!!

  • Hi Derek, what an uplifting video I have found here to show my partner, who is on a waiting list. She won't believe itwhen I show her what you have achieved. Have you really pushed yourself hard??

  • Yes, I pushed myself pretty hard but believe me I took it slow at first and then begin to challenge myself on a weekly basis!

  • you are really doing these activities with 2 replaced hips? Oh my!

I can barely even walk on a walker and i'm 2 months post-op

  • You cant walk on a walker 2months after?? I find that hard to believe, are you rehabbing everyday and walking everyday?? You have do this or your recovery will become hindered!!

  • well my hip dislocated shortly after surgery and i had to have it fixed. An infection occured and i was nonweightbearing for 3 weeks so the rehab was hindered. I'm hoping to be strong and resilient just like you especially for someone this age.

  • ah I see, you had some major complications!! Jeez, thats pretty rough brother.. Reamain patient and focused and within the next 4-6 weeks you will start seeing and feeling a huge change.. Stay strong my friend and write me anytime!!

    Derek

  • yes, as long as i exercise everyday everything will become much easier!

And another question, are you able to sit past 90 degrees angle becuase that's the max i can sit up to

  • Yes I can sit past 90 degrees..However I dont think we are supossed to that often..

  • yeah. I think after the doctor givz u the green light then you can sit past 90 but only when necessary such as eating or standing up from the chair.

  • Hey derek

i would like to ask u a question what routine did u set ur self to become fit please reply

    thank you :)

  • Congrates on getting back on your feet Derek. Way to go!!!

  • Wow! That's amazing! I'm really pleased for you!

  • Go, Derek. Good luck with your new life. May you live injury free and be physically active for the rest of your life.

  • Thank you! I really feel like I have a new lease on life!!!
