Looking back, I have no idea where the inhuman patience came from that dragged me into beating the game. I nearly fainted when I saw I had unlocked not only diamond cup, but also "master" difficulty. I look fondly back at this game, but all I have are memories of great pride. Did you know you can't copy an F-Zero GX game save? I have a small memory card dedicated for the saves of this game. I defend it with my life.

I maneged to beat the story mode on normal. I was stuck on the 3rd mission for a while too. It is definitly one of the hardest missions. There is one other mission I found just as hard though.

Overall, I LOVE this game. No way will I ever beat it fully, but it is a blast to play, still. I love the sense of speed, the music, and brilliant track designs.

I had beaten this game earlier this year, and yeah Derek, it was insanely hard. It took me too many tries to beat and plus theres actually 10 "AX characters" to earn. I was very happy when i had beaten this game. You have 3 difficulties in each story mode chapter. Beating the hardest difficult of each chapter grants you the secret arcade AX characters. I beat the whole game but you have to be Japanese to beat this whole game and yet i pulled it off. This was the HARDEST game i've ever played.

Sony tried to make it look like a console for little kids (and they succes) by moking the HORRIBLE look of the console and the lack of DVD player. but gamecube was EASIER to program and had more power.

All joking aside, the difficulty is what makes this game legendary. It's what makes you want (and need!) to develop skill, and skill is what makes you feel satisfaction. Truly, online multiplayer is the only thing that could improve this game.

But unfortunately not everyone is willing to put in the time and effort needed to achieve the challenges the game has to offer, which results in poor sales and discourages games like this to be made despite it's excellent quality. It's a bit like the movie industry, in that good acting and story telling are no longer necessary because all people want to see are special effects and explosions. They aren't willing to invest their time in a movie that requires much thought.

@7TT77 got this game after so many years from the release and I have to say, wow. It is something Wipeout, but faster, lighter, but in a good sense. The vehicles feels as a paper, but in that speed, it is no problem. Also the design is so nice. I only probably miss a weapons from Wipeout, which is more aggressive, I would say. 9/10 game 10/10 from racers. And as was noted, this is really under-appreciated gem for the Cube. If I look back into those years,I would say those games had style...

if people think this game is too easy, they should try the battletoads series....(and if any of u kiddos don't know wat that is, it's an old game for nintendo SuperNES,GEnisis...ya type in those words and find ur emulators) it's a game harder than this one that gave me a similar adrenaline rush....i've beaten 1 for gameboy, battletoads and double dragon(the easiest one), and the first one for geneisis. i can't beat the one for super NES:battle toadsinBattlemaniacs- the 5th stage is impossible.

@Canute87 look. i beat this game every way possible, Master mode on the grand pix and all the story modes on each difficulty with most of the ships. and ya it wasn't easy it takes time, patience, and alot of practice to beat it, and for that i loved it. i hate games that just hold your hand and walk you through the levels that's no fun) . i find that a waste of money. the game is beatable, when u go in the race- u go in determined to die, if u go in determined to live and win- u'll surely loose.

@DaNileChannel Exactly. I've also beaten every aspect of this game from the Story mode and Grand Prix cups on all difficulties many times over with little effort. The hardest part of the game is without a doubt trying to beat the staff ghosts. I don't understand the hatred for the difficulty of GX. Yeah it's tough, stop whining and start practicing. The sense of accomplishment after beating this game I've found is unparalleled and that simply wouldn't be the case if it were any less challenging.

This is an amazing game, but I just wish I could get through the whole game. The stage with the closing gate is nearly impossible in every sense of the word. The controls are probably the best in any kart racer. That's the reason I keep coming back to this game: my suckage is not based on the controls.

@GamerNinjaX well... in fzero, it tells they go at max, is i believe, 1200+ km... while sonic can break the sound barrier and run at the speed of sound, which is mach 1 or: 1,225.1 km/h, now sonic has been able to go FASTER than that, as proven by sonic unleashed, so.... :D

actually mario kart 64 hasent aged well gameplay wise and its successors are alot better than it, but just like F-zero there is only one mario kart for each system, just like F-zero mario kart came out in 2008 so they already been stopped focusing on it since its already out and is old, and since there has been a F-zero for every console since its debut they are most likely focusing and making a game for it right now, probably.

protip: Rival killing helps a lot and you don't have to be first in every race to win the prix, in fact you don't even have to be first once... typically 3 out of 5 races you need to be in the top 5, 1 race in the top 10, 1 in the top 20. I THINK 300+ points is enough to be competitive for 1st in GP. Also 100% max speed or 100% max accel snake strat.
