I have a 307 Olds in my 1989 Chevy caprice wagon came like that from GM. Any difference in the valve train of a 307 and a Olds 350 rocket? I have roller lifters in my 307, not sure on the roller cam. She just turned over to 234,000 runs great doesn't not burn oil but got that tick noise on the driver side. Had one set of rockers already replaced the tap went away for about a month then came back. I got to keep it going til I get my 350 engine for it.
Just to let you know I built one just like that aftermarket forged pistons off the shelf heads preformer intake noticable cam I was not impressed myself .still works well today someone else has my 72 cutlass with that original engine I rebuilt in it . They put headers on it and let me drive it I noticed a little bit mor guts with that. obviously stock heads have some majorflow issues.
you can bolt on a set of 455 C heads on but they are 80cc so it kills compression how do you compensate for that? I'd like to know cause i got those heads and 2 350's
Im trying to get a 383, a 350. or a 454 for my 91' Caprice this December. Not for racing or anything like that but because the car feels like its not going anywhere with the stock 305 in it. I need more power.... any tips?
Check out the engine run stand- the engine is sitting on blocks of wood and strapped down using two little straps.... living on the edge. If it had come off of that- he would have been the one crapping in his pants
jesus, even with a normal exhaust system this engine has to sound like fucking godzilla coming down the street. i can only hope when i get my rocket 350 put into my '77 Cutlass it can sound 1/2 as good as this engine. good job guys!
Hi there, I once put #5 350 heads on a 455, it was real responsive down low and needed avgas to run! I've done it all when it comes to Olds engines, I even put one in a 1976 Triumph TR7. I used a Toronado intake for hood clearance and to shorten the oil fill tube, it even had dual exhaust.
8 thousand rpm easy!!!!!!!!!!!nice small block man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!mine is simaliar but i have iron heads(ported and polished) and a performer rpm .ive got 11.1 comp ratio and a split duration comp solid roller screw in studs and 1.6 rollers rockers mines revs 7 thousand allday.all machine work done at diablo valley machine in tha east bay area.i just changed 2 a dual feed carb and electric fuel pump ..i love olds!
The oil pump usually sucks the oil pan dry. You can slow the oil flow down or make the pan deeper. I prefer the restrictors and slowing the flow down.
The 350 Olds has a 4.057 bore and 3.38 stroke, and an excellent rod/stroke ratio. If you can get them to breathe and oil, you will have one bad ass little engine. you can bolt on a set of 455 C heads with the correct aftermarket intake and gain some hellatious breathing. The smallblock Olds is not to be underestimated.
You just bolt them right on unless the smallblock is a 1977 and up block, then you will need to drill the big block head bolt holes out to 1/2". The Edelbrock Olds performer RPM intake has taller ports and can be ported to match the big block heads. They are a great upgrade for the 350 and 403 but not the other Olds sb engines, they will lose too much compression. The best smallblock heads have the #5 cast into them, late 60's to about 70.
All Olds did to create a big block was to add deck height to an Olds small block. this is why all the accessory drives and the heads all interchange from the small block to the big blocks by Olds.
@Gaspipenicklioni good heads are the 1/2 inch head bolt heads..they just have to be worked over (smog bumps removed) and bigger valves put in..or just drill out the #5 heads to 1/2 inch and put bigger valves..either way the bigger head bolts are a stronger and better way to go.
Thats is one mean 350. I was watching your other videos and this small block sounds real mean compared to other small blocks. Btw all us Olds guys already know bout the chebby rods.. :-) AWESOME JOB it sounds sick I would love to see this customers car on the track and the E.T
That 350 sounds badass listen to my 355 behind a transmission. Mine sounds just as good you would never see me rev mine past 5 freewheeling. When i changed stalls i started it and damn it really revved quick. It still revs quick with a 9 inch converter. I cant wait to get my rearend done and get some track times. I wish i had longtube headers i just got 1 3/4 hedmans.
my stock 1969 442, 400 block w/ c head eats every stock ford, chevy, or mopar and its a drop top 11's from a role ! who wants some!
