  • i knew the divine comedy and this song

but i never guessed it'll be their song... thx for letting me know!

  • Ha Ha! i had absolutely no idea this version of the song ever existed! I only ever knew the Devine Comedy version (& the Father Ted theme music!) I love Ben Folds' voice

  • @photolitherland whoa I misread that and made the song have a completely different meaning

    I read "beasts" as "breasts"

  • OMG. I was JUST watching Father Ted and didnt even realize this was the melody! I luv both things

  • I LOVE THIS!

  • This is quite possibly the most adorable song I've ever heard. And the fact that Ben Folds covers it makes it about 237.9% more adorable.

  • how do i get a sweatshirt that says folds on it

  • Warm music

  • i want that folds jacket..

  • Oh hell, I wish I were young again... :)

Very well-made video! I never even realised the Father Ted theme had words, though I knew the band involved. I will definitely check out the Divine Comedy version now.

  • i love this video! one of my favorite songs of all time, too. great job, so cute [:

  • Love the original but love this one too - good vid too!

  • Oh wow this is very well done. Good job!

    Beautiful piano, btw. :]

  • this is a great video.. fits the song perfectly

  • awesome video!! great interpretation.

  • so cool. beautiful.

  • See that. Ben Folds makes people fall in love

  • beautiful portrayal of the song! Creative video, as well... I just feel as though the keyboard practice doesn't fit with the rest of the movie...I would have liked to see an old upright piano for the "writing" of the song... I loved it anyways though! Best one I've seen yet!

  • The original song is by the divine comedy. They reworked it with harpsichord for the father ted theme tune.

On a another note if you listen to the song my lovely horse in father ted its done by the divine comedy.

Actually does anyone know where to get this version of this song I don't know what album its on.

  • I found an album on iTunes called Supersunnyspeedgraphic, The LP. It's song number 3.

  • or "A Secret History: Best of Divine Comedy"

  • @murraythedemonhead

Actually the song was originally composed as the theme for Father Ted and was later worked into Songs of Love.

Oh, and this version of the songs is from Sunny 16 (released in 2003)

  • @murraythedemonhead You asked this question about three years ago, did you find the album the song is on? If not, the album is called Supersunnyspeedgraphic. It was released in 2006.

  • @puppetless2001 I did indeed find out. I've bought the album since but thank you for the response anyway :)

  • @murraythedemonhead Yeah I love them. But Ben does do a nice cover of it. And Father Ted ROCKS.

  • Has anyone else noticed this has the same tune as the Father Ted theme tune?

  • Hahaha, Thank you!!! That was doing my head in wondering where I'd heard the tune before :)

  • The original by Neil is done in Harpsichord for Father Ted.

  • heared this on colin murrays show on radio 1 in the uk and absolutely love it!!

  • i love it, it's fabulous!

  • dude is that the iowa state fair?

  • Hmmm. Not sure about Ben's cover. As a Divine Comedy fanatic I'm obviously biased towards the original version. I just don't like his voice. To airy and nice. Neil Hannon has a little bit more "GRRRrrrr" about him. If you know what GRRRrrrr, please send me the answer!!!

  • Neil puts more feeling into it. His voice is so beautiful it almost makes you cry.

  • I dont know what that idiot is talking about.

As another Ben Folds fan, I think this is absolutely fantastic and very well done.

Minus, if it bothers you so much, you dont need to share your insignificant views with the rest of the viewers.

Go write a poem about it, and whine about how HORRIBLE it is that people make music videos and put them on the internet.

Seriously though, GREAT job on the video.

  • This was in the UCS art show! Nice job.

  • Charming! And great attention to detail, too.

What'd you use to edit this?

  • I'm a huge Folds fan, and I dig this video. It gave me the warm fuzzies... good job!

  • love this song

  • if this is a fake its pretty damn good...good job!

  • I actually had to post again....what complete and utter crap.

I'm a huge ben folds fan. You are just a hack with a video camera and a telecine filter on your mactop.

  • i'm a huge ben folds fan - congrats. i think that was pretty decent, if a little unsubtle. i dont know what "50dkpminus2000" is talking about, i think you did a great song justice

  • I'll tell you what I'm talking about.

    It sucked.

  • hey minus, thanks for the constructive criticism... how about you come up with something intelligent to say.

    until then, nice work daikagei

  • what crap...

  • i really love this song

  • Cool video. I'm confused as to why certain parts are in black and white though. Our of curiosity, what grade are you in?

  • great vid bud, it's a divine comedy cover, neil hannon is a bad mofo too

  • Ah ignore me, the silly one who didn't read all the comments before commenting herself.

  • Is it just me, or is the tune of this the same as the theme tune to Father Ted? (Irish sitcom of many years ago)

  • very nice dude

  • This is a cover of a Divine Comedy song, Ben Folds didn't write it. Still, great version of a great song.

  • hey man sweet vid what film school you go to?

  • Wow! I haven't seen a video like this in ages - where's the Bentley, haha. You've got a great career ahead of you if you stick with your gift for detail. God bless you!

  • why did you have to sing a long in the video that is so dull..the video is ok but the lipsyncing is just wrong

  • fuck you.

  • that could be caused by the AV delay in youtube, and he may not even be singing that exact song.

  • I didnt realise Ben Folds was behind the rather catchy theme tune to Father Ted.

Great video by the way, love the intro especially :)

  • infact ben folds is covering a song by Neil Hannon of the Divine Comedy

  • Ben Folds isn't behind the theme to Father Ted. This is a cover of a Divine Comedy song. The theme to Father Ted is a shortened instrumental of the original. The original gives me goosebumps - Neil Hannon's voice is just amazing. I gotta give Ben Folds props for recognising a great song and bringing it to his fans but the original is loads better, IMHO.

  • Wait a second, where the hell is this song from? I have all of the Folds/Five CD's, and I've never heard it before in my life.

  • It is from one of his 5-song EPs.

  • one of ep's and now more recently Supersunnyspeedgraphic: the lp

  • Heh. I have that Folds track jacket... only red. Yellow and Black combination is kinda rare... anyway. This was great. I also thought that the fact that the video had parts in black and white was very Folds' true, given that Songs for Silverman was all greyscale. Nice job.

  • wow sick vid

    i love this song

  • This is purely incredible.

  • As someone who's been a part of his school's film production studio for 3 years(both semesters) I can say you really did a GREAT job! This is really a nice piece of film and you did the song justice! Nice work.

  • well done man. ^_^

  • wow man i would like to say ive seen a lot of ben folds put to video but none as good as this, its a quality video and it certainly does justice to the amazing lyrics

    nice job

  • Nice job. I loved where you put the shots of the carnival/amusement park. Great choice...but maybe that's because that's what I thought of too at that point of the song. Love the Folds jacket. I'm jealous. I want one.

    Well done.
