I saw these guys at a place called the Bank, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I kid you, not. They were a 'cover' band. No record deal, no screaming girls, "no nothing". They paid their dues, big time!
Hey! I just had a flashback! Danielle B....are you out there??! It would be so cool if you could somehow find your way to listening to this song and seeing my post! I was your crazy girlfriend in college and we used to jam out to this song when cruzin mainstreet in my car! I've tried to find you, calling your Mom in your hometown and trying to find you on facebook, but no luck. I haven't seen you in over 30 years. It would be so good to know how you are doing!
I caught this song on Direct TV music station yesterday, and was pumped, as I had completely forgot about this song and the 8-track or cassette? I had of this album! I haven't heard this song in over 30 years! WOW! It is so amazing how music can take you back to a moment in time-in an instant, by listening to it!
@TheGr8tfulguy When did you see them at the Royal Grove? I saw them in Omaha in '78 or '79. I remember thinking that the lead singer had such an awesome singing voice.
me too oh and BTW; IT IS THE FEDERAL RESSERVE THAT MAKES OUR COUNTRY'S DOLLAR WORTHLESS. WE ARE IN DEBT TO A PRIVATE BANK. HE WAS PUTTING AN END TO THE CONTROL OF THE FEDERAL RESSERVE RIGHT BEFORE HIS LIFE WAS TAKEN.
This is what Rock sounds like!! I remember buying the "Heaven Tonight" album in '79, my first year in Southern California, and I'll tell ya what!!! When I got to this song, I was rocking my ass out!!!
Well, I'm 49, living in Las Vegas, and this song STILL makes me rock my ass out!!!
It's Roy Wood's baby - the last hit single for The Move (Wood, Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan) during May 1972. Love the way Trick incorporate the riff for Wood's "Brontosaurus" mid-way through the song.
Cheap Trick wouldn't have happened without The Move
@1michelemichele1 It wasn't written by Lynne, it was written by Roy Wood, who was the leader and songwriter for the Move, which later morphed into ELO after Wood left.
'On Top Of The World' and 'Heaven Tonight', from the same album are far better than this; more depth, more interesting melodically. This is just a good time, paaarty song.
Actually, this song was written by Roy Wood of The Move, which Jeff Lynne was a member of. It does like an ELO song. But when Cheap Trick sing it, they sound almost like The Who.
Cheap trick did a great version of this!! i love the way in the early days the two pretty boys got posted on the front of they're albums & the two ugly ones on the back!
Ok, I have been a CT fan since 1979, I didn't know that this was a cover from the move?!? I had to listen to the original, and I may be biased, but I love this version so much better. Sorry IMHO. :)
Could you give me a piece of advice? I hesitate between "The collection" (Cheap Trick, In color, Heaven tonight) and "Original albums classics" (Cheap Trick, In color, Heaven tonight and two other LPs). I don't care about the price, but I care about the packaging. Do you have informations about those two products? Thanks in advance!
Excuse me??? Cheap Trick are an excellent band, but to say that the original by the Move is inferior to this is just sacrilege! In the UK Roy Wood is a legend, and the Move were one of the finest bands Birmingham ever produced.
Just listen to 'I can hear the grass grow', or any of their numbers from the 60's, and you will see what I mean.LEGENDS!!!
I don´t agree. I am a great Move fan. But the version of their original version could be better. With more energy. I still wait someone brings the cover of Down on the Bay of Cheap Trick. It is in some of their live albums.
@bevopete How can you say that? The original is cool, but Cheap Trick didn't exactly screw the song up with this version either. This sounds damn good and powerful too!
I think Cheap were admirers of The Move but The Move never really broke the USA. This is more laid back late 70s early 80s steel rock. The original was more zany
50s style and a fore shadow of the Wizzard records.
Saw them in concert back in about 1995 at the rock county fair in wisconsin and they still rule, no other band can play as good live!!! Rock and Roll will NEVER DIE!!!
@citybeat60 It wasn't written by Lynne, it was written by Roy Wood, who was the leader and songwriter of the Move, which morphed into ELO after Wood left

As a Move fan I have to admit I came the know this version before the Move original. And I have to admit this Cheap Trick cover beats the Move track.
The original is somekind of semi- live version and doesn´t have this kind of energy.
I have heard that this group made a cover also of the Move track Down on the Bay.
I´d like to hear.
