Since this is so, the father would have been beter suited to play along with the gag of "hick intellectual", instead of going for the cliche of "crude, outbursting hick".
It doesn't play into the joke that's being made - 2/3 of the characters (i.e. the mom and the daughter) are going in one direction, and the dad is (I think rather thoughtlessly) going in the opposite direction, with the very easy "Look I'm a loud dumb hick" routine.
Like I said, I can appreciate an in-depth analysis like that. I can imagine it must be frustrating for you to watch some of these videos and see the sort of drivel that a discouraging amount of people find entertaining.
Well, not so terrible, I take most of it in stride. Miss S.C was just so special, though, don't you agree? And I was so taken with the mom's performance of the parody, that the innappropriateness of the male actor just drove me mad! Ususlly I just keep my irony and sarcasm confined to my comments. Then usually only people like you notice! ;^)
The actress who plays the mother shows an amazing range of emotion, while still being very funny. The Dad has one emotion, and its crudely done at that. Fuck yourself.
This isn't exactly a blockbuster flick. Hopefully, you can understand that range of emotion is not necessarily the number one priority when making a sixty second long Youtube clip. It's true, the actress playing the mother does a great job. But the portrayal of the father was clearly SUPPOSED to be crude. That's where the comedy comes into play. I personally enjoyed the "public speecher" line. I understand if your sense of humor is a bit more high-brow, but please don't write him off entirely.
I do find it refreshing to find an intelligent, perceptive, analytical person on Youtube who actually cares about effort and character portrayal, but do you at least understand where I'm coming from?
Well, I didn't expect to get any more comments on this!
Why should good acting belong only to "blockbuster flicks"?
For that matter, far too many big-budget Hollywood productions (if that's what you mean by "blockbuster") suffer from bad acting!
The father's delivery is just far too crude, besides being totally out of synch with the "joke", which is that the parents have _coached_ their daughter to deliver this speech verbatim!
My point is, the joke was a subtle one. If the joke had been, "Look at how dumb the parents are, now we see where the daughter gets it", then the father's reactions would be fine.
But since the joke is, "Look how smart and sophisticated the parents THINK they are, while we see they are really just rubes." And thus we see where the daughter gets her tortured-highbrow attempt at intellect.
nice acting of her

The mother sucked balls, I only laughed because of the dad. You fucked it up, no wonder why this is rated one star.
