(Q 10 offsuit is not a raising hand from early position.) With a live straddle, players are often more suspicious when there is a raise because players will make a play at the pot just to collect the extra dead money (small and big blind + the live straddle), which explains why Lex also re-raised. Ivey's all in convinced Lex that Ivey actually had a hand.

Lex straddled, Barry's raise was weak so naturally it seemed like he was making a play so Ivey tried to strong arm him...now the chances of Lex getting a high pocket pair on a struddle are very low and if he actually did have AA or KK he would have gone all in after 3 bet by Ivey...but instead he just raised to $50k...so Ivey's all in is really not that big of a deal.

If you call with J K of hearts for 140k more it wouldn't be a good move because first of all 140k is A LOT of money. Sure these guys are millionaires, but even a few hundred grand still matters to them. And second, J K isn't a good hand to go all in with. You can easily be dominated by let's say A K or A Q or KK or QQ.

I've played with Ivey 2 sess's about 150 hands each and caught him a couple times trying it on me. I Ex. I had j10s in the cutO he was UTG he raised 5 times it was suspicious so I reraised and he pushed 4k and i called he had 63dbut sucked out

the reason why Phil Ivey is so special to the game of poker is that he demonstrates you don't need to have a hand to win, position, well timed and strong betting is what wins the day. If you get caught blufffing your image is strengthened and you get people to call you off when you make the best hand

@datu0108 that is not really true, its about bankroll management. if ivey has 50mln its not so painful to loose 100k. if you have $500bankroll its not painfull to loose $10. so everyone has a choice to play in a comfort zone.
to play with your full bankroll, that would be wrong and stupid. and you would be afraid to play.

@Bladen12345 me 2 last week i started play some again deposited 300 dollars sat down at wptpoker client played against tanya on 3-6 dollar nl heads up doubled up to 2k dollar and than tilted it all away by stupid unnescessary desciscions the gambling feelings showed up.. what am im doing.. i need take some time away from poker and only work now and reload myself before a comback..I cant start from nothing boring play for small dollars

i dont get why every1 is so impressed with iveys play here.. Lex straddled, Barry's raise was weak so naturally it seemed like he was making a play so Ivey tried to strong arm him...now the chances of Lex getting a high pocket pair on a struddle are very low and if he actually did have AA or KK he would have gone all in after 3 bet by Ivey...but instead he just raised to $50k...so Ivey's all in is really not that big of a deal.

And he only plays tournaments because there's not a decent cash game going on. So next time you decide to call $140K ALL IN with KJ high, think about How Ivey knew Lex was out of line as well.

I don't care how good, or how good you think you are, it takes a pair of steel nuts to 5 bet (6 bet if you include the straddle) $200k preflop with a 5 2 offsuit. 99% percent of players if they accomplish a bluff this deep would turn it over. If you call with J K of hearts for 140k more it wouldn't be a good move because first of all 140k is A LOT of money. Sure these guys are millionaires, but even a few hundred grand still matters to them. And second, J K isn't a good hand to go all in with. You can easily be dominated by let's say A K or A Q or KK or QQ.

@RS22s The guy should know that ivey could make a move with anything, the guy throws around money like it's play chips. Iveys a loose aggressive player and although he does get paid off when he has it, he also risks a lot to try to win hands where he doesn't have it, lex should know his opponents.

@intj123 lol what are you even saying. the move by lex was great but after ivey puts in the 5 bet allin are you seriously entertaining the idea that lex should call there. KJ is not ahead of anything and even if he is ahead, there is no real way he is a huge favorite. lex knows his opponents thats why he made such a great read putting in a pretty light four bet there. ivey just made an even better read with his 5 bet all in.

@donnybasshero lol...lex read the situation well and made a really great 4 bet. when ivey 5 bets allin, lex could still think ivey is weak, but it is almost impossible to justify calling with KJ in this spot. the best he can really hope for is to be like a 3 to 2 favorite with KJ against ivey. and a huge majority of the time hes going to be in really bad shape. how could he ever justify putting in 140k more to hope to be a 3 to 2 favorite for the pot. lets really think here people lol

@Raheyna888 i agree that ivey and durrrr know the right times to be aggressive, but its just completely off base to imply that lex doesnt know the right times to be aggressive. lex is a world class player and senses weakness better than almost any player, pretty much except ivey and durrrr in my opinion. he did step out of line a fair amount of times unsuccessfully in this game, but the calibur of play is so high and with such equally aggressive players there is going to be great variance

People will go broke when gambling. Phil used marks when he gamble. Eventually you have to pay off the loan money. No matter how much you make you will pennyless because you play according to your income. I guararntee he will be broke 3-4 years from now.
