@dserum06 Put your spaghetti on a cookie sheet lined with some parchment paper in the middle of the oven. Set the ovens temp to 160F and leave to door slightly cracked. Rotate your cookie sheet 90 degrees every 2 hours. At the halfway point flip your spaghetti over. You should be finished in about 18 - 20 hours.
LOVE your videos! ! ! I’m looking for a dehydrator now... I’ve been told the brand Excalibur is one of the best out there so I’m looking at the model 2500 for 149.99. Can’t wait to get it and start cooking the food that I like! Thank you so much for your great videos and hope to see many more! I AM subscribed to your channel...
Totally thought that was my phone ringing while watching this. Same ringtone. Great video, but it seems odd to use the aluminum foil if it has no real purpose on the trail. Thanks for the video!
Very impressive first episode. You will become a YouTube favorite because of your enthusiasm...your real world solutions and a great delivery. Well Done!
Wow fantastic. I subscribed because I saw Tinny of Minibulldesign cook your red bean recipe, and have been hooked here for the last few hours watching your videos. Thank you so much, and keep on making the videos! Kudos and karma from the UK :-)
@WetBryum The foil keeps light away from the food. For long term storage, light will contribute to your food going bad. Plus, the foil acts as a second layer and can help maintain the seal on the meals.
The Mountain House stuff is really high quality kit. One thing I enjoy about the hammock community is how much DIY is involved. The meat to pasta ratio in your dish is perfect! The quality of ingredients used is well worth making your own meals. We are not picky eaters but we know what we like. Thanks for the vid! I don't think people know you can home dehydrate or pressure can meat.
Love your foods you take along. Couldn't agree more with your acessment of those freeze-dried food. Even at Walmart they're simply too expensive. Still, I can see myself eating one -- once in a while, out of curiosity, but I think I'd rather have yours.. Thanks for the recipe. Best to ya.
Good video, the prepackaged meals are not only bland but are also full of sodium and other preservatives. Making your on allows you to also make meals that are much more healthy for you.
Congratulations! In under seven minutes you gave a comprehensive and enjoyable demonstration of how to dehyrate and rehydrate a meal. This feat has not been accomplished in under 40 minutes by others who have attempted it. Good editing You did not show food prep and cooking. This is not a cooking video. It is a dehydration/rehydration video. You wisely and correctly assumed the viewer already knew how to prep and cook food.
$6.95 for the MH meal is expensive? In Australia they charge $14-16 for the same thing. The Aussie and US dollar are pretty much on par so who is getting ripped off?
Commercial dehydrated meals are at least $10 in Australia for something only just edible.
Your channel is a winner, and I have a feeling that your portion sizes are similar to mine. :)

Recently a chef friend showed me his powdered olive oil. He uses tapioca maltodextrin. If you like to add some fat to your meals, give it a try.

What's the advantage of putting the dehydrated food inside a foil pouch (or in Mylar, for that matter)?

now how does the spaghetti rehydrate? is it hard, soft, watter logged, or like it has just been cooked?
Delta8559272 11 months ago
@Delta8559272 If you do it right, It rehydrates like it's just been cooked. About 1/2 inch over usually does the trick.
MrBabelfish5 11 months ago

Great Job , I never thought of measuring out 16 oz and dehydrating that size will do that way less stress.
