  • The Edge knows how to wail.

  • THE EDGE, SAMBORA, JOHN PETRUCCI, RYAN SHECKNER and ERIC CLAPTON!!! my ultime favorite guitarists,, :))

  • all he does is fucking bend, and does a few little hammer ons! Yeah i get the whole playing slow and soulful...but that dosnt mean holding out 2 notes for 10 seconds at a time. Go look up maggot brain by funkadelic if you want to hear genius. Dare you :P

  • The Edge has created an unique guitarplaying-style and sound that has influenced dozens of musicians. To be able to do that is simply put genius and pure talent. Like someone said here in the comments, that anyone can practice to become a superfast player... But not anyone can just create something new and distinctive. That's true creation.

  • im the only one hearing this sounds like voodoo child?

  • @MartinSommerseth2 count me in, its voodoo child in a slower tempo

  • This song is the truth about the Edge,

    He's one of the greatest,

The Guitar of Bullet The Blue Sky sings itself

  • I can play faster than The Edge, many people can too. But right now my sound isn't unique as his. It's amazing what he can do with a few and right notes.

People overate playing fast, what about BB King and his few notes? and Edge's innovative sound that adds so much to the music? The Edge is a great guitar player.

Jimmy Page once said that The Edge is a sonic genius, and he's damn right.

  • a DIFFERENT kind of guitar hero. very unselfish. he doesn't play like this often because u2 plays incredible as a whole.

he can take simple notes and make them into something extra ordinary. thats he's ranked in the top 25 of best guitarists in the world.

  • I don't care what anyone says, The Edge is a great, innovative, unique guitar player. He may not be showy about his skills like 98% of all other musicians, but the talent is still there.

  • AMAZING!!!

  • excellent

  • The Edge is great because he does not complicate. His purpose has always been to create an atmosphere nad to complement the other instruments. he rarely indulges in solo masturbations. That is why he is great. It's easy to forget long solos but you can never forget the simple tones that chime throughout virtually all U2 songs. Great wisdom boils down to simple phrases. So does great music!

  • @Ognen11 Exactly. Just like Keith Richards, George Harrison, Jimmy Page and Brian May (among many others) - they do not try and steal the song, but instead compliment the atmosphere.

  • If you dont like The Edge Why are you looking this video?!?!?! No one can play as The Edge!! HE is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow you're stupid. If you don't like Edge fine, whatever. Do you honestly think coming in here and commenting on this video is going to make anyone here think any less of the Edge? We're here because we love Edge and enjoy his playing. You're here only to be a total douche bag.

  • Why do you even bother watching these videos?

Morello plays innovative riffs? I like Morello but you have got to be joking. The guy is a one trick pony.He has been doing the same thing for almost 20 years and it's only getting worse.

  • a bit? very!

  • Happy birthday Edge!

  • GOOSEBUMPS OMG! Wish the full version was up! damn wow!

  • I guess he is so bad that he is a new guitar movie with Jimmy Page and Jack White Edge was given that name by a gang he grew up with (he didnt name himself, you are too stupid to look that up) some members of the gang happened to form U2 Bon Jovi sucks, they are gay and so are you...Sambora plays boring blues licks that Page and Clapton played a long time ago...Edge wanted to be different,so he chose to change his sound by using effects, better to be unique than do what everybody else does

  • thank you!

  • oh...and if you want a good the edge solo, listen to The Fly or Until The End of The World

  • ok guys this is how it is

the edge is one of the best guitarist maybe not by his skillz but by his great creativity and his UNIQUE guitar sound. he is good and he is my idol, he may not be an awesome solo player BUT he is THE MASTER OF GUITAR FX PEDALS nobody has/knows as many guitar effects as he does. there is no "greatest guitar player of all time" BUT there are MANY excellent guitar players out there and The Edge is definitely one of them. like Hendrix, Townshend, Gilmour, Clapton, Page.

  • i agree with you, i dont know how you can categorize any of these guitarists above each other because theyre all just so fuckin amazing in their own way

  • Precisely. Well Said. That's the problem with this Birdman cretin.

  • Birdman - you are so biased you can't understand the fact that the Edge truly is great. So is Gilmour. I've been listening to Gilmour since Ummagumma. Gilmour is awesome - though not fast, and in fact he doesn't care to be fast. It doesn't matter "how" the sound gets out - it matters that the Edge is every bit as original in his sound and his progressions and rhythms - and his appeal to music listeners is equal if not greater. They are my two favorites - but to rip the Edge as you do is absurd!

  • Biased? No, I like the Edge, and I like U2, but to say The Edge is a better guitarist than David Gilmour is absurd!

  • The Edge and U2 are awesome, but David Gilmour is a legend!

  • but only because Gilmour was there before The Edge played that style.

    Nevertheless, 2 great guitarists

  • Try & listen to Edge's solo in bullet the blue sky Popmart live in Mexico, i think thats the best one

  • I really feel sorry for people who think the edge is a bad guitar player just because he doesn't use speed as his trademark. Playing fast is something everybody can practice and learn, playing innovatively with interesting sounds and being creative is something only a genious does with music.

  • its the whole fact that he uses SHITLOADS of effects

  • totally. But it's how he uses does effects to construct a signature tone/sound.

Like that guy above, being a good guitarist is not about playing riffs loud n' fast. Go into any guitar shop for an hour and you'll see teenagers play fast flash licks, to be honest it's not impressive. Guitar playing is about sound/tone, emotion, feeling, love, hate, anger.... and getting that across in a song. Edge is a Master.

  • you cant hide behind effects....

if your shit you'll sound like shit no matter what

if your good youll sound good no matter what

and the edge sounds fucking awesome

  • people like you fucking piss me off. you cant hide behind effects you dipshit they dont somehow magically cloak your playing in a shroud of better phrasing and technique. the edge is fucking amazing, and i also find it funny how you talk about the edge being shit because of using many effects then saying morrello is much better. have you ever even heard the guy fucking play? he uses a shitload of effects too. not that hes bad or anything, hes another amazingly innovative guitarist, like the edge

  • well said

  • well said i will follow the edge...... and he does not use effects to cover up his playing have these people who say this ever listened to his acoustic work or his live solos !!!! edge uses a lot of effects because he likes them and they can be detrimental to the sounds he wants to acheive for the songs and who has ever seen a guitarist with such a big sound as edges, the guy is a genius to me and although im a massive fan of U2 i do like many other guitarists as well including dave gilmour.

  • very well put

  • @stafu83000 Doesn't use speed? He has one of the fastest picks there is. Fuck the haters, he is a warlock with a guitar, wringing out sounds nobody else can even touch...

  • @stafu83000 Agreed.

For a cool look at The Edge, Jack White and JIMMY PAGE get "It might get loud"... awesome movie.

  • @stafu83000 i agree but he still sucks

  • @stafu83000 I agree, don't get me wrong - but honest innovation and creativity come by means of one's own self and one's own physical and soulfully authentic artistic manifestations, rather than what they put in front of themselves to enhance that which is otherwise them. There is a definite gray area, I acknowledge this, but there is a point at which the use of such things comprises more than the majority of the creative output, or at least the reason for their recognition. The Edge is this.

  • Sorry but it's about the sound that is created. Nothing The Edge created came from Gilmour and vice versa. The Edge is a great melodic/innovative type of guitarist. I know technically there are better guitarists (speed, less mistakes, etc.) but The Edge as far as what he has produced musically surpasses Gilmour, I believe. There are so many signature licks that sound great, no matter how easy they are to play. Edge rocks!!

  • i dont think ive ever heard the edge make a mistake...

  • Pretty how you say gilmour sucks, as david was a major influence on sound, not techinque for which the Edge has barely none. He uses the DDL pretty good, but can not play a solo to save his life. And emotion is out the window. And yet how some people with obvious no ear, or tone, or understanding of playign the guitar will still say the edge is god, and Gilmour sucks, is beyond me. Yeah he has aot of good tone, for which he developed from David Gilmour, his Delay usage, but he can not play well

  • Just because the edge doesn't pretend that he is having an orgasm or epilepsia right on the stage doesn't make him a bad guitarist, and I think he is actually better than Dave Gilmour

  • You do know w´that calling him "The Edge" has nothing to do with his guitar playing, do ya?

  • it's because the form of his head^^

Bono called him so in their youth^^

  • Then go watch some Pink Floyd videos.

Or is being a douchebag to U2 fans more satisfying?

  • i respect them as a talented band but i hate them

  • U2 have sold more than 130 million albums since Boy, they're first album. They have 11 albums, 8 of them nº1 on the charts. Tough to beat

  • u2 is one of the biggest bands in the world mate.

  • doesn't make them good.

    Just look at Coldplay.

  • wow... ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... it was a joke right?

  • This solo makes the hair in the back of my head stand up. There is so much conviction in each note he plays, he doesn't need to play with speed or be super showy, but just play the notes he so carefully puts together... amazing!

  • What does solo mean to you?

Come on, you can't complain about delay effects. It's The Edge playing here!

  • True but he can complain about the fact that it wasn't really an impressive solo in comparison of what he cán do.

  • if you knew anything about playing guitar youd know that what you just said made absolutley no sense

  • He obviously isnt the "best guitarist" going by what most people think is great: speed, technique, ect....but there is defanately no one else like him, and when you hear a U2 song you know it, not b/c of bono but because of the guitar in the background.

  • Edge is one of the best guitarists because of him being so unique. no one will ever be able to match his sounds and effects.

  • I am not impressed with his phrasing. This tone is nothing special. David Gilmour used those effects long before him. Yes, speed and technique don't govern your rating but phrasing very well does. Sorry all u2 fans, just my opinion.

  • I am not impressed with your mom's pussy lips. Have I heard of you? No. Edge is a monster and always has been. Gilmour sucks.

  • It's people like you olbigdik that make me embarrassed to be a U2 fan sometimes. I've NEVER been embarrassed of the band, but there are tons of IGNORANT U2 fans CAN'T DEAL WITH THE FACT THAT ADAM, LARRY, BONO, AND EDGE AREN'T THE PEAK OF PERFECTION. U2's magic comes from four flawed musicians who individually aren't as amazing as they are when they combine those flaws and make something special that's unlike anything anyone has ever heard before.

And a vagina joke?? Seriously??? Really classy...

  • agreed. olbigdik i wouldnt be surprised either if you were one of these 'fans' who own just the greatest hits albums.

  • I'm a tremendous U2 fan. Edge is one of my musical idols. That being said, I think you're absolutely right buriedmybone. His strength is NOT in the "crazy shred stuff" or even in the blues based soloing. I mean, he's good enough at it, but he's much more of a "melodic rhythm" player than a lead guitarist. He does some things INCREDIBLY well, but blues based soloing (like this) isn't one of them.

  • Speed? Technique? Today's guitar is all about heart. Little chinese kids have speed and technique. None of the great guitarists you've ever heard of have less that 100% music in their hearts otherwise they'd just get run down. Skillful guitarists everywhere, but only some can make it big.

  • he didn't use the slide in all of the tours except in rattle and hum

  • Dave Evans is easily one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

  • Bill Bailey's the shittest comedian ever, he needs light effects, sound machines, and various props to make his show funny.

You could say he's a comedy version of The Edge?

  • yeah and i suppose the so called edge dosent bill bailey is a funny man

  • Billy Connolly needs a stool with a pint of Guiness on.

    That's stand up comedy....

  • amazing

  • I was there for this. Wish I could go again this week! This solo was one of the best moments of the

whole show, if you ask me. Awesome, and very unlike

The Edge's usual style. There a full version

of this from a Mexico '06 show somewhere

on youtube. Shows him using the slide in the

    closeups prior to the solo.

  • mmmmmm yeah ñam ñam

come over here you little guitar solo

    yeah come with daddy
