  • nice video, and I love the music that goes with the video. whats the name of the song. does anyone know the song. I would love to know. thanks in advance for the info on the song.

  • how deep was that depth????????

  • @mikegoddard22 That was 3 years ago Mike. Normally I put the depth in the video...I'm going to say around 25 feet if memory serves me right.

  • toooooooooooo fast

  • Hello! Have you ever tried - H Be Gone (just google it)? Quite a few people are hearing super things about it and my cousin at very last said good bye to pretty bad piles with it.

  • DAMN!!!!

  • that stinks you could spend a whole day there and just catch a boat load of flatheads

you could go down there and noodle them

  • did you try to catch any on rod and reel

i would just drop a bluegill down there with a circle hook in its back

  • @madfishinskillz There's more videos that cover that too. One called Flatheads and Shad. We used a dead shad and wiped it all over the nose for a dormant flathead. Best we could get was a big one to look about 3/4 through the video. Then there's the Flathead and sucker. We used a live sucker and couldn't get one to bite either.

When the water temp is below 40 degrees, they just don't seem to want to eat.

  • oh my god what lake is that?

    is that a private/stocked pond

there are some moby dicks in there

  • @madfishinskillz Pool 4 of the Mississippi River in Jan/Feb cleans up pretty good for camera work. These are as wild as wild can get. LOL!

  • theyre probably spawning.. thats why the camera is able to get close and also a good reason they are all grouped up in the middle of summer

  • theyre probably spawning.. thats why the camera is able to get close and also a good reason they are all grouped up in the middle of summer

  • @bigjoe45723 This video was taken on the Mississippi River in the winter. Generally flathead catfish are more solitary in the summer months and very aggressive to other living things during spawn. In the winter they become dormant sort of like a bear hibernating, but dormant is a better description.

  • fyi those are channel cats flat head dont shool up an those cats had spots

  • @liltweety980 So the 30 and 40 pounders at the bottom of the frame starting about 45 seconds are channel cats? LOL! World Record!!!

I should have named this video Piles of Flatheads and some channels swimming around! LOL!

  • @liltweety980 Watch the whole video. :-)

  • dame thats what you call a honey hole for catfishing

  • i feel like trying to go catch me a monster yellacat now

  • wow, that is so awesome...

  • does anyone know the name of the tune playing in the video.

  • awesome video!

I'm moving to MN next summer, I might just have to become a catfish fisherman after seeing this video.

  • Exceptional. U Rarely get that quality Vis. Very Nice. Looks like that Marcam is also good. i will consider that for my next cam. im looking at several off brands that are now comming out.

my flathead vids dont do justice, compared to yours.

also i would mention, in one point there is one realy large flatie that you barely see that was under a log. looks like a monster.

  • @WeaponsEnthusiast they all could be huddling together like that for many reasons, not all of which i can list\

    1. it could be that that type of structure atracts those fish to that location

    2. catfish vinnie barile is throwing a party

    3. the catfish feel saftey in numbers

    4. all of the catfish in that area exude a great amount of warmth, therfore encouraging the catfish to huddle together

    Or 5. its an orgy

hope that helped(except for 2 and five, those were just for kicks

  • i take that back. it appears that every catfish in the video from 3:38 on is a flathead. note the even vertical tail fin edge, large lower jaw&mottled skin

  • the catfish in the frame around 2:20 (the one facing towards the camera, is indeed a flathead catfish. that brings my total tally up to a grand total of one.

  • No wonder I didn't catch any catfish a few weeks ago...they were all doing that.

  • awesome shit this is actually what the flatheads do in lakes to paylakes ect when its cold as water warms in spring they move more actively .how deep is the water where u filmed this.oh the channels are active ,i have always wanted to see this under water stuff thank u

  • i would like to see that in person... dive down there

  • i love seeing fish in there element

  • Must be a catfish farm. Those are not flatheads, but channel catfish.

  • YOU DUMBASS! MOST OF THE CATS IN THE VIDEO ARE CHANNEL CATS. YOU CAN TELL BY THEIR FINS AND SPOTS.

  • @81luckyjb

You my friend are looking at the catfish that are swimming. Flatheads go dormant in the winter and all the BIG fish on the bottom are the flatheads. See? I didn't even have to call you names! :-)

  • @idacatguides the answer is never just calling them names- you need a much more vast index of verbal lashings.

  • @81luckyjb could be, but the large catfish in the structure in the latter half of the video have protruding lower lips, like a flathead. some of those, however, may be channel cats. i've yet to see a reason the two couldnt co-exist.

  • great video cant wait to dive around my place in the winter. I've been seeing alot but nothing like this. Wow

  • how exactly does one film this lol?

  • @Mikethemagicman13

Marcum makes the 825c color camera (most people think it's for ice fishing) and a DV recorder with a VIDEO IN port. Find some fish and start recording. It's as simple at that!

  • @Mikethemagicman13

could there be a possibility that this camera is fixed to an actual fish? it sounds crazy, but notice how the other fish dont avoid the camera, and how the camera is moving quickly through the water, and side to side a certain points. any thoughts on that?

  • @WatchfulLxHand That's a great idea! Big fish, big camera that would stream video to the internet!

Then I wouldn't have to sit out there in the boat and the cold! LOL!

  • @idacatguides sorry, didnt mean to offend

  • @WatchfulLxHand No offense talking Sir!

  • i would drop a line right there for the channels bcs i dought one of the flatheads r going to hit

  • When the water temp is below 40 F, Flathead catfish go into a dormant state and congregate in area of low current. They call this areas Wintering Holes.

  • Where was this filmed. I am an avid catfisherman. Mostly channel cats on the Red River In Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. Thanks For te video.

  • Pool 4 of the Mississippi River out of Everts Fishing Resort. It's near Red Wing MN. Love the Cats of the Red!

  • Wow... dozens of state record size fish. I bet they wouldn't even hit a piece of cut bait if it was perfectly placed.

  • every cat fishermans dream.

  • WOW!!!!

  • dam fat flatheads thier lazy :p

  • y were the flatheads stacked up like that? cuz the water was so cold, maybe?

  • Flatheads go "dormant" as the water temps drop. Most feel that 45 degrees is the temp to stop fishing for them as the seldom if ever bite at temps below that. Many catch them by accident, some intentionally by snagging them. It wouldn't take long to ruin a fishery by targeting spots like what are in this video.

  • o i didnt know they did that. thanks for the info man keep up the good work

  • Very nice. Thanks.

  • Sensacional. Parabéns.

  • Obrigado, pare de novo!

  • Well to answer a few question here...finally.

There aren't any Blue Cats in the video. This was taken in the Mississippi River near Red Wing, MN. Channels and flatheads are the only cats shown.

A Marcum 825c color under water camera was used to see under water. (It was made for ice fishing)

  • By "blues" I meant the music, not the cats! ;-)

  • LOL! Gotcha!

  • The water temps was around 34 F if I recall, so I wasn't too inclinde to jump in there to see if I could step on them....LOL!

The school of channels at the beginning of the video were about 6 inches long, young ones. I was as surprised as anyone to see such a large number.

I don't even take a fishing rod along when I take the camera out....to much fun!!

  • wow kewl video were u actually in the water

  • this is easily my alltime favorite video on youtube. This would be the time of my life if i could do this! :-)

  • hey very nice videos! could yo step on the flathead's head without them movng?!

  • great video! great quality ! its interesting how the blues are much more active compared to the flatheads!

  • damn thos are huge as hell

  • Awesone video for sure.

  • Catfish and blues!Great clear footage.

  • Man that is awesome I want one of those.

  • Holy crap thats a big school of channels right at the beginning. Awesome video!

  • BK, I knew you were here somewhere lol! Great shots Man! Too bad you can't see um that good in the summer.

  • If the water was this clear during the summer we would be seeing flats chomping on bullheads!

  • Sweet Vid Mate! Took some time to track you here! Your getting better at flying under the Radar!! :)

  • Come on Larry, posted by idacatguides??

Never thought a catfisherman could use a camera huh!??

Ricky, that pool 4 of the Mississippi River..near Redwing MN...We launched out of Everts Fishing Resort.

I wish I could post the 3.5 gig video I made!

  • my gosh where in the world was this at. Flatheads are stacked up on top of each other!!My most favorite fish to catch.

  • sorry some are flatheads my bad :)

  • I've had a lot of people think "he doesn't know his fish!". LOL!

Just goes to show you were paying attention! :)

  • tjose are channel cats

  • You rock! Thanks for documenting these winter cats.

  • that cam is awesome. especially if you see that clear in the muddy Mississippi
