If you ask me, the kid did what he had to do, that's all there was to it. If someone came into your house, and attacked you, and you had a weapon, you know you'd use it too. Every other time I knew what to expect and was ready to think think fast. But true some people are unable of thinking fast and it slows them down, just like people who freeze right before car are about to run them over instead of jumping away. experience with such things counts alot.
Still, a story like this video is better then a story of another teen being murdered. He chose to react instead of think, and it might have been the thing that saved his life.

@ProudFinn1 katanas are my favorite, and its awesome how they can cut bullets, i actually watched a modern day samurai deflect and slice bullets fired at him before.

Sure the katana is a Japanese sword, but its design and construction originated in China, like many things Japanese. The way you talk about the katana suggests that its the ultimate sword. Instead of getting your information from video games or anime, go read reputable books and documents.
Hey buddy, "katana" is just the generic name for "sword" in Japanese. It's so generic that you'll sometimes hear it called "nihon katana," which just would mean "Japanese sword." Then there's "tachi" which, don't get excited, is about equivalent to "long sword." And it's the sword most people associate with samurai. It's not too good to be called "samurai sword" since it's reasonably accurate. They were swords used by samurai.
For all those stuck up twonks saying they're called "katanas" your wrong, katana is a type of sub-category of the Japanese sword family. It could of been a wakizashi or some otter kind. Samurais carried 3 or more different blades usually, because of the danger of the blade breaking. BTW china invented the concept of folding blades, which led to this family of weapons, China beats the shit out of Japan in ancient technology.

Guy might have wanted a kill but atleast he did so with justification, I can't blame him for killing as the person was a robber. However taking the man's hand first shows he could have let him live as after the hand he sliced his chest open, killer instinct but kind of blood thirsty.
Once you remoce a limb like a hand the attacker is no longer much of a threat and could have been spared, just saying he had an option not to kill the guy. I would have killed as well though just to be sure.

i have a katana at home, and i have thought about what if someone breaks in. i usually take it with me if im investigating something. i always figure cutting off their hand would be enough.
but a little heads up about killing someone with a katana. its easy but not that easy, not the way he did it. to cut through a hand like that you have to swing with intent. he wasnt a novice he knew what he was doing. you have to swing not just to slash but to cut, you dont accidentally cut through bone.
If a katana is sharp enough, one cut could kill you. It depends on where you are hit: if there is an artery or large blood vessel it would bleed out the person.
One cut to the neck from a katana and your gone, likewise for a chest stab.

Not just because confrontation is dangerous, but murder cases are investigated a bit more thoroughly than burglaries. In other words, if I EXPECTED to be attacked, I wouldn't break in in the first place. And I am not defending the burglar as such: I am merely not defending the home owner.

it's not cool to kill anyone, if someone attacked me unarmed, I would fight him ... if someone attacked me with a deadly weapon I'd run if I'm sure that I can get away. If someone attacked me with deadly weapon and I'm not sure that I can run away intact I'll try to disarm or disable him and if that doesn't go well then I'd pretty much have to kill him. -Keep this in mind yourself. Fast thinking is crucial.

Every other time I knew what to expect and was ready to think think fast. But true some people are unable of thinking fast and it slows them down, just like people who freeze right before car are about to run them over instead of jumping away. experience with such things counts alot.

It is abrieviated, as a Katana. It's not called a Samurai Sword. That's it's alternative name. The weapon beleived, to have a soul, of its own. it is a huge dishonorment. @ProudFinn1 Looks like you need to do some research into Chinese swords. Many were incredibly sharp. Keep in mind that the shape of the blade has NOTHING to do with the sharpness of the edge. Sure the katana is a Japanese sword, but its design and construction originated in China, like many things Japanese. The way you talk about the katana suggests that its the ultimate sword. Instead of getting your information from video games or anime, go read reputable books and documents.

Hey buddy, "katana" is just the generic name for "sword" in Japanese. It's so generic that you'll sometimes hear it called "nihon katana," which just would mean "Japanese sword." Then there's "tachi" which, don't get excited, is about equivalent to "long sword." And it's the sword most people associate with samurai. It's not too good to be called "samurai sword" since it's reasonably accurate. They were swords used by samurai.

For all those stuck up twonks saying they're called "katanas" your wrong, katana is a type of sub-category of the Japanese sword family. It could of been a wakizashi or some otter kind. Samurais carried 3 or more different blades usually, because of the danger of the blade breaking. BTW china invented the concept of folding blades, which led to this family of weapons, China beats the shit out of Japan in ancient technology.

Guy might have wanted a kill but atleast he did so with justification, I can't blame him for killing as the person was a robber. However taking the man's hand first shows he could have let him live as after the hand he sliced his chest open, killer instinct but kind of blood thirsty.
Once you remoce a limb like a hand the attacker is no longer much of a threat and could have been spared, just saying he had an option not to kill the guy. I would have killed as well though just to be sure.

@Offworlder1 Emm.. I think you miss it. The hand was most likely in the way of the primary cut. Even some of the less expensive swords on the market nowadays are plenty "capable". What the kid did was the equivalent of going through about 3 tatami mats.. not really even an advanced cut.
Depending on the where and when of it.. you could easily take an arm and cut all the way to the sternum/spine with one cut.

i have a katana at home, and i have thought about what if someone breaks in. i usually take it with me if im investigating something. i always figure cutting off their hand would be enough.
but a little heads up about killing someone with a katana. its easy but not that easy, not the way he did it. to cut through a hand like that you have to swing with intent. he wasnt a novice he knew what he was doing. you have to swing not just to slash but to cut, you dont accidentally cut through bone.

If a katana is sharp enough, one cut could kill you. It depends on where you are hit: if there is an artery or large blood vessel it would bleed out the person.
One cut to the neck from a katana and your gone, likewise for a chest stab.
