Want a bad screw up, try Home Alone 4. They tried an (sequel? Interquel?) for Home Alone 1 and 2, and they just failed in every sense. Different cast, cheesy acting, continuity confusion, and character/story elements has been tinkered and clusterfucked.
To quote the original Marv Daniel Stern, "An insult, total garbage".
Once again, critic, you have mistaken "banal coincidence" for "irony". What? Were you born in the 80s? Irony implies contrariness, antithesis, and opposite. How is a toy race car the antithesis of a toy race car? I-raw-knee. 3 syllables, big word.
all the times i've seen this film, I never realized that the mother is played by the same actress as the snobby blonde chick who Anthony Michael Hall's nerd character ends up with in Sixteen Candles.
I've never seen "Home Alone 3", but had seen "Home Alone 4"... OH GOD, IS THE LATTER BAD. VERY, VERY BAD. REVIEW THIS! (oh wait, I have to go to his website to request this!)
As soon as Culkin got to old to play little Kevin, they tried to replace and it didn't work. THEY ARE NOT THE HOME ALONE KIDS. ONLY MACAULAY CULKIN CAN BE THE HOME ALONE KID.
oh yea, i do have nostalgia to Home Alone 3, actually i used to watch it live every other day like age 6-8 and sang the soundtrack along with it. but ttteeeehhhh, when i watched at about 13, i realized... u know... actually, come to think of it now, i can't help but remember disney's Blank Check
not to push matters EVEN WORSE, but, HOME ALONE FUCKING 4?!!
@22mrstarwars Oh, god. There was. And it made THIS movie seem like fucking Citizen Kane!!! Home Alone 4 takes place in a high-tech super house and... well, fuck. I just told you all you need to know there.
No, wait. I haven't. French Stewart is one of the bad guys. THAT'S enough.
No, no. Wait. It's not. The kid in the story is a dark-haired brat that they actually call KEVIN MCCALISTER!!! They actually try to make this part of the original storyline!!!
I never understood why police cars have sirens, fair enough when chasing cars it's a signal for everybody else to move out the way, but are they actually stupid enough to blare their sirens when coming up to a house raid? They might as well have a megaphone and shout "Even though we are giving you ample time to hide or escape by broadcasting our approach, we still expect you to put your hands behind your back, are you ready? Are you sure? Ok here we come ready or not!"
I went to the store last month to replace my old VHS copy of "Home Alone", and to finally get a copy of "Home Alone: 2". After searching through the WHOLE store trying to find these films (only to watch a sales clerk pick it out instantly in the least obvious location ever---and this is at CHRISTMAS time, "Home Alone" should have been easy to find), it turns out the only thing they had was a box set of all FOUR films. *sigh* Oh well. Maybe some hapless child won't mind these "slapshit" sequels.
Ok the traps are there again, but they are different and more ingenious. To think the kid could pull off what he did at home but miles away in New York where he is in an unfamiliar surrounding and do it even better!!! Plus Home Alone 2 had some emotional scenes that the first film couldn't even get close to...and the christmas spirit is way bigger as well. God dammit Home Alone 2 was not just the first film made all over again, there was so much more to it than that....
@satmandoo part two: also, you say this as if I said that was a bad thing. i actually like Home Alone 2, but 3 was not really as clever as 1 and 2, even if 3 was the most strategic, or plot controlled, trap layout sequence of the series, and 4 is just absolutely weak entirely.
@satmandoo Dude, Chill. Its YouTube, just YouTube...,not the academy awards
THEY ARE JUST MOVIES PEOPLE!! First was memorable, second more of the same in a different setting, third...well less said about that the better.as for 4, Im gonna continue believing its an urban myth...My mind cant conceive it as 'real'
Wow I summed it up in 3 lines as opposed to 3 paragraphs, yeah you raise a few good points but doesnt justify an essay on it...
and in the second film..he's actually going out of his way to save a toy store and subsequently a children's hospice of being robbed out of god knows how much money. It's not just, must defend me and my home, it's about doing a good deed and saving christmas for all these kids...and that's the SAME DAM MOVIE????
Could someone explain what he ment on 06:45 - 06:56 ? My clue that he's trying to make a joke about him been a smarty kid. Yh, i know, i sound abit stupid right there.
I actually enjoyed Home Alone II and Baby's Day Out, but mostly because they were thoughtless yet meaningful movies. It was...just okay enough to find enjoyment. But Home Alone 3? OMG looking at the COVER made me wanna just...barf...and a fourth one? OMG! =shoots self in head= WHY?!
@satmandoo it was practically the same movie. though 3 isnt that good. 4 was horrible. it made this movie look like the first Home Alone (it's that awful)
@aceorduece Yeah I know, I saw Home Alone 4. But you just said exactly what I hate about when people describe Home Alone 2. It wasn't practically the same dam movie. A kid lost in NEW YORK CITY, ONE OF THE LARGEST IN THE WORLD is a much bigger and more frightening situation for the kid to be in. That is a dam sight different to being left at home. And plus there's all the stuff in the hotel (the concierge being like a secondary antagonist) and the whole thing with the toy store...
@satmandoo im sorry you feel that way, but from what i can see, the villians are the same, the plot is the same, the reason Kevin was left is the same, n the conclusion. the only difference that I should have included in my comment was that is had more of a Christmas based plot to it. but even then he was trying to save the neighborhood in the 1st one, not just himself, just as he did in the 2nd one. when it come to trap layout, 2 was more painful, but 1 had better probability. it was the same.
I would arm myself with my rifle. Not a sniper rifle, but if you must kill killers, you could hit them with a tank of nitrogen inside a fridge and let their blood drip on strawberries for all I care.
@Schachmills Home Alone 4..... a dark time in the history of cinema (if you can call it a part of cinema) Dear God, what did we do to deserve Home Alone 4?? (SHUDDER)
HEY WHOA...i loved this movie to death when i was a kid.i remember this so well i could play the whole thing in my head in my sleep, because that's where i rewatch most of my favorite movies anyway. the best part of this movie was the parrot, he was, by textbook definition, a 'magnificent bastard' for all the right reasons
"oooh, you wanna buy a little silence? double or nothing"
@chappy Yeah, he should. Home Alone 4 was a living hell for me to watch. I cried after seeing that movie, because they really ran that series down down to the ground. :(
Fox has milked the Home Alone liscense and I don't know how long Warner Bros. is going to keep on milking the Scooby Doo liscense as well. Entertainment is gone for good.
@happyfa5 i know what you mean and how you feel if you ask me . the best embodiment of scooby doo was the original 60's series . and second is a pup named scooby doo .
@vadarman9906 He's a critic, you know, not just a fan. The fans liked Home Alone 2 for being more of the same, but a little tad more. The critics hated the movie for being a clone of the first one and possibly too cartoony.
Parents are supposed to protect their kids from things like sticking their fingers in electrical sockets, drinking bleach, running out in the street, and watching Disney sequels.
@FishlipsMalone I do have to admit that Home Alone 3 didn't fit the franchise, but I like the different turn they took. Instead of two burglars these are meant to be spies with a bit of self-respect getting all humiliated repeatedly by a kid.
I didn't see Home Alone 4, but as far as I know it sucked so bad and they made so many mistakes in the movie it was almost as if they did it on purpose.
Actually, Home Alone 2 was actually good. I see how the franchise is dying off when watching the third one, but the fourth one you should review, it is god awful and killed the franchise completely.
The movie sux, but you have to admit, Alex is pretty smart.

You WATCHED it?
What kind of parents did you HAVE?
Parents are supposed to protect their kids from things like sticking their fingers in electrical sockets, drinking bleach, running out in the street, and watching Disney sequels.

Home alone 1: CLASSIC slapstick comedy , can watch it anyday :)
Home alone 2: seen that the most as a kid, lovely movie, still wild good ol' little culkin :)
Home alone 3:WHO THE FUCK IS THAT KID, THE HELL WITH HIS PARENTS,
soo horrible, it killed the francise
Home alone 4: GOD!!!!!relieve me plz, the pain
saying this movie sucks is equal to give credit to it, its BELOW THAT

@FishlipsMalone I do have to admit that Home Alone 3 didn't fit the franchise, but I like the different turn they took. Instead of two burglars these are meant to be spies with a bit of self-respect getting all humiliated repeatedly by a kid.
I didn't see Home Alone 4, but as far as I know it sucked so bad and they made so many mistakes in the movie it was almost as if they did it on purpose.

@DrsJacksonn Home alone 4 sucks so bad it's actually funny. But I wouldn't even bother watching it if I were you.

OH NO the movie features an all white cast!, the horrors

Actually, Home Alone 2 was actually good. I see how the franchise is dying off when watching the third one, but the fourth one you should review, it is god awful and killed the franchise completely.
