  • In my eyes the CTS-V is a cheap alternative to the already established sport saloons out there. Admitedly what it lacks in prestige it makes up in performance but let us not forget that they set out to beat the m5 which is the only reason it does (shamefully so given that it brought a gun to a knife fight engine wise).

Cadillac doesnt "need" to supercharge its v8 to compete with other v8s or v10, they CHOOSE to because it makes sense from a production and cost standpoint. They could easily produce a V8 with more displacement, but why? MPG would suffer. The government is forcing their hand with the new CAFE standards. By the way, the new M5 will be turbocharged, lower displacement.. does that make BMW stupid too? Go read some mags and raise your car IQ.

  • While Caddy beated the M5 with simple technology, it's engine may end up being more complex later on due to the performance wars and environmental regulations. So, it's going to have to go through BMW's, Audi's, and MB's ordeals of unreliability to stay competitive.

  • I like the CTS-V but the American guy is overrating it. I test drove one of these because of my job. it is quick BUT: it is too expensive, too big to go through NY traffic in the morning, the clutch is too hard, the gearbox is too heavy and the ride's rubbish. So what's left? a quick Cadillac that surprisingly handles very well. It's very good for an american businessman to go to his office everyday but the best 4 door sport saloon that i've ever driven is the Porsche Panamera Turbo.

  • let me remind you that the new 4.4 liter twin turbo v is not very impressive and the top end is surprisngly slow, the new f10 chasis is much heavier and longer than the current e60 this is fact. so with a new body m5 u won't see much improvement over 0-60 times or 1/4 mile , if any at all.

    I like the ZR1 sedan, but the C-Class being imported and still less, is a pretty big achievement.

    There is no hope for BMW. Their V10 sedan may be the most dependable car you ever buy, but it is also slower than any other performance sedan BY FAR.

  • I can't believe that GM got rid of the internal performance group that put this the zr-1 and cobalt ss together. I've read that many of the them are working else where in the company. And if I remember correctly GM did this prior to the government buyout.

  • I'm not sure they make much money with the ZR1 considering that it has the same brakes as a Ferrari FXX (they cost about 15 grand to replace...), the limited slip has carbon plates, their suspension is pretty high end, there are carbon fiber panels in its body

  • Caes like the ZR1 and the CTS-V are "halo" cars. They are designed to raise brand awareness and lure customers into the showroom, where most of them will end up buying a lower-end version (Std C6 or 3.6l CTS).

    Halo cars are never expected to make a profit.

Closely observe the video at 2:09, traction control seems to be on, you can hear the car dies dowm after the small chirp. And the C63 is proven to be an oversteer monster. Shame on Insideline!

  • The thing about the CTS-V, both this and the last one, is that it is always playing catch-up. The M5 was introduced in 2005, so it is 4 year technology. The Caddy is a 2009. I think the new M5 will be out next year and I am willing to bet it will smash the Caddy. Then in 5 years, if Cadilac still exists, it will be able to beat the M5. Just in time for the new M5! Cadilac needs to lead, not follow, if they want to be the best.

  • the cts-v aint playing catchup, the 1st gen V wasnt introduced until 2004, and it was caddys first attempt at a performance sedan. The m5 has been around since the mid 80s. Cadillac brought this one out, BEAT the current m5 and took the place as the best performance sedan. Especially for the money. NOW the new panamera turbo is out and from the tests ive seen its the new king. From your logic there will never be a clear cut winner because of the year certain models came out.

  • The logic is very simple. Cadillac waits til the M5 is at the end of its life cycle, then "beats" the old car. Mercedes (AMG), BMW (M) and Audi (S and RS) are generally in sync with each other. Their new versions come out at approximately the same time. For example the new RS6 and the new E63 came out this year and the new M5 arrives next year. It doesn't matter anyways because the European cars appeal to those who also enjoy quality materials, reliability and craftsmanship. To each their own.

And euro cars appeal to those who can afford them, at least the caddy is within arms reach for alot of ppl, plus its been said in numerous reviews that the new Vs quality is top notch.   • Cadillac's image has a long road ahead to climb. BMW has been known for sporty cars for the past 30 years and Cadillac just recently jumped in the game. It's great that Cadillac can produce a car of this caliber but the question remains can they sell it in any sort of meaningful quantity.   • actually its a modified GM tranny, retard. BMW uses its onw solinoids, syncros, etc. and GM tranny's always last waay longer than what u say. Vettes dont start having syncro problems untill well past 80k miles, CTS's go till around 100k, and all other hydormatic auto transmission go well past 120k-150k miles...i have worked at a Chevy dealership, i know.....so come up with another pointless excuse to say Euro is better than US b/c those dont work lol

    the resale value of german cars is less than japanese only because of there reliability. i have driven both american and Bmw cars in canada. i know it first hand. american cars do require trips to shops but they r very cheap to repair. BMWs on the other hand requires special shops mostly dealerships and costs a kidney every time.

    quality is good on bmws (newer ones) but reliability is NOT

  • This is sufficient like alot of M's reviews, the numbers reflect the drivers swiftness. the M5 has been proven to hit 60mph 4.1 and the quarter mile in 12.1. road and track, car and driver, remeber these are journalist, not formula one drivers. the videoes gives you a rough estimate, drivers are everything. The advantage to caddy and amg with auto's they simply floor it, the m testers seem to hold the first geat to long, my client says he can do 4.1 on his gutting it.

    Ever since 1991, Cadillac was trying to make a performance sedan that matched any euro car in it's class. I own a Cadillac Fleetwood V8 4.9L and trust me the interior is amazing the power was ok 200hp for that time. 17 years later Cadillac makes this CTS-V that beats out all euro cars that it competes with. I lived to see the day when BMW, and Mercedes got out performed by Cadillac. It's a must buy car.

  • Road and Track had a comparison of the M5 SMG and CTS-V manual, and the CTS-V came out being called the KING. They each used the best driver they had. Edmunds also calls the CTS-V the KING.

    So, the M5 is now the QUEEN. To all who say the CTS-V doesn't handle as good as the M5, check out the patented Magnetic Ride Control shocks derived from the ZR1 supercar. GM has a patent on this technology, so unless BMW has a patent on a quicker reacting shock, they'll come in 2nd. Hail to the KING!!

  • MRC shocks are what makes the CTS-V able to hold those corners weighing over 4,300 lbs, which weighs more than M5. The newer M3 weighs alot less than CTS-V, and still doesn't go through turns as fast.

    The CTS-v uses tech from the ZR1.The Porsche Panamera looks to trump them all actually, but if BMW F10 M5 is 0.2 faster here and 0.3 sec faster there, I wouldn't really call that being trump for the price difference.

    So you need to relax...or better yet "just wait until bmw makes a good car."

I mentioned the M3, because it's the best and most recent BMW effort. If their smaller car, which is known for its handling prowess, is beat by a bigger Cadillac, that's HUGE for Cadillac. Major win!!!

    The V division was stopped as a cost saving measure, but GM didn't let go of the talent that made up those teams.

  • Credit where credit is due..... that new CTS-V is a monster. I very close to buying a 2007 M5 but the smg is awful. I wanted a manual but (back then) you couldn't get one without a permanently active DSC system.

    I bet the next M5 will be more powerful than this 2009 CTS-V but the price difference will probably be enough to feed Rosie O'Donnell for 10 years.

  • Bmw is doing the exact same thing. The new M5 will be a 2011 model so they'll have to years to figure out how to beat the Caddy. I wouldnt get to overly excited either. They're not using the V10 anymore, they're going with a twin turbo V8 and early speculation is that the HP will be around 550. Last but not least there is the price difference. The current model M5 is 26 grand more than the CTS-V. The new M5 will be even more. You can do alot of mods for 26 grand. Hennessy offers a 650HP version.

  • carfreakkk, they have timed them on a track, it's called the Nurburgring, maybe you've heard of it. The CTS-V holds the record for production sedans at 7:59:32.

  • All those cars have more power than you need so unless you're going to race on track, arguing for splits of seconds in acceleration is a stupid thing that Cadillac's marketing experts want us to do.

    As a buyer I'd rather investigate the interior quality, susceptibility to technical faults, fuel consumption, NCAP stars and options pricing.

  • this car is so great, even jeremy clarkson says its better than an m5! i know he can be biased (usually against america) but he has unbelievably high standards, and when a car comes along he actually likes, you know it's great.

    unfortunately, a new m5 is coming out next year. i bet it'll be a v12 making around 600 horsepower, and would probably beat it round the nurburgring.

    but the cadillac is still great. however, alfa is making a 159 gta, which will have the 4.3L v8 from the ferrari 430

  • I didn't notice before but... in the other video, edmund said CTS-V does 0-60 in 3.9 sec, as it is in the website... Some stupid person told me edmund uses drag strip to make 0-60 time faster...? hm... how do you argue with that?

  • well, personally, i think if your gonna test something, you should test it to get the best numbers you can get from it. so to say something like that, is petty and has nothing to do with anything really.

  • true, but if u think about it...the engine in the CTS-V is just a de-tuned version of the ZR1's 6.2 liter supercharged V8. To keep up, all they really have to do is up the boost or remap the ECU for more power, re-tune the suspension, and maybe even add more rubber to handle the power. GM was very smart when building this new model CTS-V.

  • Funny thing is... Edmund has been pretty biased towards American cars. Some time before, it reviewed that Mustang was a better car than Rx8 and EVEN 350Z!!! Which is, as everybody knows, absolute rubbish. And recently, they said that ZR1 can beat GTR's performance. Again, wrong, altho this one's quite refutable.

  • LOL the ZR-1 beats easily the GTR, look at some reviews on the net asshole, and you will be better informed before saying that shit... The ZR-1 ran the Ring in 7"22"4, about 7 seconds faster than the GTR...

  • It's always the ring isn't it. Because of people like you, American car maker's management team decided to focus only on the ring. If you put them in a handling course, GTR beats hands down. Because the ring has many many straights, in which ZR1 will smoke GTR, mainly due to engine size diff.

  • u do realize that motor trend did a race between the GT-R, 911 GT2, 599 GTB, and the ZR1 around a different track with way more turns than straights, and a drag race too, right?

  • So, you're saying ZR1 is faster than GTR. That's fine. Cuz I don't care. What I'm trying to say is Edmund is biased, and I have proof. Why should they be biased in the first place? 1. cuz they're americans. 2. they wanna sell cars advertised in their website

  • Its the same way with Top Gear, they're biased too. They think that Euro cars are the ultimate cars that can never be beaten by anything other than another Euro car, and i have proof as well.

  • I agree. Topgear hates American cars. But they don't rig numbers or lie. And edmund is supposedly known to many people as a "reliable" source of car reviews, while topgear as an entertainment show. It's messed up that edmund is trying to make other people believe in their rigged numbers and biased reviews.

  • actually, not all numbers they post are rigged. the times depend on the driver, and different drivers are going to put up different times, as well as the fact that different reviewers will probably use different equipment as well. but i dont believe that they are lies, personally until there is proper proof

  • This one review I found was way off. Comparison btw 350Z, mustang, rx8. First off, they said rx8 0-60 time was 7 sec. There's no way they could've gotten that number unless they rigged it. Second, mustang won that comparison. I know mustang has its own merits as a proper American muscle car. But honestly, is it really... really better than rx8 and 350z?

  • lol yeah i agree, the 350z is a better car than the Mustang in all areas. Its quicker through the 1/4, lighter, handles WAY better, and looks WAY better too lol. And the RX8 is not as fast or powerful, but it handlesa million times better and has near perfect 50/50 weight distribution, and is WAAAYYY lighter and looks much better in my opinion.

  • Some retards told me that edmund's time was generally faster than the car company's website, because edmund use drag strip. Hell, if I didn't know that. What about rx8?? Mazda website says around 6! In that review they didn't even bother putting up exact numbers for mustang. It just said in the end, Mustang comes on top. WTF?
