OK, when I first saw this movie I hated it. I thought it was the worst, most incoherent pile of pretentious nonsense I'd ever seen. However, I saw it again on TV recently and I realised I was so, so wrong. In fact I was so wrong I've just bought the DVD. I don't know how to describe it. In fact that's a similar sentiment to what Jackman himself said in an interview: it just "connected" with me somehow.
When a film can bring you to tears, and you're not quite sure why... Is truly a beautiful thing. I have a feeling this movie will stand the test of time.
If you like this Music I suggest you listen to "Isis" particularly the album "Oceanic" it will make you think and feel like you are lost in the middle of the ocean somwhere with absolutley no worries!

-The Conquistador story line was fictional, created by Abby and represented Tommy's foolhardy attempt at "discoverying" the cure for death. It was symbolic of Tommy's scientific nature.
-The future Tommy represented his spiritual side, struggling to come to terms with death. The future and present story arcs were taking place simultaneously, and were directly affected by the other.

In the scene where Xibalba explodes and consumes Tommy it's showing 2 things
1) The tree (Abby) has died, and he must now continue this journey on his own
2) The consuming explosion of Xibalba used his matter (symbolically of course) to continue "Life" elsewhere (as was represented by the tree "sprouting" to life again)
Once he realizes that death is not an end but a continuation of life, he plants the seed over Abby's grave. Therefore she can live on as a "part" of the tree.
No. The music helps boost the effect of the movie, it's story and it's emotion. Without it yes, probably the movie wouldn't be so good. But that certainly doesn't mean that it wouldn't be the good movie it will always remain.
