  • what about Am hammer-on, or is that for us more advanced players?

I would like to say your lessons are helpful for beginers but is a bit lacking for some of us, and i mean offance at all, once again props and its tuned to 430 pitch on a cromatic tuner.

  • Thank you so much man!!!

  • Great video dude..I was just wondering whats the speed you use on the metronome?

  • That was excellent lesson on the rhythm of that song! Thank you

  • why are you so rude?

  • i think its more because somebody thins it sounds better in another tune?!

  • hey man great vid! you're like the everyman guitar dude! nice

  • this helped a lot, thanks (:

    your guitar sounds amazing.

  • hey man your really helpful, i was wondering if you would give a lesson on how to play you dont know how it feels by the great tom petty step by step?

  • Strum closer to the bridge to get the correct sound. You don't need to tune it down or anything.

What you need to do will be play the chords clearer instead of very big strums but closer to the bridge and play it on a electric and it sounds EXACTLY like the album version. Unless you don't like sounding "perfect" or anything.

  • @tompetty1976 Right on man, got the perfect sound right at the base of the bridge

  • @sniperpeeps Your welcome. I could never play the song and I never really tried even though I am a Petty buff. I was playing one day and I accidentally played close to the bridge and I said, "that sounds like Marjy lanes last dance!" so I got out my TP songbook and was playing it instantly and when I see covers of it on youtube they always do not sound right, so I spread the word about the Bridge strumming.

  • I play this song with a capo on the first fret to get that higher pitched sound instead of tuning it down a bit.

  • This shit had me wanting to throw my guitar around when I first learned this song a few years ago. But it wasn't untill a joint and a beer later that I had to adjust to a semitone instead of a half step. Glad you mention that.

  • I love the way you played this song and could listen to you play it all day.I am a beginer and like watching your videos you interpret the best i have seen yet and yes im a kiddie im 26 and Picked up a guitar about a month ago.

  • thanks a ton for the vid man. helped alot. lol that 2 hours of trying to work through the tabs was worthless. but here i picked it up in under 10 minutes. thanks!

  • thank's your the best:)

  • What a God send man :) I hope google is paying you for these gems. I like how you break it all down and make it simple

  • Help me

  • Help

  • i love this song

  • What type of strings do you use?

  • Depends on the sound I want.

  • how do u strum

  • @lilroofis

Move your arm up and down with pick in hand...

Just kidding, see my strumming vid under the theory and dexterity playlist on my homepage.

  • i've said this before, and i'll say it again, you rule, man

  • Actually, he is correct. Last Dance was played in standard tuning and sped up. It's actually about 1/4 step up from standard.

  • how do you strum ;(?

  • Dude, you should know that they are just tuned a half step low. They do this because it sounds better and it makes it easier to sing. Lots of pros tune a half step down, the strings are loser and it gives a little different sound.

  • He is tuned in A 430 instead of 440. which is a common blues tuning

  • @bottlecap33

is it the same as a half step down?

  • @joshmcconnell654

Yes it is the same thing

  • Love you and your videos. Watched this one a thousand times and still can't figure out the slide up and down you do from G to Am. Please help!

  • i bought his ebook and for real guys you should buy it, it really helped and it's really nice. it's cheap and he deserves it taking all of his time making videos for us

  • love your lessons, you have taught me alot. I dont feel like im stuck ty

  • Ah, finally a song that i know and like!

This is the first time that I saw a song that I knew in the video title, but looking back I know most of the songs that you have gone over. The problem has always been that you start your videos with "Guitar lessons" which cuts out a lot of the song title afterward. Some titles say "introduction to" as well and I cant see the title at all.

You should put the song name first :)

Anyways, Great video. Any chance of their ever being any queen songs here?

  • mate - you're a legend! I've been learning from your videos and a couple of books for the last few months... had my first lesson today and my teacher was well impressed... keep up the good work my man

  • I supported E's cats! you can too!

get the E-book kids/ old people

  • Nice lesson!

How do you do that at 6:16? Sounds very cool ^^

  • Tom Petty is the best!

  • haha that sounds like an avril lavigne song

  • Good one.

    Jacob.

  • its like a quarter step off, which was probably because something was out of tune when it was recorded, most likely the guitar.

it could be because of the vocal being in a range that isn't comfortable for tom to sing in, but that's less likely.

  • am- g major - d major? - em - A major?

  • Im your #1 fan :]

  • Can you teach I Walk the Line by Johnny Cash, I'm a huge Johnny cash fan and it be cool to play this song. Thanks

  • there are many adults are watching are learning. PLZ dont use the word KIDS

  • How about old people then?

  • Well i Am 26 n my other friend is 30 n we are still learning

  • LOL :)

or how about 'fogies' (pronounced foe gees) then? (I can say this as i'm one myself, but will always be a kid at heart)

  • @syetab The video then, is clearly focused to the audience of young goats.

  • GET THE E-BOOK! your playing will go through the roof!

  • Its actually "mary janes last dance"

  • Thanks friend. Updated!

  • great tutorial! Thanks :)

  • Chili Peppers- my favorite band btw- ripped this for Dani California intro, but it's a pretty common chord progression, so I guess I gotta cut them some slack.
