Is that an Opinel #7 I see?. Got one myself - lovely knife.
The lock is an issue tho - stupidly it's seen as a fixed blade knife in (UK) law so only legally carryable "with good reason" - may be an issue if you're ever in a position where you're liable to being searched... train and underground stations especially.
On the safe side, get something with a spring to hold it open like you see on swiss army knives. I like the Le Tiers "Compact" but it's not as cheap as the Opinel.
@thirteenfingers . What a bizarre coincidence. The day before I got your message/comment I was in Sarlat in the Dordoigne region of France and my son and I were buying him his first Opinel knife, which if course you can buy in France with no problems. And then, when I checked my emails the next day I had a comment form you, all about Opinel knives. How absurdly coincidental.
I've been a few places where they sell Opinel knives around here (Manchester and Lake District) but they all have size 6 and up which have the locking ring and the tiny keyring one, which is tiny. The thing I don't seem to be able to find so easily is the size 5 which is small enough to count as a legal pocket knife (and being non-locking you don't fall foul of the STUPID rule against locks for everyday carry).
For me I will rather buy food from outside the hotel. I tried it once when I had a vacation in the Philippines; Me and my family buy fried chicken at a cheap roadside eatery and rice. Plus cola from a variety store beside the hotel( cheap indeed). We can had a full meal without blowing your cash!!
I am going to try this as a meal, tonight. Though I have access to a full kitchen, I am going to attempt to recreate your method in hopes of better understanding it so I can adapt it.
I didn't catch what was in the bag at first; I thought you were making your own tortellini pasta! Fresh muffins alone would be worth all the trouble. I wonder if you had grabbed a bit of tin foil to place over between flips would have helped.
I noticed that you used fresh parmesan in a block, not a bag. So often fresh parmesan alone can make a meal worth eating.
I'd love to be the food critic for George: "Companion and I quite enjoyed the pasta primavera straight off the trouser press, but the fish--supposedly fresh from the hotel aquarium--tasted dull with an underarm aftertaste! Only two stars."

Thanks George!! I had fun listening to you on NPR on my way home in my car radio. I couldn't wait to get home to see your video here on Youtube. I love cooking, I love having fun and this was a mix of both, haha.
This video is genius! Just happen to stumble across it, think I'm going to check out some of your other videos and subscribe! Thanks for the cool video! You need a TV show or something! Keep it up!
Brilliant, Mr. Egg. Absolutely brilliant! As for why not eat out, well many is the time we have pulled into a motel too late for the restaurant or even fast food. This gives us an option!
Nice job! My old flat-mates used to cook Super-noodles and boil eggs in the hall's kettles but that was just a sort of bizarre laziness; this is much more inventive and impressive.
Well done George shame about the next guests cuppa though! If you stayed at our place you wouldn't have as much fun, full cooking facilities in every room plus outside BBQ and Paella cooker finca-avellana
As someone who travels a lot for business, this is GENIUS. PURE GENIUS! I can always find a supermarket, but the question is, how can you cook? well - this answers everything :)
I actually used the iron for making toast today. It's all about the 'can do' attitude!
Excellent Mr Egg..(not a review of a Birmingham eatery) but cooking in hotel rooms instead of trying to smoke a spliff without getting a visit from the night porter is such a great thing for a touring comedian to do. Top marks, and YUM YUM !
You're soo bloody clever...AND tasty mate!! And very nifty...I see your days of being in a bedroom band have evolved to hotel room chefing... ;)) BRiLLiaNT!
Ace. Beats the hell out of (and more courteous than) my jugged kipper in a kettle.
