I'm playing the part of John Sorel for the coming fall semester and I wish so badly that you would have been cast in our production! lol We only have one mezzo who can hit those notes with the kind of support that you have, but she was cast as the secretary and we still have yet to find someone to cast as John's mother! We are cursed with high voices at my university... tons of lyric tenors and sopranos, but only a few true basses, mezzos. C'est la vie!
I'm a male mezzo soprano and I have such a love affair with Contralto's...honey this was utterly wonderful and I encourage you to enjoy your uniqueness!
Very well done! I loved your chest voice all through out this piece. It was so nice that I was expecting more on the low F at the end. A wonderful, lovely voice. My only criticism would be to make sure you don't make a straight tone at the end. I could tell you have it in your voice. Keep singing!! B E A U T I F U L !!!
Thank you so much for your comment. As far as the ending goes, it is in my voice and my teacher constantly said the same thing that you said. By the time I got to the end of the piece I had totally forgotten to make sure I kept the vibrato in tact. lol...but thanks for the constructive criticism, I appreciate that as well. I will keep singing though. I was hoping to get a few videos posted by now but oh well. Thank a lot though!

That was beautiful!! My college just did this opera and this was my favorite song of the whole thing. You do it justice very well. Are you really a contralto? That is pretty good for a contralto.

P.S. I kinda liked the straight-tone end... even if it was by accident. It gave the eerie foreshadowing of the babies death.

Yes, In the score I have the part is listed as [the mother] but I have also seen it most as [the grandmother].
