The truth of the matter is simple. The only real issue isn't that its the largest, richest, or has the banks or any of the sports teams, its that the media centres are mostly in Toronto. This means that Toronto gets most the coverage no matter where you go in Canada and outside, so the world pretty much only knows Toronto from Canada. Travel abroad and you'll realize this, which frustrated the rest of Canadians.

I consider myself a true Canadian. I have lived in many cities across this country and I have to say that everyone brings something special to the table. I live in Toronto and I have to say it's a great place to experience art, culture and multiculturalism at its best! Since I have lived in Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal, I can tell you that the only reason there is a stink about Toronto is that everyone's proud of there own city and feel the need to voice it. It's the Canadian way.

People from Ontario, particularly Toronto, are thought to identify with with their national identity over their provincial identity. The same is not as frequently true for the rest of Canada. So believe it or not, Torontonians see themselves as typical Canadians, the same as everyone else in the country. It tends to be the rest of Canada that thinks they are unique in some social or geographical way.

I lived in Toronto for three years. There are some things I love and some things I don't. I've been to cities all over Canada and they seem to have their own personality- Toronto has unique neighborhoods and areas within it but as a whole entity, never seemed to have it's own "heart." It's media doesn't seem as Canadian because it tries too hard to imitate American media and all you get is watered down nothings.

I feel like a foreigner in TO. It's just not a city that most other Canadians can take any pride in. It's full of ethnic ghetto's formed from the idiotic multicultural policy, which is basically politically correct segregation. Montreal kicks TO's ass hands down in every category. Even though French is not my first language, I feel right at home there. If you want to experience a different culture, Montreal blows TO out of the water. I think the reason that so many people dislike Toronto as a whole is that it's like what the US to the rest of Canada; complete unawareness of what's outside the city, firm belief that everything in Toronto is the best, the worst, the most extreme, the biggest, the smallest, it's "world class." It's a pleasant enough place, but it's overwhelmingly bland. I was so excited to move here, but I learned pretty quickly; what a boring city with an unjustifiable arrogance.
