@nellings6 Natural harmonics. Basically put your finger over the fret as opposed to in between them on certain frets and you can get those high pitched rake sounds. Start on the twelfth, seventh and fifth fret. Then start at the pickups, put your hand gently on the strings (don't press down) and pick while you run your hand up and down the neck. You'll hear all kinds of harmonics in there, some you can pick out and use for different things

Quality vid, I didn't know that much about Jeff Loomis before this apart from him being in Nevermore and his solo album Zero Order Phase, but damn I have so much more respect for him now, a Cooley/Loomis collaboration will surely shatter dimensions.

i love how this video has a guy endorsed by schecter and another endorsed by dean. i only have 2 electric guitars, one of them being a schecter and one of them being a dean. i also love how it was meshuggah that inspired jeff to play seven string guitars. meshuggah is probably the most insanely complicated band in music history (rythmically). can't beat those polymeters.
