I don't understand why so many people say Mamoru is a jerk for breaking up with Usagi. Think about it. He's a guy who lost his parents when he was a kid and felt very lonely until he found Usagi. He even says to Usagi "I was all alone waiting for you." in the R movie. She died when she was Serenity and he couldn't protect her. He would do anything to keep her alive this time, even if that could cost their relationship. He used to dream with Serenity every night and he ended up finding her.
@elinaeverbloom So of course he would beleive this new dream. He never told her about the dream but how do you think he felt about telling his girlfriend she was supposed to die soon? Later, Mamoru understood they were both extremly unhappy and they would rather be together facing death than being separated again. He made a mistake, so what? He's supposed to be flawed. He learned from his mistakes and their love grew stronger, which was King Endymion's goal all along.
In the english version I wasn't all that sad about their breack up, but that was different from this version. I mean just the music they use makes this version more dramatic

This scene is so horrible and yet so perfect at the same time.
It's horrible because Mamoru is making the worst decision possible in his attempt of protecting Usagi.
It's perfect because of how the scenario is put together. The animation, the music, the voice acting, the sheer emotion of it all... it makes it, in my opinion, one of the best scenes in all of Sailor Moon.
Just look at the expression on Usagi's face at 1:03 and listen to the music that goes with it... breaks my heart every time.
I was able to keep a straight face until 1:03. It was painful to watch that. That face, that music. Then, I basically broke down completely at 2:05 onward. Wow.
As bad as this sounds, this is how my current ex broke up in a way. I was like Usagi, and he was acting like Mamoru. However, he wasn't doing it to protect me like in the show. God damn it this is making me ball my eyes out
I think the piano in this scene was half the reason I cried when I first saw it. And well, MAMO-CHAN WAS BREAKING UP WITH USAGI!!!!!! WHAT THE HECK???? But it's sweet he leaves his own sanity/happines so Usagi can be safe, and I understand why he did it. If he told Usagi the situation (which he did and what I'm about to say happened), she wouldn't have cared for herself as long as she could be with Mamo-chan.

I don't care whether Sailor Moon is dubbed into English or any other language it's ALWAYS the Japanese that will be the BEST not only because it's the original but the scenes like this one evokes so much emotion not just from the music but from the voice actresses who play these characters. The scene defintely breaks my heart when Usagi is sitting and crying in the phone booth so heartbroken.

I know right, I watched the English verison it is HORRIBLE! I mean the sound of Sailor Moons voice was ughhh! Then i re-watched it in Jap it was wonderful even though you have to read subtitles but it was worth it! :)

@Akareyu i don't think so. the only different versions you can get ifs on youtube, (some people playing it by itselfs), or by yourself, on piano. it's really sad, it's a very wonderful music...

in the manga they didn't break up, so when i saw the episode i was all wtf!? i think my slight hatred for mamoru started here, even if he did it to protect her. she's sailor moon, she is more than capable of protecting herself by now.
