You have a point, but the South would have not prospered if it continued being agricultural that is just a natural thing. Some third world countries are more agricultural and are not as prosperous. Slavery in the South would have died out and this is what it not considered.

Did the New South actually get an independent economy though? Or were they still stuck in the reputation of being a dependent economy?
