  • Too bad it's an automatic.

  • the engine on the 1997-2010 Volkswagen New Beetle/ Volkswagen Beetle (Mexico)/ Volkswagen Bjalla (Iceland) Engine petrol engines: 1.4L I4 16 valve 1.6L I4 1.8L I4 Turbocharged 2.0L I4 2.3L VR5 20 valve 2.5L I5 20 valve 3.2L VR6 24 valve (RSI) diesel engines: 1.9L I4 TDI
  • How much did this sell for?

  • nice

    maycar like this

  • how much r they

  • lol 90hp with such big engine

  • Mine is in the shop. dumb-dumb air conditioner broke. Can't wait to get it. It will be my first car! <3

  • YELLOW ONE!

  • hey...wheres the cream filling?

anybody remember those commercials with the yellow beetle? haha

  • Dayum, the 90hp in US? I expected it to be the 130hp or even the 150hp.

  • @PS2Gameplays The Lotus Elise entry model has 130HP, and can chase a Audi S4 around a track, its all in the weight, not the power!

  • @Josh1223334444 It's a diesel though. They're popular in europe but in the 130BHP configuration. 90HP is really slow.

  • I LOVE MY 2000 TDI BEETLE 47+MPG on the HWY!! screw the hybrid gas garbage.. i mean hell put a tdi hybrid jetta hell it would get like 80+mpg but hell what do i know!

  • @MMMMMDIESEL Exactly!

  • I WANT THIIIIS

  • Punch Buggie No Punch Back Lisencessss !

  • girls car

  • I Farted!

  • the 1998-present VW Beetle is assembled in

    Puebla, Mexico

  • sometimes the bettle a/c stinks

  • is there not a button thingy besides drivers seat toopen the....trunk

  • @impossibleznothing yes there is, its on the door.

  • @cyberboy855 i see..thanks:)

  • i want 1 sooo badly....

  • damn i hope these vw diesel cars don't catch up in the us...they've already ruined the streets in europe with their tractor noises

  • @cypv12 They're quieter than most v8s and v6s...

  • @cypv12 Eventually oil will become too expensive and all internal combustion engines will be diesel. Get used to it.

  • That engine sounds like a go cart but i am assuming it is a realllyyyyy reliable engine.

  • I owned VIN 00001984 the car had the same engine except the transmission was 5 speed great fuel mileage but the overall build quility SUCKED the car spent more time in the shop than with us I will not buy another Volkswagen anytime soon or ever again. The car was a wedding present for my wife from me .What a waste of money

  • i love how these cars sound! my grandparents had 3 of them and i wish they would buy me one.

  • I want this vw new beetle so bad but I am getting a 2011 Honda Fit Sport instead I cant wait (^_^)

  • Well that and a 01 civic has 114 lb torque at 4800rpm. while the 01 jetta tdi has 155 lb torque at 1900 rpms. A lot more kick in these little tdi's. :)

  • Actually if you ever drive one of these tdi's, they have kick to them, way more power than your normal civic or corolla. And a lot more personallity

  • @officalcarguy Because of the low end torque I guess.

  • When are u going to show some 2011 Suzukis, 2011 Chevrolet Avalanches, 2011 Ford Tauruses, and some 2011 or 2010 Ford Taurus SHOs??

  • Bennnnnnnnn

  • I wonder how hard it would be to convert to fry oil?

  • hahaha just 90 horse power what do you want do with this

  • From engineers standpoint, this little TDi engine in the Beetle is far more advanced, useful and interesting than GMs most powerful V8

  • @fastestlapsDOTcom sure. but from a users stand point it becomes a problem when a car struggles to pass a car going 45 mph. 90 hp is a joke.

  • needs GTI-power!

  • I'd be imbarresed to drive that to a diesel pump

  • same engine dave used. 1.9 tdi turbo for his mini van. lol

  • @MrRichierich1990 Not ture. I think Dave uses older 75hp turbodiesel which is not directly injected and hence is not a TDi.

  • Ahh the infamous 1.9 TDI.

I have a 1997 Volkswagen Transporter T4 TD which is the non injection version of this engine, I've tweaked the turbo and I think I'm not too far off the BHP of the TDI. These engines with a good tune are good for a hell of a lot above stock without major upgrades.

  • What a fantastic little car, this is why German cars are so loved.

  • most of the people that bash these cars, forget that despite it's image, it's still a volkswagen, and it drives like one too. it's german through and through.

only 90 horsepower? so what? you could have 200 but that doesnt mean you need it in day-to-day driving.

  • @UserNamei5 Nope.

  • I love diesels and TDis are just wonderful! I have 14 year old 2.5 TDi Audi and it gets more than 50 mpg (US) highway! Amazing efficiency and it's actually fun to drive BECAUSE it's a diesel!

  • OMG I really want one after watching that I wanna know what the honk sounds like I don't know why I guess you could like film the car driving and honking and like what the lights look like when it's dark outside (: I really am eager to know I really want one

  • Yeah baby, lol. Man I love this car.. I love the colors, TDI, only thing I would want different is for it to be a convertible. I know the TDI engine is not powerful, but the durability and fantastic fuel economy is tops. Thank you Kyle.

  • Its just like your grandmother's car! Only her car is better! =D

  • awwww the sound of my childhood , my moms friend worked in a vw dealer in dublin , we spent all our time in the backs of diesel vws and mercs !

  • Hey Kyle,

really enjoyed you doing the brief drive-by clip and interior driving. would you be able to do more of that at all.

  • it sounds like a tractor from a farm.

  • @JeepGCOverland47 Only on idle. Diesels idle on much lover revs than pertrol engines, at about 600 rpm, while petrol engine idle on 1000-1100 rpm. Also, diesels are loud when they're cold, and this is a old fashioned 1.9 TDI "pumpe-duse" diesel engine. New diesels with common rail injection are as smooth as petrol engines and sound better from inside the car in many cases.

  • @derbigpr500 I didn't ask for a car lesson, and last time I checked my petrol engine car idols at 800 not 1000 rpm.

  • Test Drive Please.

  • every time u get into a car makes me think to grand thef auto cuz every time u get on it and turn it on the music comes on like GTA lolz!!!!

  • big enough key?!?!?! lol pile of shit barely started! is that a sony explode deck!?!?! haahha dumb pile of shit. lol i hate beetles, nice seats though...

  • I don't care what you haters say. They need to use this engine instead of the 2.5L i5 that the New Beetle's have right now. Also, does the rear of this car say "Turbo", when this is not a Turbo Beetle?

  • @talldude123

Okay, sounds like you don't know much about diesels. Almost every single diesel has a turbo. Since this is a diesel, it has a turbo. So when the back of the car says turbo..... It ain't lying.

  • @talldude123 yeah, listen to diesel power, his name is diesel power

  • @talldude123 TDI stands for 'Turbocharged Direct Injection'.

  • @gentle285 TURBO DIESEL INJECTION. "TDI"

  • @raulecalderon I thought that also, but look it up on wikipedia.

  • @raulecalderon No , its turbocharched direct injection.

  • my lawnmower has more HP. loll

  • loud

  • 90 horsepower... what..

  • @Corkoth55 Its about torque and Gas Mileage.

  • haha this car got even more feminine when you pulled out the "accessory taillight surrounds"

  • It's crazy this car has been around since 1998 basically unchanged, I read somewhere that they finally have a redesign for it.

  • Not a lot of miles for diesel still has plenty of life left.

But those door panels inside look like a joke.

  • it sounds like a lawn mower haha

  • I love these Volkswagen TDI diesels, my teacher had one a Jetta but than it got into an accident unfortunately. When i grow up i would love to buy one. I love the sound of the turbo and the diesel engine.

  • hey kyle, have you ever seen a 1995 jeep cherokee with leather interior? i was asking because my dad has one and i never saw one like it.

  • a 90 hp diesel engine how?

  • Nope, same exact engine as this bug, they actually have pep. And the room is bad in both i dont really get why my jetta has a back seat it is so small lol. THe jetta gets better mpg i believe but i like all tdi's. P.S. never buy a auto vw, they have the O1M trans, horrible! The 5spd is great.

  • Do you plan to review the Vibe?

  • Sounds great! Diesels FTW!!

  • wow so uhhh.....thats alot of miles for an '01. It's funny you hear that engine from a small car.

  • wait... i thought beetles were rear engined...

  • @Maserati7200 haha no the original beetles were rear engined. All of the New Beetles have front engines

  • Its Going Good.

  • Even with 155 lb/ft of torque I bet this thing SUCKS with 90 ponies under the hood.

  • @lynchburgcsi57 FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!

  • @102Help Okay.

  • @lynchburgcsi57 yay :D

  • @lynchburgcsi57 Since you're American, I assume that you expected this car to have a 5 litre V8?

  • @04smallmj Your insult makes no sense. Since your European, I'll assume you always go around running your mouth.

  • @orbitofdoom16 It wasn't really an insult, it's just that North American cars tend to have big engines...

  • @04smallmj Not anymore, that is if you consider a 1.4 Liter Turbo I4 a big engine.

  • @04smallmj Nah. Just something over 100hp. Heck, my Matrix has a 130hp 4 banger.

  • @lynchburgcsi57 your small displacement petrol 4 banger, even if it has more peak power, willl probablby feel more gutless than turbodiesel with less peak hp. And the fuel economy won't even be close.

  • @fastestlapsDOTcom Well of course it will. I'm only putting down about 130 or so ft/lbs of torque compared to this beetle's 155. That's a noticeable difference. And yes, of course the diesel will get better fuel economy. I'm just saying compared to other newer small coupes, I bet the small amount of horsepower makes it a DOG on the highway. Even my sad little Matrix could probably beat it in a 40-70 accel test.

  • @lynchburgcsi57

You've obviously never driven a diesel before.

  • @TheWarmplate I have. Are you trying to make a point about torque versus horsepower?

  • Ahh! I love my 2001 jetta tdi! averages 50 mpg. Also beetles are not "girls" cars there just small and prefered by cars, but plenty of straight guys have them.

  • @officalcarguy Yeah turbodiesel is reliable and efficient, but I think the jetta has 100 or 110 bhp doesn´t it?, and I also think that these beetles are not good in any, is not small and on the inside the space distribution is awful, in terms of aerodynamics it is just not good, in a few words a car made to look pretty but nothing else...

  • chick car !

  • old ones are WAY BETTER!!!

  • i rather have this than a prius or any hybrid.

  • @Carnut91 me to i cant stand hybrids.

  • is that ur white Hyundai ?

  • womans car

  • 60mpg ftw

  • Great video as always Kyle! My favorite color and it's also a TDI! Schweet!

  • ok.... how the hell is it possible a modern 4 cyl diesel only makes 90hp and 155 ft lbs of tq?

I understand they detuned it cause all car companies do... but good lord...

  • @nflfreak4341 and how many HPs did you expect? It s the usual, although the 1.9 TDI grew to 105 in their last moments, later came 2.0 and now the worst of all of them: 1.6 TDI with "105" hp and less torque. The VW-Audis dielsel engines 4 cyl go to 105-140-170 hp

    I have a Peugeot 406 1.9 TD of 1996 with 90 hp :D

  • @bichoorojo somewhere in the range of 110 i would think at least...90 is piss poor..i fart and create more power than those lil diesels make... but they do get tremendous gas mileage ill give them that... i just like diesels more for the power... but i guess thats why i stick to Powerstrokes and Cummins 12v's... not 4 banger diesels...

  • @nflfreak4341 Good question. My mom's car makes 67hp and it only has a 1.0L petrol engine. The 2.0 golf TDI makes 138hp...

  • Beetle TDI! Sounds VERY economical!

  • why is it always north carolina?

  • @Airr91 He lives in North Carolina I think.

  • Comment removed

  • @Airr91 Because he lives in North Carolina.

  • @Airr91 He lives in North Carolina.

  • @Airr91 cause he lives in North Carolina........... somebody cant connect the dots.....

  • @Airr91 Because he lives in Mexico.

  • @04smallmj LOL

  • Yeah, thanks Kyle. I really appreciate your videos and the effort you put in them.

    This is a good one.

And on a side note, I want to have an old beetle. This thing is just a fancy golf...

  • what is the mpg on this one?

  • Thank you Kyle .

  • wooot.

  • dankit

  • number one
