I loath these people and am not surprised we keep getting into wars with them. This speech, paired with Sam's speech from Lord of the Rings, make me realize that there is still hope. There IS still good in this world, but with each passing day I see it being buried by the constant skirmish for political and socio-economic power. The media manipulates generosity to enhance celebrity. I realize that the only good in this world may be false. But there may still be something left worth fighting for in this existence, and that we will have to exhaust all avenues to attain it.

Chaplain was a genius, not only with his physical comedy, but his political and social commentary as well.

It'll be interesting to see how Sasha Baron Cohen's "Dictator" compares. He's obviously been very influenced by Chaplain's work.

Bollocks it does, I go to a university that encourages foreign students to the point there are 2 white Brit students and 3 Brits of coloured or asian descent among a class of 50 odd. As a white british student, my best friends in the class are the brits, colour irrelevant. This is because of similar culture, values and sense of humour due to a similar upbringing. as long as those factors are the same, I don't even notice what colour someone is after five minutes.

@CioloXXL Sry, didn't actually see the movie, can't tell if the music is from the original film or just added by the poster. Still, most speeches are nothing but manipulation. This one is no different. Except for the fact that it's brilliantly done, but that doesn't really make it more true. This is not man, nor will he ever be this way. Our color is grey - good and bad are stupid attributes, when we are neither - and poetry can't change that. At least not for someone who can think for himself.

@drerror "The Great Dictator", a 1940 movie meant to call out Nazi Germany. If you watch the whole thing, you'll be treated to a scathing parody of it, which even managed to make its way to Hitler's viewing screen.

This scene is towards the end of the movie, where the actor - Charlie Chaplin, a dead ringer for Hitler - made his real thoughts clear. I've heard it without the music of Inception, and regardless of being made shortly after the fall of France still carries great weight.

You can probably find other clips of it here on Youtube, but I doubt that you'll find it in stores simply because of the subject matter. I'll admit, some scenes have been rendered awkward over time, but for the most part it's still a good watch.
