From the looks of it, he's playing almost entirely in harmonics up until the first part of the "mister sandman" theme at the beginning of the Chet Atkins version. If you look at his right hand, he seems to be touching his right forefinger to the string and hitting it with his thumb, so he can get a harmonic on any fret.
