upon listening to this song a fair share of times(lord help me it's catchy)iv'e concluded that it's about an optimistic,hopeless romantic,naive,dreamer.whom instead of denying this,acknowledges and embraces it.he uses the words i'm dying, not in the literal sense but in the metaphoric sense,for he is longing or "dying" for change,perhaps from his home town or a tragic event in his life, like lost love.he knows that the future is inauspicious, yet he hopes his good will, and outlook may help him.

I'd like to add that the boy seems to be very sensitive and emotional, because, although he may succeed, he feels like crying in the end, and thinks that words sometimes can destroy a person more than deeds. He also seems to be spending a lot of time alone, drowned in his thoughts, as he is fully aware of what's happening in the world, about people's acts and actions, and he somehow feels like wanting to escape from all these, because he is really hurting.
