The concensus seems to be that you shouldn't try this because you will still be charged with a crime and, even if you are ultimately found not guilty (unlikely), your defense will be very expensive.

Well the truth is that the law will not change in our favor. In fact it has already been changed against the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. To get a CCW permit you have to be connected. A cop, an officer of the law, or a rich actor or other rich person. Here in Cali, CCW are at the disgression of the country Sheriff. By default they deny all applicants less they are connected as I stated above. Talk about unconstitutional.
@Anothercoilgun ... Not so! Reemember that not long ago, no states allowed concealed carry except Vermont and Alaska which never required a permit. The trend is clear and, although states like California put extremely tight restrictions on concealed carry, about 40 states are now "shall issue" states. As for the Constitution, I don't know what you are referring to but in case you didn't notice it, the D.C. case went in our favor. I know of no changes to the Constitution.

Sure, anti-gun laws have and are being passed but concealed carry has spread across the country in the past 20 years. The Washington D.C. case was a win for 2nd Amendment supporters and the Chicago case looks promising and will probably be an even bigger win. In fact, it may strike down the state and local laws that you must be referring to.

Rather than resign yourself to failure in the midst of such successes, the best thing you can do is keep writing your representatives and make donations to The Second Amendment Foundation and the Illinois Rifle Assoc. They are fighting Chicago in the Supreme Court and that decision will affect the entire country and shoot down some of your silly CA laws. It will affect us all.

No offense to those who live in Illinois, but last summer while driving through on my way to fish in Minnesota I had to lock up my handguns in my luggage while traveling through your state. That really sucked! Had to stop to eat and when I was getting ready to leave there were a several of seedy characters hanging around my truck. Really felt like I wanted my S&W in my pocket. Nothing happened but its not good to feel defenseless. Next time I will avoid traveling through your state.

@clconig I know what you mean! I live in Northern Illinois and there are no places to shoot except a few indoor ranges and very expensive and exclusive gun clubs. There is no place where you can simply enjoy plinking legally on public property. The state harasses any gun related businesses and, in fact, one gun manufacturer recently moved to Iowa because of that. Of course, jobs were lost and nobody is any safer.

I recall an incident in Illinois recently while I was traveling to Minnesota and going though Illinois. I packed my S&W 9mm M&P in its case and put it in my luggage because of the IL laws. I would never had done that in KY, but at a fast food restautant at 11pm I parked, eat, and upon leaving there were several surley characters loitering near my truck. I felt very uneasy knowing I was not armed. Fortunately, it was nothing but with no CCW it was not a good feeling.
The worst part about this is Illinois and cook county (chicago)allow some people to have concealed carry. Like Judges and certain alderman can as well. so what this law really says is certain people in the city can protect themselves just not the citizens.
Organise and flood your representatives' offices with letters and phone calls. Promise recall petitions if they don't revoke stupid laws that keep you from defending yourself. You'd be surprised how quickly they recant inane positions in order to keep their jobs...
Its not the legal carriers of firearms they need to worry about. It is all the criminals who carry regardless of the law. I have my CCDW because I don't want it to be the criminals that are the only ones armed.
YOu are so right! I was robbed at gunpoint by a man who could care less about gun laws. The business I worked for decided it was smart to put a no weapons sign on the front door. Like the bad guy will walk up and say to himself no guns alowed guess I have to go somewhere else. I now have a CCW permit and carry everywhere. We also hit our panic button and the alarm company called back after the detectives were on the scene.
I was approached in a rest area late one night and made it to my truck and was able to pull away quickly before they got very close. I now have my CCDW. I don't want it to be the criminals that are the only ones that are armed.
Good for you! Refuse to be a victim and fight back! Dont forget to practice practice practice! It is also a good idea to have a good pepper spray with you. Get a larger mk3 or mk4 police size can. The little key ring units dont have enough spray to stop multiple attackers. SOme of the best brands are Sabre Red, First Defense and Fox Labs.
This is ridiculous. It sounds like the people who write the laws in Illinois are freakig idiots. Why can't some people understand that everyone has a right to feel safe in this country and that you are your own first and best line of defense. This video is misleading because states like MD, NJ, CA etc allow concealed carry BUT IT IS NOT recognized as a basic human right, they are "MAY ISSUE" states so you could be an outstanding citizen with NO record but still get turned down because the issuers did not believe you had a "reasonable reason" to carry.
ONLY "shall issue" states recognize the right to carry, not "may issue" states.

Granted 10 of the 48 states with concealed carry are more restrictive than the others, but in certain areas of California it is actually quite easy to obtain a concealed carry license. In NJ it's who you know. That's the difference in "may issue" and "shall issue".

The worst part about this is Illinois and cook county (chicago)allow some people to have concealed carry. Like Judges and certain alderman can as well. so what this law really says is certain people in the city can protect themselves just not the citizens.

Organise and flood your representatives' offices with letters and phone calls. Promise recall petitions if they don't revoke stupid laws that keep you from defending yourself. You'd be surprised how quickly they recant inane positions in order to keep their jobs...

Its not the legal carriers of firearms they need to worry about. It is all the criminals who carry regardless of the law. I have my CCDW because I don't want it to be the criminals that are the only ones armed.

Me and my friends were held up in an alley at gunpoint here in Chicago a few years ago. We literally had the gun pointed at us.

YOu are so right! I was robbed at gunpoint by a man who could care less about gun laws. The business I worked for decided it was smart to put a no weapons sign on the front door. Like the bad guy will walk up and say to himself no guns alowed guess I have to go somewhere else. I now have a CCW permit and carry everywhere. We also hit our panic button and the alarm company called back after the detectives were on the scene.

I was approached in a rest area late one night and made it to my truck and was able to pull away quickly before they got very close. I now have my CCDW. I don't want it to be the criminals that are the only ones that are armed.

Good for you! Refuse to be a victim and fight back! Dont forget to practice practice practice! It is also a good idea to have a good pepper spray with you. Get a larger mk3 or mk4 police size can. The little key ring units dont have enough spray to stop multiple attackers. SOme of the best brands are Sabre Red, First Defense and Fox Labs.

This is ridiculous. It sounds like the people who write the laws in Illinois are freakig idiots. Why can't some people understand that everyone has a right to feel safe in this country and that you are your own first and best line of defense. This video is misleading because states like MD, NJ, CA etc allow concealed carry BUT IT IS NOT recognized as a basic human right, they are "MAY ISSUE" states so you could be an outstanding citizen with NO record but still get turned down because the issuers did not believe you had a "reasonable reason" to carry.
ONLY "shall issue" states recognize the right to carry, not "may issue" states.

and they make it sound like they just let you carry a concealed pistol. the fact is that you have a mandatory 12 hr class with an NRA Certified Instructor, as well as being scrutinized on gun safety and handling.
concealed and carry should be allowed every where, as long as the guide lines of training have been met.

Keep in mind, since a comb, nail file, and popsicle stick are weapons in IL, they may become banned on an airplane soon! ;) Maybe if you drink enough lemon juice daily, the acidity from the barf will burn the eyes of the attacker and allow you to get away.

Granted 10 of the 48 states with concealed carry are more restrictive than the others, but in certain areas of California it is actually quite easy to obtain a concealed carry license. In NJ it's who you know. That's the difference in "may issue" and "shall issue".
